I’m like 99% certain these three are supposed to be based on the animal companions (a pheasant, dog and monkey) from the folktale of Momotaro

meaning the unknown masked Pokemon seen in the trailer is likely meant to represent Momotaro himself

Actually, considering Ogerpon has “ogre” in its name it’s possible that it’s meant to represent an oni from the Momotaro story, and it’s a different pokemon - or a human character! - who’s meant to be the Momotaro analogue

And going off the Japanese fairy tale theme, I wonder if Terapagos draws any inspiration from the turtle from the story of Urashima Taro

Someone else I follow pointed this out first but the Momotaro trio also seem to be pretty clearly inspired by the Doronbo Gang from the Yatterman series!
