“That is a very fair point.”

“We can destroy what we have written, but we cannot unwrite it.”  he shrugged as he quoted A Clockwork Orange. “You have decent taste in books.”

“There’s nothing better than getting so captivated in a book that you get the chance to escape reality.”

“Tell me the titles of some of your favorite books?”

“The Great Gatsby, To Kill A Mockingbird, Pride and Prejudice, The Catcher in the Rye, Lolita and A Clockwork Orange are to name a few.”

Elliot pondered her offer for a moment, while he couldn’t deny he loved books, he wasn’t exactly sure if he would be visiting France after the war. “Possibly.” he couldn’t commit to anything unless he knew for sure.  “So, what’s your favorite book?”

“I couldn’t possibly choose just one. I have too many favourites.”

“and i’m not talking about it with you either!” cléménce scoffed. “you’re my baby sister. you’re not allowed to talk to me about sex until we’re like forty.”

“You’re being so ridiculous” she huffed, crossing her arms over her chest. “You’re not that much older than me” she reminded. “I just want a few tips about a certain kink.”

“It’s truly a thrilling book about how acquire and maintain political power.” he couldn’t help but feel giddy as he explained the book even though she didn’t ask him to. “You’re welcome.”

Adelaide nodded at his words. It wasn’t her usual choice of genre but she was willing to try it, she may be surprised by it after all. “You should come check out my library sometime, it has a vast collection.”

Seeing his friend finally pick up the bottle, the Swede grinned, nodding his head approvingly. “That’s the spirit! I didn’t think the French could handle more than wine, impressive.”

“You should know better than to underestimate me” she replied.

“Yeah, I guess i’d put it in my top five favorite books.”he could spend hours discussing his list of favorite books, but he figured he’d let her read it first. “I don’t mind. And I have no doubt it will be in safe hands.”

“Oh? I’m sure this will make for a great read then” she replied. “Thank you.”

“you need what?” cléménce sputtered, her knife and fork clattering upon the table. “no absolutely not. you’re like twelve adelaide, no, no sex.” cléménce affirmed wide-eyed and incredulous at her word. “god look what you did.” she frowned at her slowly cooling chicken cordon bleu. “i can’t eat anymore, you’ve ruined it for me.”

Adelaide huffed at her sister and her over-dramatic behavior. “Please, Clem” she pleaded as she moved to sit across from her. “I can’t talk about this with Seb, he’d have me joining a Nunnery or something.”

“And I think you should stop telling me what to do. ” The prince grinned, putting the glass to his lips and taking a deep sip. “Maybe you’re the one that needs a drink more than me. Have some fun. Live a little.”

Adelaide playfully rolled her eyes at her friend but plucked the bottle from his desk and took a swig. “I’ll have you know I’m plenty of fun” she retorted.

“ oh, young grasshopper. i am not sure that you’re in the RIGHT place. ” the brunette cocked her head to the side as she looked at the french princess, simply furrowing her brows. surely she wasn’t inexperienced, yet if she was truly the right person to give advice was questionable. “ask away. ”

Adelaide shuffled her weight from one foot to the other, feeling embarrassed at the situation. “I just want some tips on how to be more dominant” she admitted, running a hand through her hair.

❝ impressive. that’s a lot of alcohol for such a tiny girl. ❞ dominic paused, a glint in his eye. ❝ actually, i gotta see this for myself. i have a bottle of tequila with your name on it. throw in a couple of limes and some salt while we’re at it. make it a real party. ❞

“Well if there’s one thing I know how to do, it’s to hold my liquor” she retorted as she lifted her shoulders up into a shrug. Her eyes lit up at the mention of tequila. “Well I guess we should party then.”

“I’ve already read it several times beforehand.” he explained with a soft smile.  “I’ll be happy to loan it to you right now, if you’d like?”

“Is it a favourite of yours then?” she asked. “If you really don’t mind me borrowing it, that would be great” she said smiling up at him. “I promise it’ll be in safe hands.”

“Understandable.” Elliot was guilty of constantly getting lost in his thoughts. “The Prince by Machiavelli.” a book he had read several times beforehand, he had a habit of re-reading the same books over and over again. “Have you read it?”

“Can’t say I’ve read it” she replied after a few moments. “Maybe I can borrow it after you’ve finished with it?” she inquired.
