"Also I was reading Sumeru historical texts for fun and there was a saying about a river that used to flow through here called 'the Nile'. The Nile...de nial...." He made a face. "Yeah, I guess it's kind of lame actually....." He'd been around Cyno too much.

"You're such a brat," Lumine huffed in reply. At this point, she was fairly sure he enjoyed ruffling her feathers with how often he did it. Maybe he was fond of her. People did express their fondness for others in odd and unique ways. It wasn't like he had many people in the world who cared about him. Which was probably why she let him get away with so much. "Ha, ha, get that one from Cyno? Look at you making friends!"

He raised a hand in a shrug. "Heh. Call me whatever you like." Though he dropped his hand and made a face the next moment. "The General Mahamatra tells jokes to anybody, but I came up with that one on my own. He's infected me with his dumb jokes, apparently." He sighed heavily and shook his head. "It's all Lesser Lord Kusanali's fault, with her insisting I interact with others and enrolling me in Vahumana."

My full piece for the Sprout’s Rebirth zine! I wanted to highlight the brother/sister relationship between them with a special holiday from my culture.

Raksha Bandhan is an annual ceremony between sisters and brothers. A sister will tie a rakhi, a sort of amulet or talisman, around their brother’s wrist as a symbol of protection. Likewise, it is a promise between brothers and sisters to protect and care for one another. Very fitting for how Scara and Nahida’s relationship played out hmm??
