i sometimes forget how privileged of a life a live. i get caught up in my minuscule problems & tend to forget how much worse others have it. although my problems are valid, since i am in fact human with issues of my own, i tend to forget all of the blessings in my life. for example, my parents. i took my parents love for granted my entire life and didn’t realize how lucky i am to actually have parents who are still together. yeah they annoyed me throughout my childhood/teenage years, especially my mother, but it was all because they love and care about me so much. i would never force myself to see my moms side of arguments, i would just think she was being annoying & a nag. just to be annoying & a nag. when in reality she wanted me to be the best person i could be and just wanted to help. i would never go out of my way and send my parents a simple text saying i loved them, let alone reply to their texts in general. i was so caught up in my own head i tried to push my parents out of my life slowly. never would tell my mom anything about my personal life. she had to learn new things about me from simply watching my videos. i would always forget that my parents are the two people who would actually die for me. my dad is the most caring/loving guy i know, and i never took the time to let him know that i appreciated him. i mean, i WOULD… just not as much as necessary. he is the wisest man and taught me everything i know. without his zen/calming presence and his on-point life guidance, i truly believe i would spiral out of control. especially in this time of my life, the transitioning age. he’s the only person that knows me to the core. my mind, my heart, my soul. he’s the only person i can talk to about ANYTHING with absolutely no judgement, just love. and he just wants to help me in any way that he can. i cry to this man for hours and he always knows what to say. but i never would tell him how grateful i truly was for his positive outlook on life, and his brilliant mind. you’re probably wondering why i’m just now realizing these things. why i’m just NOW starting to appreciate the little things my parents do for me, and the littlest ways they show me love. someone so close & so dear to my heart is losing his dad right now. not only is his dad dying at the most crucial point of his life, but it’s his FATHER. his role model. the mirror image of his future. he took his love for granted and would always tell me he wished they were closer. he would say these things but never act on it. ignoring his texts, never calling him back, simply because he was caught up in the college lifestyle. which makes sense, it’s hard to maintain a strong relationship with your parents in college when you’re figuring out who you are as a person. but he would forget that his dad was 52 and lonely. he missed his son, the little version of himself. you forget how deeply parents are connected with their children. they watched you evolve in front of their eyes and turn into the person you’ve become today. don’t neglect your parents. tell them you love them everyday because you never know the last moment you will have with them. appreciate them and make them feel appreciated most importantly. they do so much for you and we tend to forget. i realize this as i lay in bed holding the person whom i care for so deeply in my arms as he sobs. i’ve never seen this boy cry or even shed the slightest bit of negativity even in sad situations. seeing him so broken over this & hearing him say he feels guilty for pushing his dad away ripped my heart open. how he wants just one more conversation and one more piece of life advice. how his dad won’t be at his wedding, how his dad won’t see his grandchildren. seeing this boy sob over his dying father made me realize how blessed i truly am. i am going to tell my parents how much i love & appreciate them every day until i can’t anymore. i will never let petty issues get in between us. in conclusion, appreciate yo parents. they love yo crazy ass even when you don’t think they do. they do. ily friends.
