Unironically, watching Hermitcraft has like, changed my perception of age for the better? Like, my friend was jokingly calling a 32yo a “dilf” and I was like “that’s so young???” (I don’t really care how old the hermits are but in my mind I’ve viewed mid/late-thirties as the median). I think it’s really reassuring that the hermits can be married, have kids, and still work full time as a professional YouTuber and pour so much passion in a video game and it works. The hermits have a chillness which I suppose is associated with more life experience (since a lot of other CCs are younger than the HC group). Sometimes I’ll sit here like “man I haven’t accomplished anything in life :(“, then I’ll remember I’m not even 20, and a lot of the people I watch switched to full time quite recently, which means they were like 30/40ish when they did so. Obviously I know life doesn’t stop at 30 or 40 or 50 or whatever, but sometimes when I spiral and think everyone else my age is accomplishing so much, it’s nice to be following CCs that break me out of it by simply existing.

You put my thoughts into words!! Exactly, they're just a group of "normal people" with reasonable but varied lives, yet they mesh together so well. A lot of them have worked in other professions before, I guess Cleo's example of being a teacher is the most famous, but Cleo quit teaching for YouTube, and it's just... normal progression. It's normal to switch jobs if you wish, even if you're well-established in your career or whatever already. And I keep on thinking about how Grian studied biology in uni, yet what he's doing now is completely unrelated to his degree. I think culture nowadays is like "Ohh your uni degree has to be related to your future work!! It's super important!!", but the hermits have an astonishing variety of degrees (Cub doing astrophysics? Gem getting a degree in Medical Laboratory Technologists? Geologist Cleo moment?), and even with their wide variety of hobbies/ degrees, they end up hanging out on the same Minecraft server.

I'm not exactly sure what jobs the hermits did, but I think Tango used to work in game development, and that translates over to his intricate minigames in HC. I think Ren or Impulse used to work in a radio station or something, which is why they have that charismatic announcer voice which works so well in their content. False used to do graphic design commissions, and her art skills translates over to being a fantastic builder. So even if you stop doing your old job, you can retain your skills and use them in a different, yet productive way.

Some hermits are married and don't have kids, some are married and have kids, some aren't married and have kids, some aren't married and don't have kids, some are single, and it's all so casually presented. It's okay to live in a way you're most comfortable with. Over the years, some hermits have shared their experiences of losing something / someone, and it's all so... normal. It's normal to lose pets, relatives, or go through bad break ups, or get burnt out. It's also normal to get married, have kids, move into a new house, visit family living in other countries, and so on. And you can do all that while working reasonably in a happy, healthy environment. Like not to get too parasocial, but it's nice to see normal, presumably middle class adults just... living. Especially for the younger crowd, or people in their earlier twenties who don't really know what they're doing.
