callista took the drink without glancing over at who was offering , knowing already it was adrian by his voice alone . her eyes were set on the pompous decorations , and the fact that this was carlota’s wedding didn’t help her unease about the whole ordeal . necking it back , the glass returned just in time for leaving it on one of the trays the butlers were carrying , and retrieving another . ‘ do you realize how twisted this is ? ‘

he blinked as he watched callista down the drink in one go and immediately go for another before he shook his head a bit, looking down at his own glass. ‘ i know, right ? i mean, only plain champagne ... that’s a crime. ’ he said despite knowing well just what she meant, trying to keep the mood light. sipping his drink, he then let out a sigh and reached for the other’s elbow, eyebrows furrowed. ‘ hey -- relax now. it had to start somewhere, right ? it’s not ours, at least. ’

‘ i hope you do drink, ’ adrian began to say as he approached the person he spotted, a charming smile on his face. ‘ otherwise i will end up looking like an idiot with two drinks in hands. ’ the swedish crown prince grinned, hoping it wouldn’t end up being the latter.

‘ you should sit next to me so i can do something to alarm you if i ever feel like it’s coming out. ’ he said with a mock serious face before shaking his head and clutching at his heart casually. ‘ you do know i am the jealous type, lu. don’t go breaking my heart now and flirt with my fiancee while i’m sitting right next to you. that’s treason in every way. ’ he exclaimed the last part as a grin broke through -- he loved being able to tease and joke this easily with lupita. hadn’t it been for her presence, he felt like he might actually lose it at some point with how he had to act aorund others. ‘ wait -- wait hold on. hold on. ’ her next words taking him by surprise, adrian furrowed his eyebrows. ‘ ... It was true though. Having spent much of her life with little control over her own life, women that took shit from no one always brought about admiration from the blonde. At his shrug and knowing look she just replied with a wink. As he agreed with her suggestion, she broke out into a smile. “Excellent! ‘ please don’t ever, and i mean ever, let her hear that. i would never see the end of it for dear life. ’ adrian said with a shake of his head, a dramatic shudder coursing through him at the thought of it before he grinned. in reality, he would rather have one of his closest friends and his fiancee to get along well, but knowing callista ... ‘ well, her ground is not falling for the charms of me being the crown prince. hers is just annoying me to no end and being against whatever leaves my mouth. ’ he sighed before rubbing his temples, giving a nod of his head. ‘ yep. sounds about right. ’ he then tilted his head to the side, raising a brow at her. ‘ ---- why can’t you reach yours, on that note ? ’

leaning against the back of the couch nearby gave her a strategic position , which she was now forced to leave and replace with adrian’s bed . the look on her face was that of one that’s wary but will not admit to it , not under any damn circumstances . both brows slightly raised , one more than the other in a slight arch , and the half - smirk in place . taking a sip from her coffee , she first put the donut bag - still warm - on the bed , then moved around it and sat with her feet beneath her , body turned in his general direction . ‘ have at it , we have a busy busy morning . ‘ she said simply , before a muffled huffing filtered through the thick wooden doors , and then sound of unfiled , animal claws threatening to leave a permanent door on dinasty’s past’s doors shifted her focus . pensive for a second , she came up with a little idea . if he was to marry her … ‘ how pet - friendly are you , really ? ‘

grabbing a donut, adrian gracefully devoured it in two bites -- always one for big breakfasts. he reached for another as he held the coffee cup with his other hand, which was already half empty. he let himself eat the second donut in peace as well before downing more of his coffee and then looked back at callista. ‘ given you look this excited, we could only be going to a history lecture. ’ he said with a roll of his eyes, though the side of his lips tilted up and into his trademark smirk before he set down the cup, raising a brow at her next, rather peculiar question. ‘ as long as we are not talking about pet lizards ---- lizards are evil, ’ he added as a side information before shrugging. ‘ i actually have an alaskan malamute and a german shepherd back home that i raised myself. so i would say pretty pet friendly. ’

At least for me,” she said with a grin, not having been told all that much about Adrian’s betrothed just yet. Lupita just shook her head at his words and said, “What would I ever do without my little Leo? I swear sometimes I feel you have enough ego for the both of us.” Of course, she knew that most of it was just for show, but teasing was given to their friendship by now. “You might be surprised,” she said, “We may both end up in body bags by the end of the night, but our respective fiancées would have to meet each other at one point or another, right? Might as well do it while there’s some relative privacy to the meeting.”

