This was a silly doodle that got way out of hand. Anyway, I see fan labor call it Monotoli Building outside that specific point of the game and it bothers me more than it should. I get not knowing "Enrich Flavor" since he's a minor, easily missed NPC (though I prefer otherwise), but I thought it was obvious that all those assets were NOT Monotoli's to begin with!

Totally random idea but what if Monotoli is, well, whatever Giygas/Giegue is? They are both spindly and gray, after all.

Maybe, instead of being brainwashed into being a pawn, he is pretty much a part of Giygas's army to begin with, albeit in a more diplomatic role. Though maybe not willingly, as I like to personally think at least some of Giygas's forces are blackmailed, but in canon he folds quickly.

Since he as originally a real estate agent in canon, he could probably do something like that here on a galactic scale. Earth has quite a few nice places that alien travelers could make their home. Too bad Giygas's plan devolved into destroying everything rather than just take over.

He passes himself of as a totally normal businessman, passing off as a sort of overnight success and someone who works in the shadows-- his canon self already is like that as is anyway. He would make use of mind control, and by developing his own cult of personality, would subjugate the Foursidians en masse. No Mani Mani statue needed.

However, he is still not much of a fighter. He's got decent psychic prowess by the virtue being an alien, but he mostly relies on the basics like telepathy and levitation. Ness and co. probably would end up being much stronger than him.

After Giygas's defeat, he pretty much sticks around on Earth since the place actually grew on him, willing to turn on a new leaf like in canon. Not sure about the logistics of how he's able to become a normal civilian of Earth for real, though.

Carpainter with chronic illness, anyone? Based of the mother 2 novel's depiction of him. I'm not really into the novel but that part caught my eye (it sounded like a good explanation for why he's... like that)

I needle felted (normal type) Silvally! Admittedly, it may look a little bit off, but that's because I'm still learning (and at least I learned a lot through this).

Lately I've been getting into needle felting. This is my second attempt at it (first being from a cheap kit)

The proportions are little wonky, but I'm proud of how this came out! (Hopefully the crappy phone quality doesn't detract from it)

Here's my attempt at creating a Tony paper clay model! I've done what I can to make it look as legit and accurate to his design as possible (I still need to work on rendering it though, maybe I'll redo it to make it as accurate to the actual clay models as possible).

I used the artwork from the Mother 2 Secret Treasure Box Guidebook. Scans of that have been floating around recently, and it seems like a good yet overlooked resource to consider for the game's NPC designs besides sprites considering all the characters did not get clay models (with Tony sadly being one of them). Analysis and design considerations below the cut:

So, here's Tony's 2d artwork from the aforementioned guide:

First of all, Tony is apparently a chonky boy. He is not outright drawn as fat like Porky or Apple Kid, but he still looks rather wide. This whole time everyone drew him with the same build as Jeff when in actuality, he is rather stout in comparison! I assume he is more discretely chubby, like Ness is implied to be.

And then, there is his eyes. He's got pie shaped eyes like Paula and other female characters (which I guess are these sparkly eyes). In fact, as far as I could tell, he's the only male with these kind of eyes. I guess they needed to give Tony some kind of feminine features. Though between the eyes and his proportions, it seems like he's meant to have this childish and innocent look in contrast to Jeff.

Finally, there's the uniform, which is the biggest design discrepancy. It looks like he has no blazer, but looking closely, it looks like they simply forgot to color it in! There's outlines for it, but it looks like he has suspenders at a first glance. With that in mind, it becomes much closer to the sprite, though there's still some differences like the color of the uniform and the shoes.

In spite of that, I still think the guidebook scans are pretty reliable when it comes to the character designs in general, since the characters that do clay models tend to be rather close to the design in the artwork from there (if any thing, it's the sprites that seem to be less accurate).
