“hi…” salem offers him the tiniest of smiles. “c’mon in,” he gestures, thanking him for the wine as he takes if off his hands. closing the door and re-locking the three locks he’d installed himself, he guides maven into the kitchen where the smell of perfectly cooked steak and vegetables wafted in the air. the small home was situated on a large piece of secluded land. it was simple, tidy, but warm - just like salem. 

“i wasn’t quite sure you’d come,” he says softly, grabbing two glasses from the cupboard before popping the cork and pouring them both a glass to go with dinner. he gestures to the table, pulling out a chair for him and gently pushing it in before heading back to the stove, taking a sip of the wine. “mm,” he notes, raising the glass to him with a smirk, before preparing plates. everything about this felt so familiar yet so foreign. they’d shared many meals together - many, dare he say, romantic, nights together - but there was still a divide of many years between them. his feelings weren’t any different than they’d ever been. the moment he saw maven at the party he’d gotten the same familiar turning of his stomach that he’d forgotten about. 

THE THREE LOCKS WERE NOT LOST ON MAVEN, he was well accustomed to the life of paranoia despite being an exceptionally strong being. it was not paranoia of the humans that you didn’t know but still turned on you; it was of the ones that you did. it had taken maven a little while to arrive to salem’s home. he was beginning to realize now just why it had chosen somewhere small over something as secluded as such. if maven had allowed himself more time off campus, he might have wanted a place like this. a home, a farm even. but he couldn’t. not after everything that had happened.

❝ i wasn’t sure i was going to either, ❞ maven admits. ❝ but with our past, and our present, ❞ he added gingerly, ❝ it seemed a mistake to ignore. ❞ he still hadn’t truly wrapped his head around salem’s return. it was so surprising. vampires were so often the creatures that maven had seen fall. the shifter tried to smile at the raise of the glass, however, even that felt like a false movement. maven no longer felt any of his decisions his own. he watched salem’s lips as he sipped the wine. ❝ you know that maybe drink i was promised? i believe i could use it now. ❞

FOR SOMEONE WHO has deeply rooted issues with most relationships , the fae’s life sure did revolve around them in ways his mind and heart could not grasp easily. had they been easy and maybe he would have been able to make sense of what was happening now between him and the witch who crashed in his childhood bedroom ( along with everything else that happened that night ). her words shrug him out of his slouch and urges to him to nod appropriately at questions when they were asked , all while a hand reaches out to touch her’s once he notices her staring at it. “ you don’t need to thank me. ”  the fae’s sure any decent person would have done the same. or at least he hoped someone would have ( he’s glad it was him though and not some snot-nosed student or drunk party-goer ). he gave her hand a tight squeeze for reassurance and he leaned forward in his seat , brown eyes searching out for her’s once she starts apologizing ― the last bits catching him by surprise. “ scared of what ? ” there’s a crease forming between his brows. this just got really confusing all over again. “ nico , what’s exactly is going on ? ” 

IT WAS INCREDIBLY INCONVENIENT HOW one small touch from a person could make one feel things they had either purposefully forgotten or things they had longed for perhaps their entire life. somehow mikey’s hand squeezing nico’s was a combination of both. she wasn’t sure how something could provide such joy and turmoil at the same time. she sighed, sliding her hand out from under his and tucking it into her arm. it felt so cold without him to hold it. ❝ of this, ❞ she whispered. ❝ of you. of figuring out what this is and what it means. scared of telling people, ❞ his brother in particular, ❝ and of... ❞ there were a great many things that descended from there. ❝ repeating the past. ❞ it was the simplest way to phrase it. she didn’t want to fall in love and be left again. it hurt so much every time. she couldn’t handle it. maybe mikey felt safe at first because she could never date somehow related to her ex, but now it just felt more complicated because of it. ( she hardly even remembered if she knew anything about mikey at the start. ) ❝ i didn’t want to be a burden. to anyone. that’s why i went somewhere i thought no one would find me. ❞

Maybe spilling the beans was her better option to get it out  in the open despite his current status. “So strange. HOLLY WAS QUICK TO FREE A handkerchief from her bag and run over to the girl. ❝ just ignore them, ❞ the blonde insisted. ❝ we may supposed to be adults, but it seems not all of us got the memo! ❞ her voice rose as she spoke the last part, her eyes threatening to glance at the culprit. she bent over and picked up the phone. she was too concerned with the girl to investigate the state of the phone. ❝ we’ll get you cleaned up then we can report them. i know the head of security here hates pranks. ❞

Moon was next in line to get the last set of pancakes before they made fresh new ones. She was so excited because she was in love with how the schools cafe made their pancakes. She was also hungry too. While she waited to be next she ate on a few strawberries from her bowl. Once she looked up from her fruit she saw the pancakes were gone and the person in front of her decided to take the whole stack of pancakes. “ Well that’s just effing great! Thanks pancake monster,” she said to the person infront of her giving them abit of a glare. But then realized she needed to settle down. She was just cranky from not eating anything yet. She sighed and shook her head “ I’m sorry…that wasn’t me. I meant enjoy them while you still ca-sorry sorry,” she shook her head.

HOLLY WAS STANDING IN LINE, A LITTLE was ahead of the commotion. she’d grabbed herself a couple pancakes. curious, she walked back and held out her plate with the small stack. ❝ here, you can take mine. i’m thinking about switching to oatmeal. ❞ she smiled and tilted her head to the side slightly. ❝ does that help? ❞ she looked between the two in the conflict. ❝ i think you can go, ❞ she muttered to the other and placed a reassuring hand on their arm before returning to the person she’d given the pancakes to. ❝ i’m a terrible monster when i have low blood sugar. ❞ she laughed, it sounded almost like a cascade of bells. ❝ that’s why i tend to keep some arrowroot cookies by my bed for in the morning. ❞
