hahah omg so like I just see leck going oN AND ON about the ancestors and the glory of his house w/ her a LOT b/c she seems to GET IT and is like “you must help xia and ressa see the light” basically smdh and def applauds her for seeing her traitorous father for what he was and ~obviously~ she takes after her uncle (i’m sure this is what adria loves to hear ;DD) and yeah adria probably just like smiles and nods and screams on the inside :)

but yeah her tactics will def work on leck?? like y’know sharing information that is unfavorable but not traitorous so it doesn’t look suspicious

anyway I feel like they do have a “friendship” which is literally just leck going on and on about the glory of the quasars and then he’ll randomly yell about how much he hates everyone who opposes them and adria is just expected to agree w/ him???????

Betrayed | Ressa & Adria

Adria had met Ressa with a warm smile; a smile that had almost disarmed her. It would be so easy, Ressa realized, when they were alone together to revert back to things had been before. Adria had once been one of Ressa’s closest friends; someone she would trust with anything. How bitterly misplaced that trust had been! 

She’d almost smiled back, that morning, but instead Adria’s greeting caused her to tense. You can’t trust her, she reminded herself, You can’t trust any of them. 

Ressa’s greeting was cool in comparison. Some days, her guard dropped more than others, but she’d never admit anything to Adria that she wouldn’t want her husband to know. She had little doubts that Aram would have Adria report to him on anything and everything that Ressa did or said. It was clear to Ressa that he was eager for her to be gone, one way or another. It would be easier for him if Ressa dug her own grave.

She was sitting at her dressing table, unmoving. This afternoon, they would be attending the arena. The thought made her feel ill. How could Adria be so calm? She might be made to watch her own brother die. Was she really so unfeeling as that? 

“I don’t know which to wear.” She said. What did one wear to watch people die?

Adria watched the smile die in Ressa’s eyes, its likeness frozen on her lips like the ice of Adria’s home world.  Dropping her eyes away, Adria thought of the things that she had done.

Before Ressa had arrived here, Adria had felt so alone.  Surrounded by enemies, hemmed in, watched, unsure...her world had closed to single moments with no possible future ahead, clouded by grief and horror and mistrust.  Yet, somehow, she’d survived.  Adria knew that her dear friend, Ressa, now felt the same.  In Ressa’s eyes, Adria, herself, was one of these very enemies.  Adria had had the luxury, at least, of being sure that everyone around her was a foe.  Ressa had to feel as though there were a knife in her back.  

Try as she might to remind herself of this, Adria still felt the sting.  Ressa’s rejections isolated her yet again, thrusting her back into the cold reality of her life.  True, there had been no way out, and the fate had been inevitable: House Tark had simply turned their dire future to small advantage, but Adria had still reported her own father to the authorities.  She had signed his death warrant and that of her brother’s in that same move.  Not a day went by that she did not feel the weight of these choices and, she knew good and well, not a day went by that Ressa, too, did not think of them.  After all, how could she trust someone who had betrayed her own beloved family?

Steeling herself, Adria nodded at the sound of her question.  “Perhaps none of these,” she replied softly.  “Given your support of my brother, perhaps something else would suit.  If Your Imperial Highness will permit me,” she began, gesturing towards the door.  When Ressa nodded, Adria stepped outside.  

Stepping outside into the corridor, Adria sucked in a deep, fortifying breath.  She loathed the Arena, loathed it beyond any words, but there was nothing to do.  Either way, Orion would be there today.  Adria wished there was more that she could do but, beyond betting and anonymous endorsements, she could not risk the only step up her father’s death had gained for Velorum Nocate: her own position of trust within the very household of the so-called Emperor.

Squaring her shoulders, Adria took her first again, walking towards her own chambers and quickly returned with five dresses.  “Perhaps,” she suggested.  “A public show of support of Orion might be in order,” she began.  “My dresses are, as you see, all in Tark white,” she said laying down each in turn.  

