Adam turned around at the sound of a voice behind him. They were on a pretty wide street and this girl had plenty of space to move around him but her eyes were almost turned towards the floor and even a daft man like Adam could see that she was not in the mood. He opened his mouth to reply snarkily back but then stopped to think of his encounter in the Leaky Cauldron.
Better not.
“In a hurry?” he asked offhandedly, realizing the girl looked vaguely familiar. Was she a customer? Someone from Hogwarts? Almost everyone was from Hogwarts he reminded himself. He wasn’t one to ask people where he knew them usually not caring, so instead, he just settled on staring at the top of her head, waiting for her to push right past him.
Ah, lovely. She couldn’t remember his name, but she knew that the last time she saw him, she had been a victim of a wayward spell at work. Great. He wasn’t the sort of person she’d ever consider opening up to, Merlin, even her own friends were largely in the dark about everything.
“You could say so. I’m not on a deadline, but I’d like to get there as soon as possible, yeah?” She responded, expecting that he would perhaps step out of the way, but he didn’t. “Look, are you waiting for something? An apology for being rude or whatever?”
More and more like the Leaky Caldron. Except at least she was talking to him. “I’m not waiting for anything,” he responded. She was being pretty rude, the only reason why his feet were still firmly planted on the ground. Why should he step out of the way now? There were many other ways to get to wherever she had to go than right through him. “You’re perfectly welcome to walk around me.”
The fact that she hadn’t done so puzzled him but maybe they just had the same personalities. While she still looked familiar he couldn’t put a finger on it and at this point he honestly didn’t care. Probably someone rude he’d run into before
