20. Sometimes when I watch television I ask myself, “Is that brown man a terrorist? What about that one? And that one, is he?” The first man is Wayne Brady. Obviously. The second is Aziz Ansari. The third is my President. I do not know the answers to my questions.

Anaïs!!!
Finally saw her for the first time last night. She performed at McCabe's - my new favorite place in LA. Truly outstanding.
(This video is from an unrelated show from July, I've just been watching it on loop for about an hour so I thought I would share!)
We don’t read and write poetry because it’s cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for. To quote from Whitman, “O me! O life!… of the questions of these recurring; of the endless trains of the faithless… of cities filled with the foolish; what good amid these, O me, O life?” Answer: that you are here; that life exists, and identity; that the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse; that the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse. What will your verse be?

I can not say enough words about how wonderfully talented Peter Hochstelder is. A personal favorite. Peter has a new album coming out and needs a little help - ONTO THE KICKSTARTER! If you have not heard Peter’s music - please please do check it out. I assure you you will not regret it (link below)

I believe in very few things blindly: wifi, coconut water, notebooks, gray nail-polish, all things Japanese… but most importantly, I believe in supporting musicians (especially the good ones) so please join me in supporting Peter. The music alone will make you happy you did!
THIS MUSIC VIDEO IS EVERYTHING.
Three months ago, I moved to California on a cross country train where I had steak dinner with a man who happened to run a folk concert series on vintage train cars. Yesterday, I rode 13 hours down the coast with said folk/train enthusiasts. Life is really remarkable sometimes.
Read up on this amazing series, Roots on the Rails. One day when we're all fancy and a little older(/richer), we're doing this :)

If New York had voice mail I would leave it insane messages day and night. I would tell it how much I love and miss it. The energy. The culture. The Jamaican meat pies.

I'm totally aware that I'm far too sentimental about things - especially things I have no part in and have never seen but:
217 Griswold St in Detroit is being shut down and this is a beautiful article about how shitty that is. In an age where all our favorite DIY art spaces are being shut down everywhere - here is another story to add to the list. Pour one out for the artists of Detroit Rock City.

What made the beauty of the moon - and the beauty of the sea? Did that beauty make you? Did that beauty make me? Will it make me something? Will I be something? Am I something? And the answer comes Already am. Always was. And I still have time to be.
