“I doubt the term was supposed to end up being endearing for us, but it stuck.” He climbed over and his boots hit the ground with a thud, sending a little dust cloud up around his feet. One hand still rested on the top rail, he was waiting for Sarah to climb over and request help getting down. As he kept his eyes focused on her, he felt a surge of happiness run through him. He was spending time with his new sister, hiking through fields, without his brothers. It was like a dream come true. It felt amazing to be free of them, even if it were only for a day or a few hours.
“How were you planning on spending your day? Running away from my brothers?” A small chuckle escaped his lips and he shook his head. “Believe me, it’s not an easy task. You’re much safer out here than in the city. Seth can’t run very fast nor can he walk as far as we have and Rudy is far too fashionable to wear a pair of hiking boots so as to hunt you out here.” Mark had thrown away his old military issue boots in favor of actual hiking boots, ones that normal civilians wore while in the woods. He was trying to leave his past behind and the little things like this mattered to him.
“right. ‘course it wasn’t,” that explained plenty. shaking her head, sarah closed the gap between her and the fence, taking a moment to size it up before she began to scale it. it was clear enough that mark was waiting to help her down, so in an act of pure pigheaded sarah manning brand stubbornness, she reached the top and began making her way down on her own, the makings of an almost SMUG smile pressing at the edges of chapped lips.
“somethin’ like that,” she muttered. point taken, any other way to spend the day didn’t seem particularly appealing. felt like there was no such thing as a lazy day anymore, no time to sit around with kira, s, and fee ( not that she’d ever been much for such things before all this clone shit had taken over, but she liked to think it was a possibility ), no time for much more than running. running, just like she always had ---- maybe that was all she’d ever do. “yeah, well, ‘s not like it’s possible to stay up here forever. ‘s not like i’d WANT to stay here any longer than i have to,”
