F1 Academy Graduates: Where Are They Now?

a small rant below :)

i think the topic of whether f1a is successful or not is such a nuanced topic because you can argue that it isn't doing enough to actually help women progress through the single-seater ladder and towards f1 (abbi is the only one in this list that is still racing single seater and shes in gb3)

it realistically only gives them a platform and visibility they didnt have before and that's not inherently a bad thing, the visibility, the exposure, the opportunities and the fact that young girls can actually look at a female driver and see themselves in motorsport are all incredibly important. but visibility only gets you so far.

it also makes you question if the teams genuinely care about their f1a driver cause most of them are dropped as soon as they graduate/leave especially now with maya's situation; did ferrari ever care? did they ever see her a driver they wanted to develop long term or did they just sign her so they dont get a bad rep? and mind you maya finished 2025 in 2nd and she cant get funding, imagine the situation for rest of them

right now f1a isnt functioning as a ladder but just a platform. and it risks becoming the highest level women are expected to reach rather than the place that helps them reach higher levels in single seaters.

a lot of them came into f1a and left unchanged, a lot of them went back to where they were before. and thats not necessarily a bad thing because there is absolutely nothing wrong with going into rallying or endurance racing or any other discipline. f1 isnt the pinnacle of racing and these women can have incredibly successful careers outside of single seaters.

but it becomes a problem a lot them came into f1a with the dream of making it into f1 (or just to move up single seater in general). f1a can be a good thing and still not be enough.

There have been 30 past F1 Academy drivers who aren't in the grid anymore, including wildcard drivers.

Only one of them is still with the team who supported them.

The rest of these talented young girls were dropped and now have stepped back from racing, struggling financially or have moved on to different categories.

This isn't F1A's fault.

It's the teams who fumble every single time and cannot recognize talent if it's a woman.

Hiii San, oh yeah the hunter AU, I really enjoyed imagining all their relationships in an entirely different context that would still feel very reflective of all their relationships. Also a slight weakness for supernatural here and there.

There's actually been another installment that I have been rotating in my head on and off for a while but it would be like reflecting Lewis leaving and maybe George struggling with his relationships and then a loss and an orpheus/eurydice-esque storyline but then we know how that ends but we also know how supernatural refuses to let that happen.

Not only do you get the chance to win the Lando Norris LEGO helmet, you can also yell about your dislikes about the season and broadcast issues.

Formula 1 does seem to be treating their fans as though they’re a bit stupid this season, and I’m kind of sick of it. So yeah. Write some paragraphs about it!

“So,” George plopped his chin down on Lewis’ shoulder with a gentle thud, still keeping his gaze on Lewis’ phone screen. “The weather.” He narrowed his eyes slightly with the smallest of pouts. In the time it had taken for George to get up from the sofa and go to the kitchen to put the kettle on and make them both a brew, Lewis must have decided what he was going to add to the takeaway order.

“It’s gonna rain tomorrow morning, I might have to do my morning run a bit later.”

“Ah,” George’s mouth twitched into an amused smile. “Whatever are you going to do with your lie in.” His words came out far more suggestive than he intended, causing Lewis to turn his head to look at George with a scrunched brow.

“I was gonna do some yoga instead man” Lewis huffed, their faces were so close together that George felt the small puff of air brush against his skin. “You are terrible.” He frowned, flicking his eyes across George’s smirking face.

“Shameful really.” George quietly tutted, a miniscule hint of playfulness in his voice.

“Completely.” Lewis murmured. He set his phone down beside him on the sofa, and reached his free hand round to brush the tips of his fingers along George’s jaw as he closed the miniscule distance between them with a soft brushing of their lips.

The two mugs sat steaming on the kitchen counter were probably ready to get the tea bags taken out of them, but George happily chose to forget about them as he tenderly kissed Lewis back. He let his hand closest to Lewis curl around the soft, loose fabric nestled around his bicep as he parted his lips to let out the smallest noise of satisfaction as Lewis kept their kiss going. Not letting it get out of control, just letting them have a moment as a few drops of rain started to hit the window of Lewis’ penthouse apartment while their lips continued to meld together.

When they finally parted George blinked slowly while Lewis hummed and brushed the tips of their noses together. Their mouths twitched into lazy smiles and George gave Lewis one more peck on the lips before finally getting up from the sofa in the hope their cups of tea were still at a drinkable temperature.

Hiii Lesi and OMG YES in sickness and in health (it's Alex's fault) was another fic that was just a blast to write, sick George babbling away and crying about wearing hospital clothes in front of Lewis 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️ also I lowkey got to get over my miserable time having appendicitis myself, like it was cathartic to write even several years later (George had a much easier time getting diagnosed tho, I am not that cruel)
