ERZA BRINGS OUT A MINI gift basket, containing bags of tea and fruits, setting them down on one of the tables. Just a token of appreciation. Not too elaborate but it's thoughtful. She sits down across from her, readying to be checked.
Receiving the other's question, she nods. ❝I have.❞ She religiously follows the routine. The artificial eye is truly a gift. It not only restores her eyesight, but also represents her second chance at life with Fairy Tail. ❝It's still as good as new.❞ The handiwork is still impeccable like day one. ❝Well, I can sleep sometimes but I can't stay awake,❞ she admits. Her progress has not been linear. There are days when she's okay, and days when she's not. Sometimes, she wonders if this is something she will never overcome, and just something she has to learn how to live with for the rest of her life. ❝Is there really a treatment for it?❞
A rare smile escaped Porlyusica as she regarded Erza. The gift basket was a nice gesture---one that she could appreciate, she enjoyed fresh fruits---but the more important thing was that Erza was taking good care of the eye. This, from the healer's perspective, showed a certain level of appreciation for the work. And like most, Porlyusica responded well to appreciation of the things that she worked hard on.
"There are teas and the sort," the healer said as she sat down on the other side of the table. "Herbal remedies that can keep your thoughts from racing. But my field of expertise is physical health, not mental health." Sometimes, she almost regretted her field of focus. Then, she remembered that being your own mindhealer was probably highly frowned upon and that she should maybe really look into finding a mindhealer for herself one of these days. "If your physical check up doesn't show us anything, I'd probably recommend a fellow professional who actually has the knowledge required for successfully helping you."
one of my favourite headcanons is that not only does Sica have a MCL, hers is incredibly sleek and fancy and quite possibly personalised (because it was gifted to her by Bob). I also need to stress that Sica is very good at using her MCL, understands emojis and even memes---she does not require GTS (Grandchild Tech Support).
♫ ❚❙❘ The corner right before the park entrance and right before a major road was one Olexa was familiar with. It was crowded but that was what made it the ideal spot to play music. Even if the girl wasn't a fan of interacting with so many people, playing was always different. Something she had gotten use to before joining Fairy Tail, and now that it was disbanded something she was starting to get use to once more.
Olexa had her back turned for a few steps as looked at her keyboard set up, when the swoosh of some clothing could be felt. Pivoting quickly she was met with a somewhat recognizable face. ❝Oh-oh sorry uhm―❞ The name was slipping her. ❝I-I didn't hit you di-did I?❞
Porlyusica shook her head slowly, once more reminded that she had always been seen as severe and strict. She had never been one people tended to approach. It had always been something she had struggled with. Goldmine never had those problems, Rob had been a crowd favourite, back in the days, and even Bob had always been approachable when he had felt like being approachable. Many things that concerned Bob of all people severely depended on what Bob wanted to happen.
She became quickly aware of the fact that the young girl was much shorter than Porlyusica herself and that, especially in addition of the grand cloak (Bob's words) that she was wearing, the healer might be looking the part of a . . . wicked witch from some storybook. She took a breath, tried to school her features into something less grave and intimidating, and spoke, her voice calm and steady. "No," she said evenly, "I dodged. And even if you had hit me, I'd be to blame. I was rather . . . lost in thoughts."

