Ok so second part of deu yapfest. If you havenât read the first post you should, thereâs a reason that this is a follow up. Thereâs a ton of context and things Iâll refrence from that post. Sorry if some of this seems incoherent or doesnât flow very well, this was written across multiple days
Disclaimer: this post is HEAVY on my interpretation of Wyll as a character. Thereâs also major spoilers for S3 as a whole, and discussion of S2 lost media as no vods had been saved from that time period.
Wyll is a big fat fucking liar. End of rant!
No okay so Wyll is a major liar and I think everyone knows that. And if you donât? Well now you do, that guy lies a lot. But most of his lies I can see is really centered around lying to himself. Though I donât think Wyll as a character would agree with that take.
The reason I claim that most of his lies center around lying to himself is because of season 2. Season 2 Wyll was⊠using his own words âpatheticâ and in my terms? Desperate.
A lot of his character is centered around being seen by other people as someone worth respecting. And that respect on bliss is normally gained by power or some kind of control.
Itâs why I mentioned in the first part of this analysis I mentioned the fact he failed at a monopoly. A monoply is a clear cut sign of control over something, and control of something in mass means control over what leaves and enters. Essentially making the one at the top the sole power of the product
Which that shoots both of the ways to gain ârespectâ on bliss at the time. However his fail from this attempt being the first of many, was the domino that caused a spiral in his mind.
Wyll had a weird obsession with Mugm during s2. It was focused on the fact Mugm was someone to be feared because of how strong he was. So for awhile Wyll idolized him or I guess mave not idolized.
I donât think Wyll has any âidolsâ but it was more of a want to catch up. A feeling of inferiority to Mugm despite being one of the people who gave Mugm most of his material power.
All of this inferiority stemming from something he couldnât be made his egomaniac behaviors worse. Wyll has the perfect inflection and tone of the worst. person. alive. The milisecond you do something that he thinks itâs dumb he makes an entire argument against you just about it. He was like a twitter stan with how much he focused on shit. And the worst part is heâs stanning himself
Those egomaniac behaviors were born from inferiority. Not being able to get respect from strangers really messed him up, he wanted to be feared so bad but he just wasnât someone to be scared of. I mean the second Mugm pointed a sword at him and told him to drop the netherite pants he folded.
I think another good point to make is why he betrayed Mugm is a more lore focused view then content. He betrayed Mugm because he realized Mugm wasnât gonna give him anything, especially after âlyingâ to him about his knowledge of the gold gem.
And he felt he was entitled so some portion of power. Mainly because of his own insecurities driving a desire for power. And when he betrayed Mugm he became the thing he wanted all along. Someone with power, respect, and basically all of the success that he was aiming for this entire time.
So you would expect him to be satisfied with it right? I mean he himself said he was satisfied when he banned himself off the server. But no! This guy canât help but hold grudges until he fucking dies!
I mean I donât exactly blame him, but the second he sees Mugm in s3 he starts his petty strike once again. I actually find it really funny because I myself really like the cyborg/android interpretation of Wyll. Because for cyborgs/androids you donât really think that a man struggle with them is just how human they are. But for Wyll he is so disgustingly human!
The reason I say heâs so disgustingly human is because early s3 he had NO HONOR. And im saying that as a long time fan, he was not only a coward who led to his team loosing fights. As well as a coward that continually fought with very large alliances and switching sides often.
During Dragon Games is really the most obvious of these dishonorable things. Agreeing to an alliance with Brotherhood and at the same time also helping SAD. Which like, yeah do whatever you need to do to win the egg. But this alliance swapping, fighting in large teams are things that we see in most recent bliss that Wyll speaks lowly of.
Which is intresting to me, because really the moment we see this change of thinking. From wanting to prove himself to the entire server that he deserved to hold the mace, to calling them cowards. Is that first 5v1 when he lost his mace, it was genuinely humbling in my view.
Not to mention that same day, after the Mugm alliance talk on the desert village when saving kae from being gembroken. Is really one of the first and what I view as a pivotal moment of how he views the people close to him.
I know that he already viewed kae and napa as less because they werenât as helpful or active. But that fight when he kept muting to talk about kae was such a clear moment on how he views and judges those around him when it comes to how helpful they are to him. Wyll holds both comfortability and functionality in teammates.
It does make me laugh a little whenever Wyll speaks on his dislike for other players. No matter who heâs talking about if its Kae, Q, Dolphin, Storm, or even Nezo. Iâve noticed he subtly projects onto them in a way, whenever he talks aboit how disappointed he is in Q or Kae for not doing their own thing.
Itâs almost like heâs projecting an image of his younger self not doing his own thing and instead surrounding everything he did around his server members view of him. Or if he ever says how cowardly Nezo is for how he percieved brotherhood and acted on that, depsite the fact he did something of a similar level both in s2 and in s3. Or how much of a coward and foo Dol9 is for fighting in large groups despite him doing their same thing earlier on the season.
I will say is that I know he doesnât regret his actions. Espically in season 2, without his selfish behaviors in season two he wouldnât be one of the strongest players in this season. And he acknowledges this fact also in his conversation with kantje.
But if not the hypocrisy of how he thinks, the irony of him thinking that way because of the lack of care is funny to me. And the topic of lack of care brings me to the next thing about Wyll that has caught my attention!
