My latest Adon Olam in memory of that amazing Bassist and Monkee, Peter Tork!
Cantor Azi Schwartz (Park Avenue Synagogue) sings Adon Olam to the tune of 'You'll Be Back' (Hamilton) by Lin-Manuel Miranda. Zoe Cosgrove's Bat Mitzvah, Oct...
Coolest Cantor EVER!
So here it is. My first post in three years follows a week of uncertainty and diviciveness that ended with the passing of one of my favorite poets, Leonard Cohen. In his memory I recorded this in a register that seemed appropriate. Yehi Zichro’ Baruch. May his memory be for a blessing and may the many lessons contained within his countless works endure and inspire for many generations to come.
I seldom preach! As a teacher, I find that my students all engage with my lessons through experiencing and playing our music. Lectures and frontal teaching cause us to tune out. BUT, I need to share an organization with you all. It is called playing for change and it seeks to unite our disparate cultures, religions, races, and beliefs through music. Please check it and all of their YouTube videos out. I find this to be a group worthy of my support and hope you will too. Shabbat Shalom, "The Music Guy"
Chag Sameach, Everyone. I know it's been a while since the last post but I'm hoping to ramp up recording over the next few weeks. Right now (where I am, anyway), the modern state of Israel has just turned 65. Let's reflect on the tumult and triumph that we remember and celebrate each year. I wish everyone a year filled with Shalom, Peace, meaning, and happiness. We're all a cappella this week, too. Enjoy and DL it here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/17454787/Adon%20Olam/Sharm%20El%20Sheikh.mp3

Who doesn't like a good march? I mean, really, who? I find J. P. Sousa a bit much but my 3rd graders love to march around. Not as much as my Kindergarteners but that's a story of pedagogy for another day. Enjoy! Here's your link: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/17454787/Adon%20Olam/instrument%20march.mp3

Hi Everyone! I've missed you all but I'm BACK! All I can say is I hope your Purim is Happy, Fun, and SAFE! Cheers! Your dl link: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/17454787/Adon%20Olam/Ani%20Purim%20-%20Adon%20Olam.mp3
Chag Purim Sameach,
The Music Guy
This week we have a very quick Tu B'shvat themed Adon Olam. Tu B'Shvat is one of my favorite holidays of the Jewish calendar! I teach my students that it is a great day to pick ONE SMALL CHANGE that they can make to make our world just a little better place. Maybe they will pick up 5 pieces of trash a day or create recycling bins. All it takes is many people making small, incremental, changes. Download it here: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/17454787/Adon%20Olam/Hashkeidiya.mp3
Shabbat Shalom and Chag Sameach,
Amichai "The Music Guy"
Hi Everyone,
I haven't forgotten you! The studio I use to record all my songs is in pieces at the moment as I had to dismantle it for a school play. BUT, I managed to put together a smaller mobile setup that I used for this week's Adon Olam. If you've never heard a real gospel choir, stop whatever you are doing and make plans for a random Sunday. Find a church with a gospel choir (I went to the Beulah Land Church of God in Christ in Cranston, RI) and let the emotion of the choir AND the congregation wash over you. It's something else, believe me. There are many shabbatot that I wish we could get some of my fellow Jews to loosen up and FEEL and experience the prayers the way this African American Baptist congregation did.
Today we commemorate what would have been the 84th birthday of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (I know his ACTUAL birthday was last week). In tribute to a man devoted to serving others as well as a great preacher taken before his time, I give you this week's Adon Olam. See You Next Week,
Amichai "The Music Guy"
My students have been BEGGING me to do this melody for months! I promised them that it would be the first Adon Olam for 2013. So, with NO apologies to Ms. Carly Rae, here is my Kittah Daled and here is your DL link: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/17454787/Adon%20Olam/Call%20Me%20Maybe.mp3
Shabbat Shalom!
The Music Guy
We'll folks, we've just finished another year. Here is the poem that inspired this Adon Olam written by the Scottish poet, Robert Burns:
Auld Lang Syne by Robert Burns Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and never brought to mind? Should auld acquaintance be forgot and days of auld lang syne?
For auld lang syne, my dear, For auld lang syne, We'll take a cup o' kindness yet for auld lang syne
We twa hae run aboot the braes, and pou'd the gowans fine; we've wander'd mony a weary foot sin' auld lang syne
We two hae paidled i' the burn, frae mornin' sun till dine; But seas between us braid hae roar'd sin' auld lang syne
And here's a hand, my trusty friend, and gie's a hand o' thine; We'll take a cup o' kindness yet for auld lang syne
Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and never brought to mind? Should auld acquaintance be forgot and days of auld lang syne?
For auld lang syne, my dear, for auld lang syne, We'll take a cup o' kindness yet for auld lang syne

Well, it’s Dec. 21st and the world is still here. I’m okay with that, it’s just …I don’t know … kinda dark. So since today is the shortest day of the year I felt inspired to record this Adon Olam. Download and Enjoy! https://dl.dropbox.com/u/17454787/Adon%20Olam/Ain%27t%20No%20Sunshine.mp3

We're almost done with Chanukkah but we at the Solomon Schechter School of Westchester L.S. had to have one last hurrah! Here is how we ended our Chanukkah/Kabbalat Shabbat/Rosh Chodesh extravaganza this morning. Grab the download here: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/17454787/Adon%20Olam/Dreidel%20Adon%20Olam.mp3

I haven't posted an a cappella track in a while, SO, in honor of that most commercial of holidays, enjoy! I try not to use this post for any non-Adon Olam purposes but I just wanted everyone to be aware of an initiative of the Jewish Education Project called "Share the Light - Give One Night." Here's a link to the facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/GiveOneNight After listening to my Chanukah tribute, consider putting aside one of the eight nights of Chanukah to help others in need. Here is the weekly DL link: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/17454787/Adon%20Olam/Maoz%20Tzur.mp3 Have a Chag Urim Sameach, a Happy Festival of Lights.

Remember Kindergarten? I sure don't! What I DO know is that my current Kindergarteners, like every Kindergarten class I've ever taught, are some of the least inhibited, most excited and best singers EVER! I recorded this Adon Olam on a CD of weekday t'filot I made for them. This is BY FAR their favorite melody! Enjoy and download here: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/17454787/Adon%20Olam/Kindergarten%20Adon%20Olam.mp3

I am a BIG fan of Thanksgiving. I mean, what's not to love? Family, Friends, Turkey? Love 'em all! I have so many things to be thankful for this year. As we play "best part of the week" later today, I'll share this Adon Olam. This is the whole Solomon Schechter of Westchester Lower School singing our week's melody to the tune of "Todah." Todah means "Thank You" in hebrew and is a traditional Israeli song about the myriad things we have to be thankful for. I wish everyone a truly inspired Thanksgiving where we can reflect on the many blessings in our lives.
