Full Name: Gideon Arnold Prewett
Age: 23
Affiliation: Order of the Phoenix
Occupation: Non steady
Former House: Gryffindor
Blood Status: Pureblood
They say this boy wouldnât know what he wanted if it hit him like a bludger to the head; his days at Hogwarts would leave him with mediocre N.E.W.Ts and a report that he simply âlacked directionâ â and how could it be any other way? Growing up he is caught between his brotherâs academic excellence and his sisterâs unparalleled heart and spirit. They have the means to go far in life, he hears them assured constantly, but all he has is this mettle in his blood, this youthful passion which, free of purpose, finds outlets everywhere it shouldnât for the better part of his life.
Arnold is his middle name, but rearrange this enough and employ a certain level of creativity and it could almost spell ârecklessâ. Thereâs no other word to best describe the activities he chooses to take part in. His childhood is a haze of laughter, pranks, playful brawls, and, when visited by their more traditional pureblood relatives, less playful brawls. He loses track of which cuts and bruises are down to his folly and which are down to his bravery. Equal parts the fool and the knight, he jokes as a default but springs into action when he hears something which makes his blood boil. Itâs no surprise to anyone when Gideon and Fabian are sorted into Gryffindor.
The world needs jesters in times of trouble, and heâs happy to allocate himself to this role. The Prophet brings news tainted with death; entire muggle families gone missing, pureblood ones with blood on their hands. Inside he steels himself for a war, but outside he mocks Harold Minchumâs poorly kempt facial hair. He knows it isnât his place to be deep and insightful, so he allows himself to be thought of as an airheaded delinquent who doesnât care â it stops people from expecting too much of him. When heâs sent to McGonagallâs office in third year for getting into a fistfight with a boy in their Charms lesson, he tells her itâs because he took his wand, and not because heâd heard him call one of their classmates a âmudbloodâ under his breath.
For years he canât decide if he hates learning of he just hates classes; heâs kept after lesson every other day due to misconduct, but he passes all of his O.W.Ls. His professors suspect that he had Fabian take them for him, but the truth is that for all his ineloquence and lack of interest in schoolwork, heâs not an idiot. Heâs capable of practising spells most his age didnât even know existed â but he does so only for the sake of pranks; context labels him as a troublemaker rather than a skilled practitioner. Thereâs something in this label which satisfies his lackadaisical, directionless nature, so he does make trouble. He plays around with potions, and spells, and pretty girls â sometimes pretty boys. He plays Quidditch and goes out for beater specifically because itâs aggression and itâs senselessness and these are instinctual. Many are convinced that all he knows how to do is play around.
By the time heâs in his seventh year two facts are abundantly clear: that he wants to make a difference in the world, and that he has no idea how. He has this passion in him but no use for it; Fabian could be anything he wanted to be with his talents, and Molly was already a brilliant mother, but Gideon couldnât see himself raising a family, he couldnât see himself excelling in any field in particular, and he couldnât see himself settling for an office job at the Ministry, either. At his best heâs base instincts and action free from fear of consequence; it doesnât take long for him to realise he would be more than willing to die for something he believed in.
They join the Order almost immediately after leaving Hogwarts, and many people assume that itâs Fabianâs idea, because he has always been so responsible, so righteous, but every decision they make they make together; it is Gideon who muses one day in a low murmur âhow do you think weâll go? â I reckon itâll be with a bangâ.
â charming, selfless, brave
â troublemaker, hot-tempered, inconsistent
A recollection of comments mysteriously heard by the one and only Rita Skeeter. Said to be true, but not necessarily. Â
⸠Not even their own sister can tell those twins apart! Thatâs freaky!Â
⸠He has stolen Fabianâs homework and pretended to be him many times before, yes. Itâs said Professor McGonagall only fell for that once.Â
⸠Gryffindorâs very own party boy anyone would say. He gives The Marauders a run for their money.Â
