People really out here angry at Michonne because she wants out from under the CRM. She can't follow orders. She was smirking when Thorne was talking. She's messing up Rick's plan to keep her safe. She's putting everyone they love in jeopardy. Blah blah blah. Rick, god love him, has not explained to Michonne why he can't leave. Has not explained that Jadis took him; that they had a deal. That their family is under such a serious threat.

Remember, Michonne didn't just traipse up there and fuck up everyone's plans. Rick's the one who put the gun to Michonne's head and made her go along with the subterfuge. Michonne just wants her family back together. Now she has to stand around and listen to some woman she doesn't know calling Rick her family. Has to see Jadis there looking fucking smug and then have Rick tell her they're broken and over? After he insinuated that Michonne didn't love him? And people are angry at Michonne? I am not even surprised by any of this. Michonne deserves to fuck shit up. She deserves the whole world.

Also, do not walk close to walls. It will be easier for someone so walk past you and push you against it or corner you.

If your gut is telling you to cross the street or change your path, do it. Don’t risk it. Your body knows.

If you can, buy a large umbrella and walk holding it. Studies say that predators are less likely to attempt an attack on someone that could fight back. Keys around your knuckles is fine but you’ll need to get very close to do damage. Umbrellas are more precise.

Avoid wearing headphones if you are alone on an empty street. Look aware.

Again: Stay. Away. From. Walls.

Entering an uber alone? Call your father (or anyone you trust) and say “hey dad! Yep, I’m almost there, I’m sending you the route.” outloud. Then proceed to send them the route so they can follow the uber drive. This will most likely intimidate the predator.

If you see someone in an uncomfortable or possibly dangerous situation, walk up to them and say “Betty, oh my god, I haven’t seen you in so long!”. If she gets slightly confused, you can whisper and let her know you’re trying to help and that she should follow along. Walk together to another station or away from where you are. The man will most likely not follow. I have done this one 2 times and can be very helpful.

If you are unsure she needs help, you can pass her a note saying something like “hey, I noticed this man beside you is making you uncomfortable. If you’d like help, fake a sneeze right now and I will come up to you and pretend we are friends.” This is a long note, but its an example. Be discrete. If she follows along, proceed with the previous tip. This is helpful when you’re in a crowded train and you notice harassment.

Help your sisters. Trust them. Trust yourself. Be safe.

I’m so tired of every show that takes place in the past (wild west, medieval, pirates etc) ALWAYS having so much sexual violence towards women like writers can cry “oh it’s realism” all you want but it’s very transparent how realism only applies when you want to hurt women on screen. If we’re talking staying realistic, why doesn’t everyone have brown teeth? Or bad skin? Or dying of dysentery? Just admit y'all want an excuse to brutalize women on screen lol

This pisses me off so much. A lot of the time if you mention realism would also involve women having unshaved legs or pits, or bushy eyebrows, or syphilis, the answer is often “well that’s gross, no one wants to read about/see that” and like…. If you think that women being ugly is grotesque, but brutal depictions of rape aren’t, then I don’t really know what to say to you other than stay the fuck away from me.

More people need to engage this topic with nuanced, intelligent conversation. Yes, rape, brutality, and sexual assault are sad, depraved parts of life. But, this does not mean that every show and/or movie needs to depict gratuitous rape scenes, especially ones that are framed by arousal and titillation. This, to me, also fits into the larger narrative of the desensitization of our culture, insofar as every medium, even video games, have become overtly graphic, violent, brutal. Such acts can be implied you know?! It was done in classic cinema. The viewer did not NEED to see every nook and cranny, thrust, and moan to understand what had taken place. Guess I'll just be over here watching my Disney movies.
