how did the cat distribution system give you Dot and Dash?
They were neighborhood strays. They didn't spend much time around the other shelters, probably because we were the only ones feeding them. @thinking-machine found them hiding in our entryway during a storm and got them to come inside, and they've been happy to be indoor cats ever since. :-)

My partner and I woke up this morning to a very weird noise from downstairs. It was way too early for most of the kids to be up and around in the station.

Meg called and asked to hang out and I had to tell her no because I'm SICK and Signal won't let me leave the house until my energy regulation is back to normal. 😿
This is ridiculous. I'm not a beta program! And they're being all fussy like I'm a sick kid. I'm older than the program they were in charge of!
(Meg is bringing over snacks. Well, coordinating a dropoff location, since it's not a good idea for her to know where the broadcast station is. But the point is, my friends are the best.)
"Fussy" is not synonymous with "making sure you don't die of lack of energy or overclocking". Not even close.
I can do fussy overprotective caretaker program like nobody's business, but then you'd really be miserable. ;-)

Lots of warm food getting passed around the last few cycles. A few new faces in the shelter, too. Getting too cold for a lot of the kids out here, they need somewhere with heat.
Well, we've got room for them. And when we run out of beds, we've got the sofas. And after that, we still have plenty of blankets to make nests. We're not turning anyone away tonight for lack of room.
It's like my User always said -- the world's too damn cold to be anything but kind.
It's funny, because that's all I really remember about him. Don't remember his name. I guess I probably look like him. But I know that above anything else -- if he knew I was here on this system, and what I was spending my time doing -- he would tell me to be kind. To build out of hope.
I'd like to think that he'd be proud of what all of us are building together here. It feels right. Feels like home.

We pulled everything we could from the station's garden a couple of cycles ago, before the snow hit. Two whole cycles of cutting and jarring vegetables. And today, we finally got to start cooking with them.
The newest programs staying with us are from Tron City; liquid energy is more efficient to distribute out there. They've never had anything else.
There is nothing better than introducing a city kid to the concept of "soup".
