• Hiatus notice

lol in case y’all weren’t aware of my disappearing act I’ve put Qian, @advjungsoo and @advkeybum on hiatus until the end of February because my course at uni leaves me quite exhausted + I’ve lost Kibummie’s muse somewhere along the way and I’m trying to find it again.

I know I owe a shit ton of replies on Kibum and I’m sorry to make y’all wait but if I feel inspired you might get lucky.

he spends so much time gawking at them that he only hears the end of leeteuk’s words, catching his request for a picnic that had hakyeon laughing quietly. “no, i don’t have any plans, hyung. that sounds lovely, although how do you know that? how often do you eat ramen outside with other people, teukkie?” he teases, eyes slowly traveling back to meet jungsoo’s gaze.

Jungsoo can see that Hakyeon’s mind is a million miles away, seemingly captivated by the feathered beasts stuck to his back. He’s the only person who seems to think them amazingly beautiful. He flushes slightly as he can feel the other’s gaze on his wings, resisting the urge to fold them back, to hide them. What’s so beautiful about them he can’t understand: they’re mostly in the way. Except when he’s flying.

A smile spreads its way across the elder’s lips, making his dimple show, the sunlight practically making him a natural halo accentuating his happiness. “Oh! Excellent! Not that you don’t have plans—that’s sad—but that you’ll be spending time with me!” He gives a delighted laugh and reaches out to put an arm around the other’s shoulder.

“How do I know that ramen tastes better outside with good company?” Jungsoo repeated looking at Hakyeon with a knowing smile, “Let’s just say... hyung had a nice and normal life before the wings appeared.” He nodded twice before leaning in and whispering in the younger’s ear, “I even went on dates.” With a chuckle he unwrapped himself from his friend and jerked his head in the direction of his dorm. “I have some cups of ramen stashed away in the kitchen. Let’s go before we both freeze to death, Hakyeon-ssi.”

“Shit!”

Split second decision to veer off to the left. Big mistake.

“Ack!” Thud. Crack. Rustle. “Oomph! Ugh...”

Silence.

When Jungsoo finally gathered his scattered senses he found himself laying face down on the winter ground shivering from the cold. Propping himself up on his elbows he gave a cry of pain as he tried to stand up, instinctively moving his wings to compensate for the weight distribution. It hurt like a motherfucker. He hadn’t noticed it before but now it felt like his whole back was on fire. Something warm dropped onto the back of his hand.

It was blood.

Biting back another cry he managed to get himself onto his feet if only by clawing his way up the trunk. Cursing under his breath Jungsoo moved his wings as gently as he could towards the front so he could see what the damage was. It took several attempts, one of which nearly caused him to faint from the pain before his eyes could focus on their state. And what a state it was.

“Oh fuck,” Jungsoo exhaled. His wings looked liked they’d been shoved through a food processor and then stuck back together; feathers stuck up at odd angles, several lacerations were dripping red droplets of blood onto the frozen ground, and he was sure he’d accumulated scratches on his face and hands too. Oh, getting his ass back home was going to be fun. Luckily he wasn’t too far from Daybreak, even if he was stuck travelling back on foot.

Forty minutes later he made it back to where the back entrance—or what he called an entrance—of Daybreak was. Jungsoo eyed the tall fence flexing his wings nearly causing him to black out. With a loud yell, he used his injured wings—thankfully not broken—to propel him over the fence and back to his sanctuary from the world. Tears streamed down his face as he landed, his knees buckling making him fall forwards onto his scraped hands.

Somehow he managed to drag himself towards the direction of where the co-gender dorm was located. Shortly before arriving the adrenaline that had kept him going stopped and he collapsed. He was vaguely aware of a pair of hands shaking him but swiftly slipped into the inky darkness of unconsciousness.

Steam rose from the cup where it was perched on the desk, the tea inside it a light brown. The smell of jasmine wafted through the room bringing a touch of nature to what otherwise was a rather boring and sterile room.

Jungsoo stood by the wooden desk sorting through files that had accumulated over the years since the Foundation had been founded. Of course they didn’t just have paper copies—that would be stupid—but he almost preferred them to the digital files they had stored on some encrypted server somewhere. The files varied in size, ranging from only a single page to some as thick as pocket novels one could find in the airport. It was fascinating, really.

Never before would he have thought that people—people like him—existed. Before his... condition had manifested itself he’d been blissfully unaware about the existence of mutants. And now he was elbow deep in old files sorting through gifteds into various danger categories. The sheer variety was astounding, and, to be quite honest, there were some mutations that sounded really useful.

He sighed as he once again remembered why he didn’t have a “real” job: his wings. Of all the things to get saddled with Jungsoo had drawn the stick with “large and non-concealable mutation”. Why couldn’t he have had some nice form like... cat eyes and night vision? It would have made his life so much easier. He wouldn’t have been such a burden to his family and he wouldn’t have had to leave them...

“It’s a gift, Jungsoo-ah.”

His mother’s voice echoed in his head which made him smile wryly. A gift? He didn’t know whether this was a gift or a curse. There was no way for him to ever live a normal life outside the confines of the Daybreak grounds. No way for him to have his own family, to have a relationship at all.

Who could love him, a man with wings shackled by society?

No, he’d live alone, smiling at the others who could freely walk in and out of the doors connecting his world and that old world he’d left behind.

There was no steam rising from the cup now. The tea was cold.