‘ unfortunately, i don’t think callista would, how do i say ... give two fucks about the ‘crown royal’ card, at least in this case. ’ his lips formed into a grin, mirroring her own. at her next words, though, he couldn’t help but snicker, head falling back a bit before he looked back at her. ‘ oh darling lupita, always treating me like an ego powerbank. ’ he commented before pursing his lips and shrugging in a manner that indicated that maybe, she was right. they did have to meet at some point, after all, and this could be the only time they could muster up all the privacy. after all, he could only imagine what kind of a chaos it was going to be when everyone left buckingham, some returning home and some moving to whole different countries. ‘ we might as well try to make it happen soon, then. ’

okay , he was pretty in the mornings and silly - looking , and that was the source of the slightest smirk that soon took on an edge of sarcasm to it as she reached her arm forth and handed him the large cup of coffee . ‘ that’s not something , that’s the definition of nothing . so drink up , i come bearing coffee and freshly made donuts . ‘ she was being ridiculous and imperative , yes , but that was it : callista was ridiculous and imperative many times and maybe if she annoyed adrian enough before they were forced in holy bloody marriage , then it wouldn’t take him by surprise later in time . and annoying him was quickly becoming a hobby of hers .

another loud groan escaping his lips, he grabbed the coffee cup and straightened up in the bed to rest against the bedpost. not minding that it hadn’t cooled down enough yet, the prince took big gulps of the coffee -- at least it was close to how he liked it. with a sigh he put it down, rubbing at his eye as a last attempt to shake sleep off himself as he knew she wouldn’t just give up and leave. he would not admit but she was even more stubborn than he was. ‘ relieving to know that there’s still at least a crumble of mercy in you, princess. ’ he said dramatically, sitting up in bed properly as he made sure enough of himself was covered. gesturing at the side of his bed, he looked back at callista. ‘ suit yourself. i’m not going anywhere until i’ve had some donuts, at least. ’

after having disappeared and missed an event - GASP ! - her father had … flipped many things including all of his shit . and while he hadn’t threatened callista with the nitty gritty of her marriage arrangement , he made it clear that she ought to start fixing her wrongdoings . start being normal , perhaps , and have her biggest aspiration be to find love in a political alliance of two nations , make it poetry or an origami bird and , either way , set it on fire and find herself in that metaphor . it wasn’t that she didn’t like adrian , though his heart was at risk with her nearby ; the issue was people , people in general . but if she had to do it , if she had to be prim and proper and abide to what debatably was a huge reversed oedipus complex , then she’d do it on her own terms : naturally an early bird , she got up and went out to buy an entire tray of 30 donuts , two extra large coffees , and with only a knock and two seconds apart as a warning , she got in adrian’s room .

‘ riiiise and shine , hero - hair . it’s ten to eight , you’re wasting daylight , c’mon , c’mon . ‘ she spoke quickly and firmly , being purposefully obnoxious . ‘ here’s the plan : we’re doing something today . ‘

while adrian was no lazy person ( really, if he didn’t love himself and having fun too much, he could have become a mad workaholic ) he was also not an early riser -- especially after a night out. he would wake before noon of course and get things done just normally ... like normal people ... yet here he was, being disturbed from his sleep by someone. before he even had time to wonder who the hell would do such thing, callista’s voice was carried to his ears and his initial thought was, ‘of course’.

