So, I don't know where else to post this, so here it is.

I know that there is a lot of craziness happening in the USA right now. I've heard that there is a problem with corruption and police brutality. And I see that there is talk of POC being targeted more than others. I can't know this for certain for two reasons: 1)I'm not a POC, and 2) I don't trust sensationalist news reports, so I don't know what is true. But I've heard it, and I'm sure it's affecting people.

So now, since there have been protests and threats of violence in my town, I suddenly have this new fear. I have social anxiety as it is. I have this underlying fear every day that any one I interact with could attack me out of nowhere. I don't know why but I do.

As a woman, I also have this fear. I avoid going places on my own for fear of being victimized.

And now, I had this thought "what if I'm randomly victimized for being white? What if someone out there sees the color of my skin and assumes things about me and responds with violence?" And a second later it hit me. Holy. Shit. Is that how POC feel all the time? That's fucked up.

And I will note, there's not a racist bone in my body. One of my roommates is black and he's an awesome dude. My cousins on my dad's side are Hispanic, and Phillipino. My cousins on my mom's side are also Hispanic. My great grandma was Sioux. My cousins wife is black. To me, POC were always family. So, I never understood how someone's skin color made people treat them differently.

I still don't understand it. And I can probably never truly understand how it feels to be discriminated against like that. But I think now I get it.

I don't know what to do with this knowledge, but I've got it.

We should really talk more about how, in the purest moment of Reylo balance in TLJ, Ben Solo told a wayward Rey that she wasn’t alone. 

Kylo  f u c k i n g  Ren just sat there and quietly listened to Rey’s account of her cave ordeal. He didn’t tell her she was silly for going there. He didn’t shame her or tell her she shouldn’t have expected to find so much in the first place. He didn’t gloat that he was the first person she wanted to talk too.

He sat quiet and unassuming on his little perch.

He actively listened to her experience.

And then at the end of it all, when she was finished describing why she felt alone, he assured her that she wasn’t.

Because despite being stars and lightyears across the galaxy, Ben was there with Rey when she needed him. To listen to her, talk to her, and touch her. For that brief moment, everything was perfect. And the Force thought so too.
