“Exactly, that’s why I love it. That and because I can use my mutation as a good thing.”
“Your mutation?” Her head tilted slightly. “Forgive me, I don’t really know whether it’s appropriate to ask this here but...” she hesitated for a moment. “Can I ask what it is?” There was no form of judgement in her tone, simply a genuine curiosity.

“Nope. A nurse at the hospital gave them to me. I’m not exactly sure why but they’re nice to look at.” She smiled, flipping through, occasionally stopping to admire the detailing of an item or a dress more closely until her sister spoke. At the question, Astrid glanced over before nodding, a small smile appearing on her face.
“Same, classy, but still pink.” Astrid went to laugh but managed to catch herself, not that their fathers would hear them, but Tyr could, or Nate, depending on which one was currently awake.
“I suppose they are,” she shrugged, the dresses featured were rather lovely, she couldn’t deny that. Perhaps it wasn’t the same sort of fashion that she was used to finding on Asgard, but then she would be more surprised if it was; so much was different here, it only made sense that wedding dresses were, too.
A low chuckle sounded in her throat, loud enough for Astrid to hear but soft enough that the sound wouldn’t be heard outside their room. “You and pink!” A pointed glance at the pink glittery feature wall followed before she glanced back down at the magazine, flipping through a couple more pages. “I like this one.” She held it up to show the deep red dress

“Exactly, drawbacks for mine including long hours which results in me in sleeping wherever I can. But I help people and I love that.”
“I can understand that,” she nodded. “Helping people isn’t always easy, but it’s usually worth it in the end.”
rileyxavierlehnsherr:
“Exactly, or that I hope that they become injured again.” He smiled, shrugging casually at Aelin. “It’s okay though, part of the job.”
“I guess every job has it’s drawbacks,” she laughed again. “Some are just more obvious than others. I’m sure there’s plenty of good to make up for it, though.”
rileyxavierlehnsherr:
“I mean to a three-year-old when the worst pain they’ve ever felt is falling over.” He grinned, shrugging at the girl. “Well, that is reassuring, the fewer people here the better. This is one of the few places where it’s considered rude to say ‘Hope to see you again’.”
“I suppose,” she shrugged. “Although I find it hard to believe a tiny needle is more painful than falling over.” Still, what did she know? She’d never had an injection, and she knew only too well that looks could be deceiving. His next words elicited a light laugh from her. “I guess that would be almost like saying you hope they get sick again.”

“Fine.” Astrid finally caved on the conversation and gave up, flicking on the lamp since clearly, neither of them were sleeping. To find a different topic of conversation Astrid reached under her bed and pulled out two magazines, the same bridal ones she’d read at the hospital with Jasmine.
“Pick out your favourite dress.” She commanded with a smile, flipping onto her back before she started to look at the pages. “There’s a really nice rose gold one in yours about halfway through that I love.” She smiled, glancing at Aelin with a warm smile.
She blinked a few times as the lamp came on, letting out a grumble of complaint but nonetheless shifting onto her stomach to better read the magazine Astrid passed to her. Reading the title, she chuckled lightly. “You really are planning ahead, aren’t you?”
Curious to see the dress her sister was talking about, she flipped immediately to the middle, flipping a few more pages before she landed on a page with a rose gold dress. “This one?” she asked, turning her head slightly and holding it up for Astrid to see. Glancing back at the page, she nodded approvingly. “I like it.”

“You’d be surprised actually, some three year olds can hold grudges.” He laughed, shrugging casually at the girl.·“That’s fair enough, I mean, hopefully I only ever see you outside of the hospital and that you’re not ever injured enough to have to go inside of it.”
“Really?” she laughed lightly, shaking her head as she gave a small shrug of her shoulders. “Are vaccines really so traumatising for them that they can hold onto a grudge?” Perhaps it would make more sense to her if she’d grown up on Midgard, but as it was the idea was rather difficult for her to imagine. “Well I certainly hope that, too. Thankfully I am a lot tougher than I look. It would take quite a bit for me to end up in the hospital.” Then again, you could never say never.

“You mean I don’t get to spend my days galavanting around the Realms enjoying myself? Dammit.” Of course, Astrid knew that she would always play a part in the running of Asgard, whether she was the Queen or not, she just hoped playing a small part was all she ever had to do.
“Because I want you to be happy. And I am also now incredibly defensive towards the Midgardians and I’m getting offended on their behalf that you won’t befriend them.” Astrid smirked, shrugging innocently at her sister.
“No,” she chuckled. “But you get to spend your days divided between Asgard and Midgard.” Somehow, she didn’t think her sister would have too much of an issue with that. “And I suppose I could ask for you to accompany me if I have to visit other realms for whatever reason.” It was so natural to speak as if it was a definite, though even as she uttered the words she knew that whatever future she had envisioned for herself could all change in the blink of an eye if her father chose Magni to be heir.
Shaking her head slightly to rid herself of those thoughts, not wanting the uncertainty to plague her at such an hour, she focused back on what Astrid was saying. “I have no issue with the Midgardians! Given father’s stories I could hardly dislike them, I’d just rather not put myself in a position where I know I’m going to end up losing people I care about.”