Wyll has stopped caring about what the server thinks of him. A direct opposition of what his s2 and early s3 mindset was, and sometime after being told about the wire fragments and manifestation he stopped caring. With the only opinion he cares about is what Mugm thinks
Actually I think it was probably closer to the formation of TE that he stopped caring. I say that because during the same day that Wyll was told about Manifestation during Trial 2.1, his one on one talk with Q that we donât have full access to (PLEASE RELEASE THAT TALK I NEEEEED IT TO BE IN A VIDEO). Wyll claimed that Q said something along the lines of him âbecoming a weaponâ
And he had a direct reaction to that in the moment when the first TE fight happened. When he killed Q with his mace and he said âwant to see how much of a weapon I can be?â⊠that. That was really the last time I remember something getting to Wyll. Like truly actually affecting him, now I donât think he like lost sleep over the weapon comment. But it definitely did affect him in some kind of way. But after that? After that fight? I really canât think of anything.
The election during Honored One really showed his lack of care. Normally, s2 and early s3 Wyll wouldve worried way more. Worried about how the server thought of him, that if he didnât get enough votes he wasnât worthy and that kind of Wyll would flip worth in his head so much heâd loose its meaning. But during Honored One as a whole Wyll himself said that he didnât care if he was seen as a âMugm Minionâ because the Honored One was something that Mugm cared about. And he did it FOR Mugm not for himself
Or that Puqi conversation he had when building the mesa LE base. When Puqi called Wyll out for his lies and schemes, and brings up season two. Wyll just outright tells Puqi, âI donât have to care about their opinionsâ
Like. I guess thatâs what weâre doing now??? Which I also think this ENTIRE thing, the hypocritical actions from fighting on a large team to complaining about it to even the sudden changing of not needing validation. Is it hypocritical or is it growth?
This last section is very VERY inspired by what Nemvevo said on bliss today (June 29th) when Nem said that he has no respect for Wyll, because heâs a hypocrite and actually pretty much says exactly what I said about his talent of fighting with large teams to win respect. But is it hypocritical for Wyll to despise Horizon or Solar Flare for the large team against four, or is it growth?
Wyll admitted himself that heâs never taken on a large outnumbered fight until he got the mace. And even then most of them were 2v1s against him, until the Horizon 5v1 that costed him his mace. And thatâs when he really got to feel how it was on the other side of things. And also really when he started to look down on the server as a whole, calling Horizon specifically cowards multiple times.
Honestly in my eyes itâs more growth then him being a hypocrite. He got a taste of his own medicine, got to experience what it was like to be on the receiving end of unfair fights. And his view on being on large teams against someone like Mugm changed DRASTICALLY because of that. So I think the argument about his âhypocriticalâ view point being more on growth is extremely valid here.
Not to mention the fact Wyll doesnât care anymore on how the server views him. Maybe early s3 Wyll wouldâve had a part of him doubt himself, maybe even hate the situation. If he heard majority of the server thought of him as a fraud. But because he doesnât care about those views anymore long winded conversations about his choices and opinions now rarely happen. With the kantje interview being really the last long conversation about his ideals and choices on the server.
So apart of me says he shot himself in the foot with not caring. That the apathy he feels about others opinions excluding Mugm only pepturate the views against him. And I guess sure, the fact he doesnât care does make the opinions against him worse. Because he doesnât. care. at all really doesnât matter if he âshot himself in the footâ because as long as Mugm is alright with whatever Wyll is doing heâs satisfied.
But that also goes back into one of the first things I mentioned about placing Mugm on some form of pedestal to idolize. But also not idolization? He holds Mugms views higher than a normal teammate would normally, but itâs not like heâs afraid to push back against something Mugm says because he disagrees.
And Wyll probably really appreciates the fact he can disagree knowing the two will actually have a discussion. Not one or the other immediately folding when whatever point they say gets shut down by the other. I donât want this to turn into a pure entropy side plot so Iâll keep most of my words about the two of them for another rant another day.
All together Wyll is both extremely contradictory to himself but also solid in his beliefs. Itâs such a weird mix of the two itâs really hard to explain to someone who hasnât watched his growth overtime. Having the growing apathy of his character is so different to what he was when he first joined.
I mean heâs now so bored heâs purposly nerfing himself by making a binding vow to just have fun. When in s2 the only time he ânerfedâ himself was at finale, when he let his exploits get taken away knowing s2!Mugm lost his exploits as well for one final fight. But he did that knowing no matter the outcome he was going to be seen as some kind of âheroâ because of him going against s2!Mugm.
The circumstances I feel are too different to compare really. I mean one moment was him knowing he made his goal, got respect, made Mugm run from a duel, and also was feared at the same time. While the other moment is him being so bored that heâs winning he feels he lost his spark. Which I donât want anyone to think Iâm saying thatâs unreasonable.
Him loosing some form of spark overtime is reasonable. Itâs what happens when your one single overarching goal surrounded the entire servers gaze on you, and then you slowly just stop caring about it. Itâs also not like Wyll attacks unprovoked, he normally waits until someone attacks him or something close to him. Or specifically asked by an ally or team member to attack first. I mean even really with Solar Flare he never really has attacked any one of them without being provoked or asked in recent times.
I feel like Iâm talking myself in circles and I donât wanna make this toooooo long I cut off peoples attention spans. So Iâll go ahead and cut myself off here, but Iâm open to any discussions. Feel free to openly disagree, agree, make a comment, or ask questions in my asks ^^