with a loud groan he turned onto his back before propping himself up on one elbow, the silk sheets draping down to his exposed abdomen. hair ruffled and sleep smeared all over his face, adrian furrowed his eyebrows as he watched her. ‘ i was already doing something, ’ he remarked, voice still a tone of sleepy rough. ‘ -- sleeping. ’ he said with a huff, running a hand down his face before falling back onto the mattress, arm draped over his eyes. ‘ feel free to join. that’s something. ’

“Perhaps when after we get through this entire summit we can make arrangements for our respective ‘newly wed royals’ tour to include each other’s home,” she suggested, before scoffing at his attempt to tease. “I wouldn’t know, seeing as I haven’t received any texts either.” It was an easy banter to fall back into with him, that it was almost as if the time apart she’d been complaining about was a matter of days. “Aw, that’s so sweet of you to say,” Lupita said with the soft expression to match, only to immediately flip it back to the knowing smirk. “If were into charming princes, you’d be at the top of my list for preferred betrothed,” she chuckled. An edge came across blue eyes as she contemplated his words for a moment, “You have no idea.” At the mention of his new fiancée, her curiosity was piqued. “Oh? Is that so, huh? Then maybe we should all grab lunch or dinner or whatever we’re expected to do as engaged adults now,” she suggested.

‘ for sure. at least that can be our safe zone. ’ he agreed with a nod to go along with his statement. he wasn’t sure just how much callista would be into it but nevertheless, that was a good idea. ‘ that’s fair. i’m down to sharing the fault equally here, alright. ’ he grinned back, knowing that he really was just at fault as she was. but he knew that their relationship was not one that would be so easily strained by lack of communication during a period of time. ‘ that’s one of the best compliments i have ever heard. and i have heard many. ’ he said half jokingly, before giving a tip of his head. ‘ i’m flattered, really. ’ he felt at ease with just how natural their friendship was, even when talking about something as serious as their pending marriages. ‘ we could try that. but i’m almost certain at least one of us wouldn’t make it out alive. that likely being me. ’

Make the most of the pieces we have access to…there may be hope for you yet.”

‘ it should only remind us that we should visit each other more frequently. also, it has been brought to my attention that texting is a thing, y’know. ’ he teased, his lips formed into the trademark smirk -- though, unlike when he was with many others, this time it wasn’t for the charms but simply for the playfull manner the two had in between. ‘ i would have, if i had any worry that you would ever need it. ’ he remarked before raising his eyebrows in interest, giving a nod of his head, pleased to hear that at least, through that way, this wasn’t too much of an ordeal for the princess. ‘ that sounds like a victory right there. i bet my money that now you go to bed at night peacefully with the image of your poor grandmother boiling with almost cartoonish anger. ’ a soft chuckle, the prince shook his head before waving a hand. ‘ hope is a big word. you only say that because you haven’t met my betrothed yet. ’

A low chuckle was accompanied by a gentle roll of blue eyes as she shook her head at his remark. “One of your many abilities, eh? Next thing you know, you’ll be informing me you’ve mastered the ability of not aging or some sort,” she teased. It wasn’t often that she got to show a sense of humor without having to deal with shocked faces and incredulous looks, so she took advantage of it. Moving in to give the man a proper hug, she replied, “I can’t really say that ‘enjoyment’ was at the top of my list of things to expect upon arrival, but at least I can honestly say that I was not disappointed.” As she pulled back and took a seat, she asked, “How about yourself? Clearly you’ve been here a bit longer than I.”

looking down at the dog, adrian’s smile grew softer at the sight -- he had always been such a dog person, owner of a pair of rottweilers who he’d been looking after for almost ten years himself. chuckling slightly, he held up a hand. ‘ hold on -- slow down there, bug. ’ he said with a grin, reaching to pet the dog. ‘ she looks very nice. good breed. ’ he answered before squinting a bit. ‘ gunnar ... as in -- youngest prince of germany ? ’ of course he had studied who would be attending the summit before, but even his research fell weak. ‘ i don’t know much about him, honestly. that could only mean that he wasn’t a controversial one, eh ? ’
