How to Store Your Leather Like a Pro ✨
y'all... let me tell you about the time i absolutely RUINED my favorite leather jacket because i had no clue how to store it properly ðŸ˜
so i'm moving apartments last year and i'm like "oh i'll just fold this up real quick and shove it in a box" WRONG MOVE. came back to permanent creases that looked awful. that's when i went down a rabbit hole learning about leather storage and wow... i was doing everything wrong.
things that will absolutely destroy your leather (learn from my mistakes):
leaving it in sunlight - i left my bag by the window once and it got these weird dry patches
wrapping it in plastic bags - apparently leather needs to breathe?? who knew
storing everything together - my brown belt left stains on my black purse ugh
using newspaper to stuff bags - the ink rubbed off everywhere it was so bad
folding anything leather - just don't. seriously.
what actually works (wish someone told me this sooner):
honestly the biggest game changer was just hanging everything up properly. like my leather jacket lives on a padded hanger in my closet now with a cotton cover over it.
for bags i stuff them with white tissue paper to keep their shape - learned this from watching youtube videos at 2am lol. and those little silica packets you get with shoes? keep them! throw a couple in your storage area.
also humidity is apparently the devil for leather. my friend keeps her stuff in her bedroom closet instead of the basement and her leather still looks brand new after years.
random tips that actually help:
if you have those fancy dust bags that come with expensive purses, USE THEM. if not, a cotton pillowcase works too.
take your stored leather out every few months and just check on it. maybe condition it if it's looking dry. it's like plant care but for accessories lol.
oh and keep different types of leather separate! some are more oily than others and they can mess with each other.
anywayyy if you're looking for new leather pieces that are actually worth storing properly, i found some really nice stuff at our collection recently. their quality is pretty good for the price.
hope this saves someone else from making my dumb mistakes! drop a comment if you've got any leather storage horror stories too 👇