“Not really, but it helps them forget who I am so they don’t hate me when they see me next.” He smiled, shifting the lollipop from one side of his mouth to the other. “I suppose you’re here to visit your Dad?” The idea didn’t surprise Riley, he’d certainly seen the other daughter hanging around the halls before.
“Isn’t that just thing children do in general?” she asked, attempting to hold back a laugh and only slightly failing as the amusement laced into her smile. “Forget faces? At least those they don’t see frequently.” Even adults seemed to forget faces from time to time, after all. At his question, she shrugged, taking another small suck of the lollipop before she answered. “Actually I was just passing. I figured I should get to know the area a bit, and this is one of the few paths I’ve been down before so I thought it was as good a starting point as any.”

This time Astrid did actually give up on arguing her point about why Jasmine couldn’t come over, instead hoping that when she did decide to sneak the girl over, Aelin would happen to be out of the house.
“You should still befriend them. If you ever become Queen you may have to form civil relations with Midgard and thus you should learn how to befriend or at least be nice to them in the event that a situation like the one I just mentioned occurs.” She grinned, happy with her point before suddenly the girl turned back to her sister and gently poked her in the leg. “Go make friends. It’s good for you.”
“And that is what I will have my wonderful sister by my side for,” she grinned, only half teasing. Truth be told, if she did take the throne as she’d always believed she would before Magni turned up, then she knew the support of her sister, and indeed her whole family, would be invaluable. “I shall make you my head of inter-realm relations. At least when it comes to Midgard.” Who better, after all, given how well Astrid knew the place?
She rolled her eyes, shifting her hip to bump against her sister in retaliation to the leg poke. “You sound like a parent talking to a child the first time they’re let out to play,” she frowned, feigning a grumble. “Why is it so important to you?”
ingridhelasdottir:
Ingrid was slightly taken aback that she hadn’t figured out who she was, “Hel, actually.”
“Hel?” She echoed, frowning for a moment before realisation flashed onto her face. “You’re Hela’s daughter?”
ingridhelasdottir:
“Thank goodness, for a moment I thought I was the only one around here for a bit. It was concerning.”
“Definitely not the only one,” she laughed, shaking her head. “There’s a lot of us around, though some have been here longer than others. Where have you come from?”
astridthordottir:
“I’m not entirely sure. And he didn’t destroy it because I was there, he destroyed it because he was pissed off at Pops for some reason and because Gabe was there. They nearly demolished his house because they were both being stupid and pig headed and wanted to fight each other. I don’t know why Dad wanted to fight but Gabe was just using his frustration at the cheating situation to fuel his anger at Dad being dumb.” Astrid released in a single breath before she grabbed her pillow and pressed it against her face, groaning into it.
As Aelin started to speak about staying on Midgard however she lifted it up and peered out from underneath it at the girl. “This place isn’t bad Aelin. I get that it’s not Asgard. And unfortuantely there is no place on this planet that is as beautiful as Asgard, but it is nice. That’s all it is, nice, but sometimes that’s all you need.”
“I’m not going to attempt to understand his actions,” Aelin shrugged. “He does what he does, and sometimes no one knows why. You should hear some of the stories my mother has about him.” Though they were amusing to say the least, particularly those from when the pair had been young, they all had the same hidden message; just go with it. “What’s done is done, and I think there’s been enough drama without holding onto thinks that can’t be changed. Just ask him if Jasmine can come over, and go from there.”
The ongoing argument, if it could even be called an argument when it was conversed with such peace and understanding, was one Aelin doubted either of them would win. “I know it’s not bad, and I’m not about to go around like Uncle Loki did once trying to get the Midgardians to bow to me. But just because I’m temporarily residing here, it doesn’t mean I have to start befriending everyone. I came to be with my family, no one else.”
ingridhelasdottir:
“Ingrid, pleasure,” she paused for a second, “That’ s something they say here right?”
“I believe so,” she nodded, giving a small shrug. “Truthfully I’ve not been here long myself.”
ingridhelasdottir:
“Lead the way,” Ingrid smiled lightly and gestured forward.
Aelin nodded and started walking in the direction of the dance rooms, glancing at the girl beside her as she did. “I’m Aelin, by the way.”
rileyxavierlehnsherr:
“So you must be Aelin then? I’m Riley, I’m the resident intern here. I’m basically the reason that your Dad doesn’t live here because he palms off work he doesn’t want to do to me.” He explained with a smile, sucking on the lollipop. “Which is why I have these because I have to give kids vaccines and it hurts them. So lollipops and stickers are good rewards.”
“That’s me,” she nodded. “It’s nice to meet you, Riley.” With the exception of a few Midgardians that were connected to her family in one way or another, he was the first of his kind that she’d met. She would tell Astrid that later; surely the fact that Aelin had engaged in conversation with a random Midgardian would please her. “I suppose I should be grateful I didn’t grow up in a place where we need vaccines,” she laughed, lifting the lollipop to her mouth again. “Though I’m sure these make up for them.”
rileyxavierlehnsherr:
“Oh thank Heavens.” Riley sighed dramatically, letting his head drop forward before he smiled at the girl. “Are you the one that’s friends with my doofus brother?” He smiled before he reached into his pocket and produced another lollipop, removing the wrapper before he placed it in his mouth. “They’re sweet, suck on it though, don’t chew. I use them to reward my younger patients.”
Amusement was present in her smile again as she shook her head once. “I’m going to assume that’s my sister, Astrid. She’s been here a while longer than me.” And was far more open to making friends with Midgardians, though Aelin refrained from adding that. She watched as he took a lollipop of his own, mimicking him and placing the one he had given her into her mouth, giving it an experimental suck. Then another, before taking it out again to talk. “It’s alright,” she nodded, pleasantly surprised. “I can see the appeal.”
