Max Verstappen will always be Toto Wolff's white whale, and it's reasonably clear that he sees Kimi as his shot at redemption for that mistake. Which, let's be clear, that's a lot of pressure on Kimi, and I'm a bit afraid to see what happens if/when he fails to live up to the expectations.

That said, if it continues to seem likely that Max is going to trigger the clause in his contract to terminate early, Red Bull has the opportunity to do something Very Funny. They don't even have to actually try to lure George away. They can just do what they tried to do to McLaren with Oscar earlier in the season and merely hint that they'd love to have George in that seat. Imagine the chaos! And it's targeted directly at Toto Wolff in one of the most devious ways possible.

To be quite clear, I don't think George and Red Bull would be a fit for each other, and I wouldn't wish that on him. But just imagine for a moment: Kimi falls off this season, Lewis gets his 8th WDC, and George moves to Red Bull to fill Max's now-vacant seat. Red Bull becomes resurgent after the engine regulation adjustment in 2027, and Toto Wolff is once again faced with Red Bull capitalizing on his error in judgement as George wins his first WDC with Red Bull.

Even I would root for Red Bull under those circumstances.