White, all five white.  The [ first ] featured a bejeweled top and flowed from the chest downward.  The [ second ]  was a white gown with an off-the-shoulder design edged in black beading ((I changed the colors but its the same design ;D)).  The [ third ] featured a scooping neck and gathered below the waist slightly - but forgivingly enough to accommodate the empress’s pregnancy with grace.  The [ fourth ] gathered and tapered from the chest and flowed outward, streaming gracefully with the mover.  The [ fifth ] and final dress was a simpler cut, a white shift dress with clean lines that complimented the figure while not exposing its features too much, given Ressa’s delicate condition.

“Do you perhaps fancy any of these?”

Adria did not know what was appropriate to wear to a murder, but she knew one thing: a show of support for her House could not go wanting.  It was the only armor Adria had left.

I’M CRYING B/C HONESTLY THIS IS THE MOST ARAM THING I’VE EVER READ??? #facepalm

lakjsflaksjdfljasf ugh but sera and adira helping after the sack of vaane ugh you know that that was a thing!!!! and honestly something that ressa will never forget!!!! but yeah it probs does feel kinda tainted now haha and I feel like ressa wonders if adria was wearing a mask her entire life and this is who she really is or what happened  … but I feel like she’s unsure of exactly the kind of person adira is, b/c I feel like she does still see a lot of genuine kindness from her and part of her hopes it is for real but the truth is she fears it is just adria’s way of getting ressa’s guard down/getting her to trust her so she can spill of her secrets to aram haha

(Anyway: in regards to your question, I’d always imagined that they’d managed to get that far with the help of Valerian security, but I’d be cool with Orieth somehow helping them too tbh????)

Okay, so I can’t remember exactly how long we said, but I think it’s been about a year and a half that aressa has been married atp??? and I do think that adria has been with ressa pretty much from day 1 if that’s cool w/ you???

HAHAHHA I CRY B/C RESSA HONESTLY HATES HERSELF FOR LETTING THAT EVER HAPPEN HAHA and meanwhile adria is literally in the best position to actually  help her haaha and she’s determined to isolate her #communicationissuess ;DDD  anyway, i don’t think she does know about their secret language tbh??? I feel like they keep it super close to the vest b/c they came up with it after they’d been betrayed by trusted ppl so I feel like they might be the only other person who knows??? perhaps valen does but I can see where even he wouldn’t??

I can so totally picture it!!!!  You know they came w all this relief!!!!!!  And I also feel like it was a huge bonding moment for everyone!!!!  And I feel like it was one of the last big things they did together before Orieth was unmasked (by Adria) and everything got messed up :(  So I know its something Adria thinks back on and is so grateful she was able to help and be there for Ressa when she needed her and that it was before!!!! 

Oh Valerian security makes perfect sense!!  I think that’s probs what that was then ;D

I think a year and a half makes total sense!!  And Adria being there from day 1 sounds great!  I can def see where her ladies would be appointed as soon as she arrived etc so that also makes sense!  Aram wouldn’t have her waiting around ;D  And GoD the wedding was probs one of the first times they saw each other in person after she outed her father #yikES

That makes total sense!!  Yeah, I can see where Valen and Mira would know...but I can also see where they might not!!  But anyway!!  Yes, I think that makes perfect sense that Adria wouldn’t know!  That being said, obv they’re escaping, etc - do you think Adria helped or do you think Adria was just as stunned by their disappearance as the Quasars?  Hahaha

Sera had waltzed into her sister’s chambers unannounced, the way she used to when they were both children. “When was the last time you saw our brother?” She asked, “How can you sit here and do nothing while he waits to die?”

Adria rose quickly, obviously startled by the sudden appearance of her sister. “You can’t be here now.” She paused, “I am expecting a visit from the Emperor,” She continued, her voice now calm and cool, “And I think we can both agree that it would be best if you are not here when he arrives.”

