Okay so I have been reading D&D lore after seeing some TikTok’s by @heir.to.icarus mentioned Tharizdun. I’m still wondering about that Documentary and if they will pull a Wes Kraven Freddie Krueger but I’m too sceptical to get my hopes up.
Tharizdun is the god of Eternal Darkness, Decay, Entropy, Malign Knowledge, Insanity, and Cold
Tharizdun is described in as a pitch-black, roiling, amorphous form. As the Dark God, he is described as an incorporeal wraithform, black and faceless.
This is the Shadow Beast. Stranger Things. Idk, looks pretty incorporeal to me. Also likes it cold, literally the only scene of note Dr. Kay had in ST5. If I remember correctly, Dustin proposed it was the Mind Flayer. This always confused me because a Mind Flayer is usually wizard squidward, but I got over it because ST loosely uses D&D lore and Mind Flayer is an iconic D&D monster used in other areas of pop culteure too. Enter the Gungeon comes to mind.
But Dustin has been shown to be wrong sometimes right? He got the exotic matter thing wrong when they went to the Lab in the Upside Down so the precedent is there. So what if they are not fighting a Mind Flayer?
Let’s go back to Tharizdun. He is the god of Eternal darkness. Although imprisoned, Tharizdun still has a degree of his original multiverse-threatening power: in third edition, he has Divine Rank 11 (out of 20)
Does this remind you of the void? Even Max found Els mind strange, she commented on it. Max spent a lot of time in Vecna’s mind yet this is seems off to her. The visual parallels have me gooped.
He is connected to the Abyss in D&D lore also.
Tharizdun symbol is a spiral, and much like we are SPIRALING right now
What if in a meta narrative way they want us to continue spiralling to give more power to Tharizdun? Like a egregore of sorts. Also spirals are referenced through the show on Els clothing in season 3, and Robin with someone maybe Dustin I fucking forget lol with the spiral of rocks?
Anyway, I thought it was a super interesting theory.
