okay but shiv saying “I like it all” to tom’s advances. her pausing. him repeatedly asking her if she likes it , if she wants him. but she doesn’t want anything. she wants it all. she wants all the love she could possibly have, all the love she could never give. she doesn’t know what she wants. any affection she has ever been shown has been tainted. the poison drips through. she doesn’t want him, but she doesn’t want anything else either. so she’ll take what she gets. the only thing she’s ever gotten. he won’t make her happy. he’ll try and fail and eventually give up. he’ll become infected by the poison that’s innate within her. and shiv will lie stagnant the whole time. wondering if she had been microdosing this man with this inherited curse, or if it had been within him the whole time, if she sought it out.

the way shiv keeps talking about raising her child the way she was raised—half-abandoned, an afterthought—in a flippant, half-joking way bc she KNOWS it’s outlandishly cruel, she knows her child deserves better, every child deserves better, she deserved better but she also knows she won’t break the cycle. she knows she should but she also knows she can’t. like. “hahaha can you believe a child is going to be born to a parent like this.” and i think part of her wanted someone to call her out on it. make her confront what she was saying. but she’s surrounded by the same people.