She was lying. Sera was certain of that. There had been few times Sera had witnessed her sister lie as a child, but she could always tell when she was. She knew her almost as well as she knew herself.

Or so she had once thought.

Not for the first time, she wondered if she had ever truly known the woman standing before her. Or if every look, every word, every promise that had ever passed between them had been false.

“As for our brother,” She added, “The ancestors will decide his fate.”

She spoke those words with such casual indifference, that Sera felt her betrayal now as acutely as she had that first day. She turned and left without another word, more angry with herself than her sister, for believing for a moment that Adria might consider lifting a finger to aide their brother.

She had wasted both time and breath, a mistake she wouldn’t make again.

I honestly have no idea??? sometimes I just like to think about family dinners b/c what??? is?? that??/ like????? (sera: not fun) but ah omg I agree!!!! I feel like all of the Tarks have such potential for interesting stuff b/c of all the stuff that’s gone on, haha.

OKAY, so let’s start at the beginning …

First off, I feel like you said, at one point, that Jareth also kinda pitts his kids against each other??? Is that right???? Honestly, either way, I feel like Ulek has a weird relationship with his sister (but idk for sure b/c I need to talk to Lauren)??? And since he didn’t know his mom, I feel like Adria might be the closest thing he ever had to a mom??? Not that they have quite a mother/son relationship or anything, but I feel like she was this older (I mean by a few years but enough that it was a gap when they were kids, y’know?) female who probably kinda looked out for him??? and honestly, I feel like she might be partly responsible for kinda ~balancing~ Ulek out a little and he’s a better person than his father b/c … well okay so that’s not really setting the bar that high honestly, but basically he’s not a little Jareth Jr. partly b/c of Adria’s influence, potentially???

I feel like he’s always clashed with Sera, tbh, and honestly he probably always considered Orion to be the baby of the family and enjoyed that he wasn’t the youngest anymore when he was around??? And so I feel like he may have been closest to Adria of his cousins????

So he def wasn’t surprised when Adria betrayed her father and did the ~right~ thing by VN/the Quasars, despite it being the hard thing and tbh he respects her for that (#facepalm). I think he’s proud that she’s risen so high w/ the Quasars but also kinda irritated that she went off to Arvor and they were stuck with Sera hahaha.

Anyway, idk what Adria thinks of Ulek??? I mean, he does try to be a good person –  like A for effort, but yeah he can def be cruel and unfeeling sometimes and def blindly does whatever his dad says (or y’know tries to haha) …

Ommmgggg but family dinners IM YELLING  Ok but they start out like Tywin Lannister’s dinner party in that Jareth takes the head of the table and then scowls at everyone else while they take their seats and thinks ~why me~ @god ;DDDD  Honestly though bc he has so much bitterness at Orieth I can see where he may have a like a dais set up where only three can sit w Jareth above all of them and Ulek on his right slightly raised and then a lil less raised Kahrin on his left and then Adria and Sera get to sit at the table way below IM CRYIN  Also it probs includes a small prayer to the Tark ancestors and a Great Prayer to the Quasar Ancestors heLP

YASSSSSS  Fun!Dad of the Year Jareth Tark absolutely pits his kids against each other and wants them to compETE for his affection (the way he felt he had to compete w Orieth for his father’s affection bc it makes him feel great by making others feel small *thumbs up*) and at any given moment he def makes it no secret of who’s in his good graces and who’s nOT *lookin at you kahrin make a quasar baby now or elSE* but I def feel like Ulek has def spent his share of time as the least favored (in fact probs he was more likely to be? bc jareth was all ‘be like your sister she’s gonna be an empress someday’)

lakdsjflkj;FKLASDJKLJDSF yasss!!  Even before Felysha died, I can toTALly see Adria going in and tending to him and playing w him.  I mean, she’s only - I think? - three years older but that’s a lot when you’re that little.  And I’m not sure when their mom died, but if it was before Felysha that probs just made her all the more sympathetic bc she was like ‘at least we knew our mother but he’ll never had that chance’ and if it was before the queen died, she probs encouraged them to be kind to their cousins etc after all they’d been through.  And either way, she def felt so much sympathy for him and probs just sort of instinctively started to fill that role bc yknow ~big sister instincts~  She does just want to look after/take care of ppl naturally so yeah hahaha

