COSTUMES

Several different eras in regards to costuming

George is in blue, whereas all of the other actors are in warm colors, emphasizing the difference between George and everyone else

Wigs worn for the Shakespearean era

Cute button up dresses for the women during “Private Lives”, as well as dramatic hats to symbolize the time era of the 30′s

Lighting

Huge emphasis on spotlights since George is the main character of the play, yet he is the most unprepared (the spotlights will highlight all of the emotions that are being portrayed throughout the scenes)

Visualization of isolation and feeling lost when George is alone on stage, and the majority of spotlights in the play are put on him

Stage lights completely shutting out as the scene changes

Symbolizes the confusion and abruptness that George feels throughout each change

Sounds

Loud cymbal crashes, organ riffs, or base drum hits to symbolize the dramatic moments of the play

(I.E) when the executioner appears on stage and when George dies, a loud bass drum can be hit or the organ can start to play a dramatic piece

Makeup

Heavy stage makeup, like classic kind of stage makeup, but emphasized.

Whiter face makeup is an emphasis for the scenes where Hamlet is performed

Red cheeks for the women’s makeup

Theater Type

Stage set up where half of the set is like a proscenium theater, but the “backstage” is visible so that the audience is able to see the commotion that occurs behind the scenes of the play and can understand how the director struggled to guide George into his role.

George is dressed in a different color from the rest to emphasize him sticking out of the crowd

Blue vs warm tones

Central Idea

Central idea of the play is that you must make the best out of whatever situation you are thrown in, no matter if you feel like you are the only one struggling, and to allow yourself to be vulnerable if the task is difficult

we plan on showing this in the production by having George progressively become more skilled with how to respond, but then he eventually explains everything to the audience (the situation is quite evident at that point)

Central Image

Spotlights

The thing that separates George from the rest of the cast is the spotlight. Not only that, the spotlight shines down on all of George’s flaws as an actor.

Audience Reaction

This show is meant to be light-hearted, fun, and relatable, as most everybody has been in a situation where they were completely clueless as to how to proceed. Everyone who watches this will leave with laughter on their minds!

Henry did not know what was going on throughout the entire production, but that does not stop him from responding professionally to George’s lines!

The peacemaker, Ellen Tary!

Less grand than Sarah, is calm throughout the entire process and ad libs a lot more efficiently than Sarah does.

The man himself, George Spelvin.

Main character who is an accountant, and has no idea what’s going on during the entire script and finds himself backstage by chance!

Has to take over for for an actor that was severely injured before the play, and George has no previous experience in acting

George is back stage confused, as he ended up on set for a play that he was not even cast in...

All the actors in the play act very confused and frustrated that “George” doesn’t know his lines.

Later on in the performance, George realizes that there is an execution scene in the play that seems very realistic, and suddenly fears that he may actually get killed

George says his final lines, and the actor who plays the executor chops his head off; the play comes to a close and the audience is very skeptical..

It’s every actor’s NIGHTMARE performance, showed on stage.
