He wasn’t weak for anything.
Not for danger, not for fear, not for the things that sent lesser men running. He was all sharp edges and unreadable expressions, a shadow in the night, untouchable.
And then there was you.
You, with your golden warmth, with your voice that wrapped around him like a snake, your laugh that would make his chest feel too tight. But most of all, you with those eyes.
Those eyes that cut through him like a blade whenever he had the fortunate chance of making eye contact with you.
Like right now.
You were looking up at him, lips parted slightly, big, pleading eyes wide as the dim street lights flickered above you. He barely heard whatever you’d just said—something about forgetting your jacket and wanting his, maybe? He wasn’t sure. He was too busy trying to keep himself from absolutely falling apart.
Because fuck, did you even know what you did to him?
The way your lashes fluttered just a little, the way your brows tilted up when you were waiting for him to respond, the way the shine of the city reflected in your irises, making them look impossibly deep.
Yeah. He was in trouble.
“----?” Your voice was softer now, questioning.
He blinked, realizing that he’d been staring. He dragged a hand down his face, exhaling slowly through his nose. Get it together.
“Mm?” he finally responded, but it sounded rougher than intended.
You tilted your head, frowning slightly. “You okay?”
No. Not at all.
“ ’m Fine,” he muttered, but he could feel the way his pulse was speeding up, the way his fingers twitched at his sides, itching to reach for you.
Your frown deepened, and then—oh, fuck—your eyes got even rounder out of concern. “You sure?”
He clenched his jaw. “Don’t look at me like that.”
Your brows furrowed. “Like what?”
He huffed out a sharp breath, running a hand through his hair. “Like you’re trying to ruin me.”
Your lips parted, surprise flickering across your face, followed by something softer and much more mischievous.
“-----,” you murmured, voice dipping into something a little more knowing.
And damn it, if you kept looking at him like that—like he was the only thing in the world worth seeing—he was going to do something reckless.
Like pull you closer, maybe tilt your chin up with his fingers and finally, finally kiss you senseless.
Your lashes fluttered. “You’re staring again.”
“Yeah.” His voice was lower now, rougher. “Whose fault is that, sweetheart?”
Your breath hitched just enough for him to know.
And just like that, he wasn’t untouchable anymore. Not to you. Never to you.