I can also def see where when she learned to read, etc, I think she loved to read to him and stuff and I totally see her teaching him lots of things like how to count and his alphabet and logic and philosophy such and esp as they got older making him question his code of ethics or telling him why she and her siblings and father treat the people in ~certain ways~ and that sort of thing bc Adria loves knowledge and she loves to share it and she’s also like ‘...’ a lot when Jareth speaks honestly???????  And I def think she’s more yknow diplomatic about all of that than her sister and takes time to understand what Ulek’s life/mindset has to be coming from that and therefore takes time to explain what her mindset is etc  And like I feel like Adria would def be there to try and comfort him or cheer him up or make him laugh if he was ever in need or that sort of thing and she def loves him like he’s another little brother <3

like basically all of ressa’s relationships in arvor! :DDD okay but wow ressa really really really does NOT like adria at all especially since they were probably friends/friend(ly)?!?!? as kids since ~actual princesses~. wAIT what if they had been like super close friends as children?!?!?? I mean, we already talked about how the Tarks/Harands would hang out as kids, but it would hurt even more if Adria had been really close with Ressa and/or Aranatha before she turned her dad over to the Quasars and tbh if it hadn’t been for all of the other betrayals (aka people who had been loyal to the Harands/friends of her parents who ultimately betrayed them to the Quasars) she may have been more of a mind to believe that there was more to Adria’s story than she knew b/c i think Ressa is naturally pretty idealistic bUT her worldview has def been seriously challenged haha, and I think she’d freak out but also ultimately believe that adria is this horrible person and IC RY bc if they were friends and especially when RESSA first arrived and jaeme was still a fighter and xia hadn’t shown up and she’s totally alone, adria is probably the closest thing she has to a friend and I can see these rare moments when they kinda slipped back into how things were for a hot second, b/c ressa would realize what’s happening and give her the cold shoulder again haha and i’m e m o t i o n a l

Btw, I’m pr sure we’ve talked about this but I can’t remember...how long have Aressa been married?  Also, do you think Adria’s been her handmaiden since day 1?  I’m totally cool w whatever!  Just wondering ;D  

ADRIA BEING HER ONLY FRIEND HELPPPPPP  You know those moments where they slipped back into how things ~had been meant everything to Adria though!!!  And I cry bc they’re both so isolated now.  I do think Adria v much trusts Ressa, but they’re never really in circumstances where ~someone~ isn’t watching so she has no real opportunities to tell her and - even if she could - there’s little Ressa could do (as far as Adria knows since I’m guessing she doesn’t know about Ressa and Arantha’s secret language?  But maybe she does?) since all her transmissions to Vaane etc are screened s/o to Yvana and just...yeahhhhh  She knows full well that Ressa is basically a glorified prisoner, too

OMGGGGGG but ok so like literally every single day since, Adria has wanted to tell her siblings what’s going on but for their own safety + the absolute secrecy to ensure success, she knows she can’t tell them a thiNG and it’s killing her and she knows they hate her and she gets it and she honestly hates herself a lil too and there’s nothing she wouldn’t give to put things to rights but she’s doing that the only way she knows how and bYE  hahahah ACCIDENTALLY GET IN THE WAY and Adria be like FML the whole time honESTly

um YES. This freaks Valen out sooo much tbh??? Like he def suspects her of being a spy and he knows that Ressa is smart but he is also afraid that Aram is looking for Ressa to slip up so he can kill her AND throw Mira into the arena and he’d probably get Arantha to rebel w/o being ready and then he’d seize Vaane and basically all of this is Valen’s actual worst nightmare and so yeahhh. He’s also not found of Adria b/c he thinks that she betrayed her father. Like who does that?? AND like to hELP THE QUASARS??? why??? And so yeah, idk how much interaction they have but he is def very cold w/ her and iCRY b/c Adria is actually one of the best allies Ressa has in the capital, she just doesn’t knwo it???

