Networking for Introverts
Introverts have great qualities; they are thoughtful, self-aware, they comprehend details, they are great observers, reflective, and they are great at close relationships. Although introverts have great qualities, there are also some disadvantages to this personality type. Introverts are quiet and reserved amongst large groups, making networking a difficult situation. This article will include things you can do as an introvert to make networking at ADPR Connection a great success.
First things first, do your homework. If there are specific companies and business that you’re interest in speaking with, do some research on them. Get an understanding for their culture and their work before you come to the event. Prepare some questions to ask the companies and businesses as well as some answers for the possible questions that they may ask you. Having prior knowledge, gives you a one up-you don’t have to stress about not knowing what to talk about.
If the company or business you want to speak with is already mid-conversation with another student, no need to panic. Focus on one person, and either ask them a question or ask if you could join them-and that’s it. Now, just listen.
Leaving a conversation, this is awkward for anyone-not just introverts. Wait for a pause in the conversation and let everyone know that it was pleasure speaking with them and tell them that you’re going to go around and mingle. If you’re interested in keeping contact with the professionals, ask them what the best way to stay in contact is.
It’s important to remember that listening is an essential element in communicating and networking. Introverts are great listeners. So, if you have to spark a conversation-simply ask one question and listen to the answer. Actively listen so that you can ask a following question that is relevant to the direction of the conversation.
Don’t feel like you have to speak to every company and business at the event, and you don’t have to go at it alone. Network with a buddy! Spark conversations with your fellow peers, not about anything professional but just for fun. It’ll help you relax.
And remember to just be the best you that you can be at ADPR Connection! You’re not a vocal super student or a graceful social butterfly when it comes to networking, so don’t try to be. Just be yourself. Have a good time and remember to smile!
