No, but Ren is just like TELL ME ABOUT IT and then a second later “or don’t bc its technically top secret it was just an expression” tbqh ;DDDDD  And when they’re off-duty you know they’re like, “Let’s get a drink” and like wo using names or locations or anything talking about some of the more ridiculous things they’ve had to do and just relaxing for about half a second bc they’re off duty and this guy gets it amirite ;DDDDD

omg!!! but I’m in love w/ off duty ren/valen!!!! especially since you know that they are probably still kinda tense even off duty and like “our leaders could be murdering each other right now!!!” and #facepalm. but NO I def feel like there’s a lot of “OMG BUT TELL ME ABOUT IT!” regarding soooo many things and they just shake their heads and drink more hahaha. :DD

okay valen does NOT like jareth (does anyone???? anywhere??????) but he def takes anything he’s ever heard him say (or rumored to have said tbh) against the harands as a potential threat and he’s like constantly eyeing him like IF YOU TRY ANYTHING YOU’RE DEAD basically and he’s not happy at all w/ this rumors about mira/ulek b/c he fears that it may just be a way to get back at the harands for stealing the quasars and that they may kill mira once she’s married and be like “it was an accident, obvi” and idk valen is basically mira’s dad and he’s NOT OKAY with any of it and yeah. I mean obviously he’d always be cordial towards jareth if they ever interacted but DOES!!!! NOT!!! WANT!!!!!

abby!!! we should def talk about these two! i def think that valen is 1000% clueless to the fact that talia cares about him in ~that~ way?? like i think his own romantic history is pretty limited and he hasn’t even been on a date since b/f the quasar take over/he met talia haha. BUT he def loves and cares about her in a platonic way and trusts her completely and he’d never in a 1000 years think that there would be anything that would be able to turn her against the harands (ofc he doesn’t know about her sister but sTILL)

Do you think there’s any weirdness since Valen protects the Harands and Adria is supposedly a spy in Ressa’s own chambers?

um YES. This freaks Valen out sooo much tbh??? Like he def suspects her of being a spy and he knows that Ressa is smart but he is also afraid that Aram is looking for Ressa to slip up so he can kill her AND throw Mira into the arena and he’d probably get Arantha to rebel w/o being ready and then he’d seize Vaane and basically all of this is Valen’s actual worst nightmare and so yeahhh. He’s also not found of Adria b/c he thinks that she betrayed her father. Like who does that?? AND like to hELP THE QUASARS??? why??? And so yeah, idk how much interaction they have but he is def very cold w/ her and iCRY b/c Adria is actually one of the best allies Ressa has in the capital, she just doesn’t knwo it???

Ok, so as I was saying to Jenn, Aram def encourages his rulers to bring security with them etc and I def think Arantha def brings Valen w her when she goes to Arvor unless she’s particularly concerned about Mira (which knowing Arantha has probs happened), but for the most part.  Anyway, as a result, idk that they’ve ever really spoken, but I def think they’ve met.  And ofc Aram def has him watched etc and has extra security in case of ~assassination~ but hey at least he probs doesn’t have to worry about him assassinating the empress too much so that’s something ;DDDDD

HAHAHA, I feel like Valen always stresses (s/o to Ren who knows what this is like!) when Arantha goes to Arvor b/c ofc he def wants to be there w/ her but he also doesn’t wanna leave Mira alone and I mean they def have other trusted guards back in Vaane but Valen doesn’t trust anyone with their lives as much as he trusts himself and he literally HATES these summit things haha. 

In other news, he def hates Aram a lot and yeah idk that they’ve really ever interacted but Valen would ofc tolerate him b/c he has to but if he goes his entire life w/o ever speaking to Aram, he’s more than happy with that hahah.

OOC | Arantha & Valen

Arantha is soooo glad to have Valen, esp now that Ressa’s gone.  I think he’s the one person left, besides Talia, that she really trusts, and she knows he will always give her good advice and since he’s known her since she was a child and ~Princess of Vaane~ he probs doesn’t expect her to be perfection itself 24/7 which I think def helps.

I think the two biggest worries that are presently on her mind (and therefore that Valen probs hears about alot hahahaha) are Ressa’s upcoming birth and Mira’s marriage situation and ofc both of those things ultimately play into larger ~rebellion-y things as well.  But, while I think the rebellion’s never far from her mind, it’s at the back of it rn bc she doesn’t feel she can proceed wo risking Ressa’s life and that’s simply something she isn’t willing to do bc for all that she might be Queen, she’s also human (even though a part of her feels she shouldn’t be).