POOR VALEN he’s honestly seeing her and going ‘she’s literally gonna cause my worst fears to haPPeN’ and she’s off-world so there’s really not much he can do to stop it that must be SO FUN  So Adria def gets that he doesn’t like her + why (traITOr!!!!!) but she def doesn’t realize he’s played it out (logically) all the way to her bringing about the second Sack of Vaane + the termination of House Harand bc ofc she knows she’s actually on their side and so she def doesn’t get how much stress she causes him and I love communication issues *thumbs up*  Also AM I LAUGHING AM I CRYING bc I can totally see her being all ‘you might want to see if you can get ren to do x security thing or else someone might slip in and kill ressa’ or something and she’s trying to help but he probs thinks she’s threatening her?????????????  #facepalm

i feel like she’s gonna get a lot of ppl killed just for being alive so what’s one more?? jk jk but omg!!!! avaena is so intently grateful for what adria’s doing for her and tbh she’s one of the (many thousand haha) reasons that she’s doing this. like she’s literally sacrificed years of her life for the chance that avaena may become empress one day and avaena will never, ever forget that and tbh she’s terrified that in the end, adria will end up dead b/c of her and aldkjflakjfalkdjsflkjlafj but that makes her even more determined that none of these sacrifices made her in name will be in vain!!!

so idk that they’ve actually seen each other in the past sixteen years??? but they def knew each other when they were kids and that makes me v emotional b/c you know they were both happier/carefree people back then and aldkfjaldsfjalsdkfjllaksjf. also adria is only a year older than avaena’s sister and arantha and headcannon that the three of them were really close and avaena would sometimes tag along

But yeah, I agree that they probs haven’t seen each other in 16 years and honestly whenever Adria can get a transmission out to them, it’s really hurried and furtive and every time she risks exposure bc I feel like even the walls have ears in Arvor so it’s def the bare minimum Aurra and Avaena need to know and out again

i actually think that kol may be one of the few people that thinks that there was something ~off~ about the whole thing w/ adria and her father??? and like i don’t think that he thinks that it is b/c a valerian is alive but i think he thinks that she made a hard choice to possible try to attempt to save herself and her sister (like if she knew that this was gonna happen to her father/brother anyway??) oR that she was somehow blackmailed or something idk that he def thinks that there’s something more to the story. that being said, he def doesn’t trust her b/c he doesn’t know what that is/her actual situation but i think he can tell that she’s not this horrible person that all of vn seems to think that she is??

Adria be lowkey like ‘thanks for believing in me’ esp bc I think she’s knows that Byssya and Vaane are discontent and she’d love to drop the whole AVAENA VALERIAN IS ALIVE bomb on someone who could actually help make a difference like a king with an army for example ;DDD but before she goes around exposing the secret her father dieD to keep, she has to be absolutely sure it’ll be treated w the discretion and action, etc, necessary yknow????  So she treads lightly but she probs feels like Kol is both one of the few ppl actually worthy of trust (although whether he’d put Byssya before the Empire she doesn’t know) and also one the most important contacts she has and, if she finds she can trust him to have the same end goals as she does, he may listen to her when she tells him the truth of her circumstances and may be able to spread the news to any network he has and/or at least to Torul and possibly Arantha.

I do think, though, she also knows that he doesn’t trust her - and totally gets why! - so her goal is basically to get him to a point where if she says ‘hey avaena’s still kicking’ he won’t be like *leia voice* ITS A TRAP and yeahh
