just saw someone say mickey brings out the worst in ian. do ppl just watch shameless with their eyes closed? if they actually watched the whole show, we are shown that ian is clearly an unhinged south side mf without mickey just as much as he is with mickey (like ian is a gallagher, they are all unhinged mfs). the real difference when ian is with mickey (because he’s settled, happy and in love), is he wants to start thinking of the future more! in fact i think mickey brings out the best of ian as ian is most like himself with mickey!

i recommend blocking people lol at the end of the day no matter how weird that take is there's something miserable about sitting through 11 seasons of a show hating the only relationship that starts in s1 and becomes endgame. like damn how do you even suffer through s10 and s11 if you don't even like one of main brightspots of that post-fiona era. like imagine watching the gallavich wedding episode and getting no joy out of it. like eating food and not being able to taste it. rip.

I want 2 hear the Mickey/Fiona thoughts

ok so first of all.

secondly, they are mirrors of each otherrrr the same way the milkoviches are like the evil scary not-so-fun house mirror of the gallaghers. mom gone, persistent horrible dad, constantly fighting to survive, and we see what happens because the milkoviches don’t have A Fiona. mickey is actually the closest to a ‘fiona’ within the milkovich family; where fiona became defecto parent because she’s the oldest, mickey is designated the one ‘in charge’ even if he isn’t the eldest by displaying his capability and loyalty to family. THEIR SHARED LOYALTY, and that’s their downfall in a way…they stay so loyal to their life that they have a hard time breaking free of what keeps them down because they feel like they need to maintain a sense of devotion to it! mickey has a fierce loyalty to ‘family’ and we see that who he deems family isn’t necessarily someone who fits the typical definition. ian becomes his family because he becomes important to mickey/someone worth protecting. this is where i might lose some people, but i do believe that mickey was terry’s favorite child. that doesn’t nullify his horrid abuse towards mickey obviously, but terry saw potential in him. why do you think mickey thought he’d be king of the southside…someone promised him that. similarly to frank…fiona was his favorite. terry swallowing (some. a small amount of) his pride to give mickey a backhanded compliment about him being a ‘half-decent son’ measured against franks backhanded thanks to fiona for ‘helping out’ when she finally leaves…things happened on television. 

both mickey and fiona shoot down options of ‘betterment’ in favor of familiarity, and although mickey does ‘get out’ when he crosses the border, he is actually more inline with terry than he’s been since prior to season 4—it’s heavily implied mickey uses terry’s cartel contacts/the milkovich connections to orient himself in mexico, and he’s not free because he’s not with ian! he’s fighting to survive, he’s on the run! fiona shoots down jimmy’s offers of getting her out, and routinely self-sabotages even attempts at betterment she does want. they both ‘get out’—fiona choosing herself and her freedom by leaving, and mickey choosing his freedom within ian. 

and with ian…..ohhh their simultaneous treatment of ian….412 into s5 i was literally yaying watching them try to wrestle the other out of the role of Ian Carer. they are like when a cat sees itself in the mirror and flips the fuck out except they are both the cat and the mirror. they both want the best for ian and to take care of him to the best of their abilities and fiona has seemingly the best position having experience with monica in the past, but mickey’s complete lack of knowledge gives him an edge because he’ll never play comparison games with ian because he has nothing to compare him to. and i don’t even think they hate each other actually. i don’t think they can ever form a solid opinion of each other because that would mean forming a definitive opinion on the whole of themselves