VALEN IS SO HERE FOR ARANTHA. And yeah, he def does NOT expect her to be a queen 24/7 and I think, especially when she was younger, he made certain that she wasn’t. Like, she was basically robbed of her childhood and she is stressing about a lot of important things that little kids should not have had to worry about and I can see him being like “I will handle this” and basically sending her and her sisters out to play or whatever every now and then. And actually even now, I think he’s there to make sure that she isn’t overworked/stressed -- at least more than can be helped haha ;D 

I feel like Valen def worries about those two things a LOT, too, b/c obviously Vaane as a whole is v important to him, but so are the Harands and he knows that all three of them are/could land in v dangerous situations if they make the wrong move here and he’s determined that they do right by both Vaane AND the Harands but lakdjflakdjf it’S NOT A FUN TIME FOR THIS, haha. 

Anyway, I think that Valen was def hoping that Ressa would be allowed to have her baby on Vaane for an entire host of reasons, but that looks like it’s not going to happen. IDK he def realizes that they have to get Ressa away from Aram to move forward with the rebellion but that’s wayyy easier said than done and also something Aram obviously knows hence why that marriage happened at all tbh haha. 

ALSO w/ Mira he def thinks that Torul is the better choice for the rebellion but EW B/C WEIRD AGE DIFFERENCE and he def does not think that an alignance with Karth will help them at all, also I think he’s just highly suspicious of the Tarks in general since he knows that Jareth is all pissy that Kahrin didn’t marry a Quasar AND then there’s Adria who literally betrayed her family and like Ulek may only be ten years older than Mira, but let’s not let this happen haha.

Idk about you, but I feel like Aurra and Valen may have known each other ~back in the day?  Like, when Dex was bringing him to Arvor, etc?  I mean, idk whether or not they necessarily knew each other well or anything, but they may have met at least?

Oh yeah! I can def see that! Especially since Aurra’s parents and Dex’s parents probably knew each other well and I can see them going to a lot of the same things together. But I think that they would have definitely have gotten along well! They are pretty close in age and I can see them hanging out w/ Dex together. Also Valen was way more chill back in the day (I think all three of them were tbh!?!!?!!) and I can def see them being this awesome little trio <3

Idk if Dex has ever snuck into Vaane (Valen would be all about helping to harbor him ofc even if he’d be super freaked out b/c he doesn’t want to take any unneeded risks w/ regards to the Harands) OR if he’s ever been on the same planet with the Harands -- like if/when Arantha ever goes to like Byssya or something??? OKAY so Jaeme was in Vaane when he was 7-16??? Valen would have been 18 when he arrived and 27 when he left. Anyway, Valen probably knew Jaeme through his parents since his mom was a physician and his dad was an important member of the community and soon after they arrived, Valen became the Captain of the Queensguard and yeah. I def feel like he probably had the highest respect for his parents -- although he was probably constantly shaking his head/rolling his eyes at Jaeme tbh. I’m realizing that Valen is something of an old man trapped in an younger body and idk I feel like he is just like “YOUTHS” @ ppl like Jaeme hahaha. I also feel like he would have liked him, despite himself and he was not happy when he was sent to the arena and he’s def really happy that he survived. Idk that they’ve seen much of each other since, but it does make him feel a little (altho not much hahaha) better that he’s in the capital with Ressa???

valen dreis was orphaned at a young age 

his father had been the captain of the kingsguard and tbh that’s all valen knew about him and he kinda hung onto that knowledge

became bffs with dex carrow and would often go to the capital with him

as a result was well traveled/educated for an orphan

dex and his family basically became a second family for valen and idk they kinda adopted him <3

he was twenty-two when the quasars took over and during that time he was training to become a member of the kingsguard

he was at the palace and he was able to get to the princesses and smuggle them to safety during the battle

when they emerged, they found vaane destroyed and that the king and queen had been killed by the quasars 

they were forced to bend the knee to the quasars, but arantha was allowed to take up her rightful post as queen 

there were few people the young queen could look to for guidance as those who had been loyal to the valerians and her parents had been killed, leaving her only with quasar supports and traitors as advisors

valen was one of the few people she knew she could trust and he became the head of her kingsguard and a dedicated member of her council from that day forward

valen has been there for arantha ever since

in more recent years, he started to develop romantic feelings for arantha, but he’s never breathed a word of this to anyone (least of all arantha) and he doesn’t ever mean to 

he tries to remain indifferent on delicate issues like who arantha should marry but tbh he’s not always as good at that as he’d like to be

very protective over the harands

but at the same time, i think he’s often the voice of reason w/ them b/c both ressa and arantha tend to want to take drastic measures to ensure the safety each other’s (and mira’s) safety and valen isn’t quite as impulsive

tbh he doesn’t have much of a life outside of it??

wouldn’t know what to do with a day off????

does have a sense of humor but it rarely comes out

mostly when he’s with the harands/talia alone and idk i feel lke they all have little moments when the world stops for a second and they can be actual humans before they go back to worrying about the state of the entire galaxy

Valen’s very private and internalizes a lot of his feelings. Definitely has a lack of healthy emotional expression. Gets stressed by frustrated by this tbh

def doesn’t wanna smother them but at the same time IT’S NOT WORTH YOUR LIFE and idk there are def guards with them like everywhere so that’s fun
