Holy Fucking Shit (as Father John Misty would say). Osheaga is done. Things wrapped up one week ago, after an intense weekend of music at Parc Jean Drapeau. As I jumped from artist to artist, danced from setlist to setlist and barely took a break, I jotted down my feelings and thoughts on each performance. Here goes:
Friday, July 31 -
Shakey Graves - First Shivers
Guster - Emotional Nostalgia
Stars - 10 Year Anniversary
Avett Brothers - Dynamic Duo (...more like a Septet)
Of Monsters and Men - Kick Drums
Florence + The Machine - Angel Messiah +
Saturday, August 1 -
Seoul - Short, but Sweet and Glisteny
Slow Magic - Waited 4 U +
St. Vincent - Mad Dark Funk Rock Angel
Milky Chance - Raspy Voice
Alvvays - Coastal Beaches and Sun *
Nas - Solid +
Interpol - Rain Dancing +
Patrick Watson - Smooth Orchestral Drama
Weezer - Mainstream Rock
Kendrick Lamar - Grand Performance ... Wrong Crowd
Sunday, August 2 -
Glass Animals - Sexual +
Gary Clark Jr. - Soulful Slide Guitar *+
Father John Misty - Genuine Dancing Preacher Man *
Future Islands - Fucking Raw Growling Anger
Toro y Moi - Funky Fro Bopper
Broods - Hot Kiwis
Banks - Magical Swagger
* I watched the performance alone (I really enjoyed a new look on solo viewings)
+ I did not see the full performance
Two fun stories coming up!
I met Ryan Miller from Guster. How? He walked right in front of me as I was watching the last act of the night (Florence + The Machine). I flipped out. I was so excited to see their show earlier that day and to top it off, he walks right in front of me. I shook his hand, took a picture with him and gave him a hug. I honestly don’t even remember if the hug was consensual, but its fine cause I was star-struck and he seemed pretty appreciative of my excitement.
I also met the keyboardist from Seoul. Earlier on the Saturday of the festival, I watched their show and I was very impressed. Later on, he walks right by me as he was going deeper into the Kendrick Lamar pit of death. I tapped him, shook his hand and told him how great of a show he had had. He seemed decently shell-shocked that someone recognized him!
July 17, 2015. Tame Impala released Currents. Ratatat released Magnifique. Say no more. Well actually, I’ll say a little bit more ;)
I had been waiting for these albums for quite some time. These are both different acts with completely different directions. Kevin Parker’s funky, psychedelic pop of a masterpiece in Currents can be listened to from start to finish and you’d never get bored of it. And yes, you can even dance to it. Ratatat kills it with catchy and lyric-less tunes that can be listened to when you’re down for some funky background noise. All in all, I’m really happy with both these albums and I urge you to take a listen. Enjoy!
Favourite tracks -
Currents: The Less I Know The Better, Love Paranoia, Let It Happen, Nangs
Magnifique: Nightclub Amnesia, Magnifique, Cold Fingers, Pricks of Brightness
This is why I love Mac DeMarco
SOME OTHER ONES by Mac DeMarco
My first ever post was about MADE IN HEIGHTS. I got a decent amount of views and that was pretty cool for me. I associate their music with the beginnings of my “blogging” adventures.
They released a new album a couple of months ago and I’ve been steadily listening to their stuff, without ever being disappointed! They’ve got this somewhat eerie style, but with a poppy edge. If you like Purity Ring’s witch house beats, you’ll like this too. Click on the picture of their album cover and listen to their stuff on Bandcamp.
Favourite tracks: Pop It in 2, Cry, Ghosts, Drexler
Hello internet.
Remember that really cool music blog, AC Pastiche? Well I don’t. Cause I haven’t posted for a whole year. Whoa, its been a while.
Well people, I’m back. But I have a different approach this time. Its going to be more fun for me and for you. I’ve decided to get on this Tumblr-train because of how easy it is to use and it looks pretty too. Also, cool new thing I’m going to start doing - not only will I post a little bit about music, but I’m also going to post my own photos that I take! Wuuuuuuut. They will somehow relate to music, but not always.
Here’s a little sampler to get you started. This was taken in Prince Edward County during a beautiful sunset. I for sure had ODESZA playing in my head. So click on the picture, sit back, relax and imagine being behind my camera.
