I tell my daughter she is kind first I say it to remind her that kindness is a virtue she should not lose I tell her that she is smart second I say it so she can infuse her being with knowledge, knowledge is power and women rarely have power I tell my daughter she is funny third I say it so she’ll spend her days laughing, daughters of immigrants rarely laugh I tell her that she is beautiful fourth, I say that last because I want her to know that her beauty is real but not as important as all the bits and pieces that make up her being. Her beauty is real but I want her to know it’s not for the consumption of others. Her beauty is raw but I want her to know that there will be days she will not see that. And on the days she doesn’t see her beauty I hope she remembers: she is kind she is smart she is funny & that kind of beauty is everlasting.

The slogan became popular after the death of Croatian Partisan Stjepan Filipović. As the rope was put around his neck on 22 May 1942, Filipović defiantly thrust his hands out and denounced the Germans and their Axis allies as murderers, shouting “Death to fascism, freedom to the people!”.

Water Protectors face continuing assault by militarized police

January 16th, 2017, Water Protectors in prayer walk were confronted by North Dakota police at Standing Rock.

A Water protector was allegedly hit by police on a snowmobile, sent to the hospital, while militarized police pepper sprayed, tear gassed, and shot rubber bullets at water protectors.
