Natalia and Devin had rushed to the hospital almost as soon as the nurse had rung her as one of the emergancy contacts. Traci was Nat’s best friend, in every sense of that phrase. Now that she had Dev, and Traci had Abi, that feeling between them had evolved into something far more too. Traci was Nat’s family, not the one she was born into but the one she had chosen… There was nothing that she wouldn’t do for the younger dancer. But, she also knew that Abi loved her too, she could see it in the way they looked at each other and today she could see it in the way she cried when she first arrived. Natalia hadn’t really wanted to leave, but she knew that if god forbid it was Devin in that bed, she’d want some time alone with her so Nat and Devin gave Abi that space for a few hours. But, Natalia grew restless in the canteen and came back up to the room, quietly sliding the doors open and entering. “Hey…” She said softly, not even trying a smile because they both knew it would be fake. Nat walked up to the edge of the bed and sighed as she blinked her gaze from Abi to Traci. “Do you… Do you think she can hear us?”

Today was meant to be a good day. A special day. After weeks of planning, the ring she had made specially for Traci Hendrix was ready. She had picked it up and returned home, ready to start planning everything and get everything for the proposal ready when she received the call and was leaving the apartment all over again to go to her car. Abigail tried to remain calm, not wanting to risk sobbing on the way to the hospital and risking another accident. But once she was lead to her girlfriend’s room and saw her there, lying on the bed hooked up to machines in a sleep no one knew when she’d wake up from, she became undone. She hadn’t said anything to the nurse or to Nat and Devin; She just ran quickly to Traci’s side and carefully held her, sobbing. She didn’t notice that the others left her. Once Abi had been back to a more stable state, about an hour later, the doctor finally came in and talked to her about everything. Ever since then, she alternated between talking to her girlfriend and crying to just silently crying while holding her hand close to her. She sat on Traci’s bed with her hands clasping the dancer’s, holding close to heart. She could feel the ring box in her jacket’s pocket against her. God, how so much has happened and changed since she got it. She hadn’t noticed Natalia rejoining her until she spoke. And even then, the younger girl was slow to answer. “Sh-She can... I-If she’s m-mentally awake right n-now... It, um, i-it would be l-like standing in a d-dark room for her r-right now... She c-can hear us, sh-she just can’t r-respond, v-vocally or physically...” Her voice came out soft, dark eyes remaining on Traci. She was a sleeping beauty and it broke her heart. When was the next time she was going to open her eyes again? When was the next time she was going to hear her voice, see her smile, hear her laugh? Her eyes teared up. “I-I miss her,” she croaked, resting her cheek against her hand while one of the brunette’s hands let go to gently caress her face, lightly tucking some of the barista’s hair away from her face and behind her ears.
