stream of consciousness is a playlist that reflects upon my current feelings. this is not an attempt at digging in my vault & putting people on to different genres & artists. it is a cathartic exercise. i am going to try to do these one sunday per month. this edition is my groovy set. it features songs from Toro Y Moi, The Internet, Thundercat, and Frank Ocean. i hope that u enjoy!

on yeezus and polarization
with the leak of yeezus, many "fans" found themselves harshly criticizing it, declaring it "trash", "his worst work ever", and "weak".
but why?
the sounds that west brought to the forefront with this album, being those of origin in chicago drill, acid house, and industrial rock clashed in a beautifully harsh way with the hip hop stylings naturally packaged with west. most "fans" of west became fans around the release of graduation, when the long reign at the top of hip hop by 50 cent ended, and the torch was passed to west. 50's fading was not all that lent itself to that, west also employed a more pop centric sound on graduation both through sonics and lyrics. and up unto yeezus that is the formula he has stuck with, and the one most of these "fans" are comfortable with. for them to become acclimated with the stripped down sound of yeezus, would be a difficult task, and thus has resulted in their disapproval.
on the other hand, there are the fans of west from college dropout and prior, who are a bit more understanding of the eclecticism west displays in his work, and like the album.
this album is polarizing not primarily for the sound, because it is a sound that has already been done, but more so because of the youth and ignorance of most of the people who listen to west.