Laxus blinked at the sudden shift in her demeanor -- it, like many things about her it seemed, made sense but caught him off guard. He nodded after a moment and moved to actually enter the clearing, resisting the urge to break into a jog to catch up with her. That wouldn't end well, he was sure, with the raw feeling already accompanying each breath.
He relaxed only slightly once he'd ducked inside, the small home familiar to him, but only just. He took his time glancing around for the things he remembered, trying to give himself time to figure out what to say. Clearing his throat and wincing, he eventually figured there wasn't much use sugarcoating it.
"The, uh--" Well. He'd meant to dive straight in, if his throat hadn't locked up midsentence. He shook his head and made sure he could get a breath in and back out again fully before trying a second time.
"-- been havin' issues with my breathin', again." They both knew why, of course -- and he'd never claim to regret what he'd done -- and he hated saying it, hated giving that demon any credit. So he typically didn't.
Breath was important to dragon slayers as so many of their abilities required breath control. Consequently, what was troubling Laxus was a major problem and not something that could be ignored. Not that Porlyusica was in the habit of ignoring a medical emergency when she was aware of it. And Laxus . . . she remembered when he had been sickly, remembered what it had taken to put an end to that.
And Porlyusica was not necessarily good at dealing with people because people were loud and used scented products that gave her migraines, but---she was a good healer. She was a doctor. Decades of continuous study, decades of knowledge were engraved into her very self at this point. To say she did not mind challenged would be true, but she felt conflicted. People's fates should never be regarded as riddles or challenges.
She nodded as she gestured for Laxus to sit down in her kitchen. He looked a little too big for it, but she would blame it on his coat. "So the medicines I prescribed are reaching their limit," she grumbled. She had figured that this would happen, but---this was a bit sooner than she had anticipated. "Well, fuck." The curse escaped her as she fought down the urge to fret with her hair, but really---what else was there to say? She was a doctor, she dealt in science, not in miracles. And Laxus might just need a second miracle. "There is . . . stronger medicine. But the stronger the medicine, the worse the side effects are gonna get. We talked about this a while back, right? How stronger medicine might make you really exhausted."
Portrayal Notes.
personality: canon divergence. I have stressed this many times before, but---she is an accomplished healer. as "funny" as "old woman who lives all alone in the woods doesn't to be bothered and hits people with her broom" is to the writer, it seems nonsensical to me. no one who studied for years to have the credentials to be a healer would actually hate people. I know that it is supposed to be because she is Grandine's counterpart and Grandine loved humans, according to Wendy, I don't like it because it flattens all characters originally from Edolas to carricatures, to mirror images who do not exist outside of being a reflection. I think she is a woman who lost the entire world she called home, who has overly keen senses that put a major strain on her (cause migraines and overstimulation, sometimes) and who has chosen "living alone in the woods" as the most reasonable accomodation for her needs.
personality. so if she is not the carricature, what is up with her personality? slow she is to trust, slow to anger. she is honest and blunt, having little patience for mindgames and minced words. she is dutiful as a healer and she continues to learn more about her chosen field every day. she is loyal, as long as she receives loyalty in exchange for hers. she likes to be out in nature and she detests artificial scents (they make her sneeze).
mental health. there is definitely some neurodivergence going on, certainly some depression and trauma caused by the aforementioned loss of her entire world of origin, but I am presently not in the right mindset to diagnose my muse
expertise & knowledge. she possesses a wealth of knowledge when it comes to lacrima because Edolas was reliant on the material. Edolas possesses more knowledge of lacrima than Earthland because Earthland can solve things with magic while Edolas needed to rely on technology.
magic. in my opinion, Edolas was once a world of magic but lost that magic somewhere along the line. this theory is connected to the fact that Edolas does not have dragons, but Faust designed his construct to look like a dragon which i take to mean that once upon a time, there were dragons in Edolas---maybe dragons were even able to travel between the worlds. for this muse, it means that Porlyusica is descended from mages, leaving her with the latent ability to use magic but without the ability to gather magic from her environment because the environment was barren. she was not able to cast magic in Edolas. however, upon arriving in Earthland, she was able to gather magic from her environment and promptly got very sick as her body was not used to this.
family. @reivun is her son. their relationship is quite complicated because they are both complicated people, but there is love. but there is also the complication of "what do you do when you love your son but you have come to acknowledge that your marriage probably left you with quite a bit of trauma?" on one end and a dose of "you realise your mother was young and had dreams and hopes of her own and much of it is now ashes and a grave" on the other.

Canon Divergences.
canon divergence re: the entire war arc. there is no reason to assume that zeref does not know that fairy heart is located in magnolia. or, at the very least: fiore. thus, mounting any war effort towards a country that is not fiore makes no sense. it means to create battlefields that are a waste of resources. and while he has resources, i still think he would want to win the war swiftly, obtain fairy heart and go on to relive his life after getting rid of acnologia. even faking to be serious about destroying all of the continent would be questionable; he is emperor and it is unlikely that anyone would have really questioned his strategy. especially since once fairy heart had been obtained, the continent of ishgal would probably have fallen very quickly. fiore is, thanks to makarov’s secrecy, unprepared and would have no time to call upon their allies and their allies would have no time to rally their troops and come to fiore’s aid. in fact, that even so many guild mages were available should be a minor miracle — it should generally be assumed that especially s-class mages would usually be on long-term quests. tl;dr: the empire focused their attack on fiore and fiore alone and did not bother with other countries since it would have been a waste of time and resources alike.
canon divergence regarding chapter 469: this is a matter of personal discomfort, but as i have lost my grandmother to cancer, i hate the use of cancer and similarly illnesses to ramp up the angst factor. for this reason, natsu having developed an anti-ethernos tumor did not happen and i will ignore all references to it. i have not yet read how it all plays out but as it indeed does not have any major plot relevance because brandish fixes it in about five minutes, i think i am better off without this vague idea of a subplot. additionally, porlyusica is one of the best healers in all of earthland so please erase her line 'but there are no surgeons in ishgal with the requisite level of skill…’ from your memory because had it actually occured, she would have had the skill. she is canonly an accomplished surgeon so i don’t know what the hell this is suddenly about.
canon divergence regarding chapter 512: porlyusica did not tell lucy to strip down and warm natsu with body heat™. while as a healer, she has personally grown used to nudity, she a. knows that this is not the case for everyone and that some would be uncomfortable and b. she is too level-headed to jump to the same ideas a teenager writing a fanfiction, lord. if anything, she suggested to summon aries to have her provide warmth via her wool magic as lucy has no spirit capable of using fire magic.
PAYING PORLYUSICA A VISIT HAS been a regular occurrence. Erza makes it a habit to see the healer once in a while. Even though she knows she's in good shape, she still does regular check-ups. She'll always be grateful for what the other had done for her. For restoring her eyesight. Their relationship is lukewarm at best, but she still wants to check on her.
❝Thank you for taking the time to see me,❞ she says politely. ❝Yes, I'm here for an eye checkup. But if it's not too much, then maybe an overall health check.❞ She sighs. ❝I haven't been able to sleep well lately.❞
She hummed to herself as she leaned against a counter. Erza was one of the more dutiful fairies when it came to attending health checkups, presumably because of her eye. The eye was, of course, if Porlyusica was allowed to say so, a very refined bit of lacrima tech. Few could match her, but that was hardly a surprise; Edolas has been far more technologically advanced than Earthland. Had had to be more advanced---the lack of accessible magic made people creative.
"Have you maintained the eye the way I taught you to?" she inquired as she pondered why Erza might not be sleeping well. Stress was a likely answer. Nightmares were another, unfortunately one that she had to consider. The world had not been kind to anyone lately. "And I may be able to provide you with a temporary solution to your sleep troubles, but I'd rather treat the root causes than just slap a bandaid on the symptoms."
"i suppose that is true." bob was an intelligent man, behind his eccentricates. iva'sn mother knew much more than he did and quite frankly, he was content with that state of being. it also meant she was in touch with her friends. "i'm happy you enjoyed it. perhaps, i shall finally take up one of his invitations for brunch."
his words were littered with sarcasm towards the end. the truth was that the brunch invite felt more like an ambush in waiting than a true brunch. but what it was bob was looking for, ivan had no clue. which was annoying. but now was not the time to be annoyed. luckily, he has better news. "the hatching season will begin soon at raven tail, if you'd like to visit. it's quite...fun for some."
She almost rolled her eyes as she traced the rim of her teacup with her finger. Ivan could be so . . . strange about social interactions sometimes, even social interactions with people who had known him all his life. Who had cared about him on some level all his life. And who does he get it from, hm? her inner voice asked. As always, Porlyusica elected to ignore it. "You should," she said calmly. "The croissants he serves are also quite excellent."
And this, she would like to stress, was not a dig on the fact that she worried about the fact that her son seemed rather thin and haggard sometimes, and that she wished that he would take better care of himself. She took another sip of her tea, regarding her son carefully. "Sure," she said. She had been almost eager to get out of the forest as of late. "I heard rumours of strange occult rituals your guild uses to name the new members of the murder."

