A theory about Eren and why no one will inherit his titans
Eren’s reasoning and behaviour have been the subject of many discussions lately.
One of the main things that has been bugging me since chapter 100 was: Why did Eren attack Willy Tybur in the middle of his speech? With the entire world as a witness? Why provoke the world to attack Paradis?
Nine chapters later the question remains: Why does Eren act like this? What happened? What made him do this?
The SC, the Paradisians, they all had plans…
…but somehow Eren didn’t see those feasible. Why? And why did he come up with his own plans?
He certainly doesn’t look happywith the outcome of the recent events:
or does he? Is it the look of someone who’s dissatisfied or the look of someone who sees his plans interrupted?
Let me explain why: Eren has the Founding and the Attack Titan.
The current plans for Paradise span a period of 50 years. But I think Eren somehow…
…found out they’re no use, because whoever inherits his titans, it won’t be him.
And all those plans will fail because he’s the only one who CAN do it – whatever “it” is. There’s no one else.
For this mindset, we have to remember who Eren’s mentor has been over the past years. The one he learned so much from. Whom he’s always looked up to (not literally, of course).
I think Eren is in the same state of mind currently.
Eren hasn’t gone crazy, despite everyone thinking this and severely doubting his sanity. He’s playing the lunatic, because, who else?
There’s no doubt he still cares a lot about his friends. Something like that won’t change within two months.
But I’m quite sure Yelena has given him a message from Zeke which shook his world.
And I think in which direction we have to look for the contents of this message.
The current opinion in Paradis is that Eren has to touch Zeke in order to activate the Coordinate and cause the Rumbling.
Yes, Eren was able to control the other titans when he touched Dina’s titan, but she was a mindless titan. Despite Armin’s words, no one knows what happens if the non-royal Coordinate touches a royal shifter. Lots of readers have doubts, thinking Zeke, with all his zekerets, certainly knows something he hasn’t shared with anyone yet.
The general fear (in both Paradis and the fandom) is that he will either eat Eren and acquire the Coordinate (which imho doesn’t make sense because he’ll be bound to Fritz’ vow), or, more likely, that he will be able to activate the Coordinate and control the Wall Titans while touching Eren, instead of Eren controlling them.
However much I’d like to see a storyline of the Yaeger brothers banging their heads over the power/control of the Coordinate, I think there’s a third option.
The very reason why Eren decided to go to Marley on his own and get Zeke asap out of there.
We all know Zeke has about 6 months to go before the Curse kicks in.
Everyone thought that wouldn’t really be a problem, just let Historia eat him, problem solved.
But what if it’s not just Eren who is necessary for the ultimate plan, but Zeke as well? Not just “the Founding/Attack” + “Royalty” but specifically “Eren” + “Zeke”?
Because they’re brothers.
And we know blood relatives have an advantage in the case of shifters. At least we know this works when inheriting one, but what if shifter-brothers work together? I think it’s likely.
My wild theory in this post is that if Zeke and Eren work together, the powers of the Coordinate will be able to be used entirely. As if a Royal shifter owned the Founding titan. But without the vow. Those two brothers will be able to bypass Fritz’ vow.
No other combination of Founding/Attack + Beast will be able to do so.
For the origins of this theory we have to go back to Eren Kruger.
The words he spoke can be seen in a different light if we assume he was working with the former Beast titan. What if Zeke inheriting the Beast was part of the big plan. Kruger made clear how important it was for Grisha to obtain the Founding Titan…
– mind you, this took place after learning his brother was in the possession of the Coordinate.
Kruger also emphasised the importance for Grisha to start a family.
Why would that be important? Except for the reason I just gave? I don’t think Kruger was worried about Grisha’s personal wellbeing when he said that.
Two shifters, one of royal blood and the other possessing the Founding Titan, this was the big plan all along, and that’s what all these sacrifices were for.
TL;DR: Because they’re brothers and thus blood-related, only Zeke and Eren (and none of their successors) will be able to fully use the powers of the Founding titan and bypass King Fritz’ vow.
(P.S. This doesn’t make me suddenly trust Zeke, of course! Let’s just hope Eren is sensible enough not to either.)