You remember closing your eyes. You remember curling up, tucking your legs against your chest and making yourself small. You remember thinking it doesn't matter what I do, I'll be a splatter when I hit the ground. You understand physics too well. You know about velocity, you know too much. You remember deciding not to scream because no one would hear. No one could save you. You still detest the notion of wasting anything.
Even though, well---you are a dead girl walking falling.

You remember thinking why am I falling more slowly now? because you have never not thought about everything as it happens to you. Your mother calls you observant and smiles. Your father looks at you with worry, sometimes. Your mind is a constant tornado of thoughts. Never slowing down. Hah. Ironic. You realise, of course, that if your fall is being somehow slowed in a way---that you cannot comprehend and you hate not understanding---that does not break your neck instantly, you might actually stand a chance. You might yet not become a splatter.
Huh.
Only problem: where will you land?

You don't really think it does. Survival is survival. And survival is the only way to extricate yourself from from this situation.

So, you landed. Didn't break your neck. It still hurt, of course. You do not open your eyes. You do not uncurl your body. You try to breathe, but---your lungs feel like they are on fire. Your thoughts break off for a moment, then you can think clearly again. Your lungs are not the only thing that feels like it is on fire. Your body . . . it feels like the worst fever you ever had---and then even worse. Pain consumes you. Every muscle, ever tendon, every aspect of your physical being is hurting.
It would be fascinating, were it not this horrifying.
Maybe this is death. It feels unfair. You survived the fall. So why does it hurt so terribly? What little information about your surroundings you can still parse tells you that you are in a meadow. You hear birds---strange birds, birds you have never heard before. It sounds beautiful. You would like to hear more of their song, you think.
Unconciousness takes you.
She was a professional. A consumate professional, even. Able to set aside all kinds of personal opinions when they got in the way of her ability to follow her calling. But, ah. There were times when she struggled just a bit. Years ago, she remembered keenly, the young woman had been a witness to one of the (many) big and small arguments she had had with Makarov over the years . . . and truly, the healer could not say that she regretted this very much.
Still, she would not bring it up. Instead, she folded her hands in front of her on the table and nodded at the knight. "You're here for a checkup for your eye then, yes?" she asked instead.

Venturing into Magnolia was something that she did not do often, but she was expecting a package at the post office. The old mailman had been attuned enough to nature to brave the forest and deliver packages and letters to her mailbox---that already was quite a bit away from her cottage. She swallowed. Her neighbour used to check her mailbox for her now and then and bring her her mail when he came over to tell her about his newest adventures. But he was away, now. And she worried, he had been so distraught when they had last met. Flooded with concern as she was, she was distracted---distracted enough not to notice the purple-haired girl, but not too distracted to actually bump into her; Porlyusica's reflexes kicked in and she pivoted at the last moment, her dark red cloak flaring dramatically.
(Really, she scolded herself, she needed to focus more.)
