People who talk about what population density is necessary to "justify" a rail system are wrong but they're wrong in the opposite way from how they think. Even in Japan which has more than twice the population density of China the rail system is not profitable. JR makes most of its profit by operating malls and collecting rent from vendors. If you blindly follow profit instead of considering the broader social benefits the result will always be putting your rail system into a death spiral of rationalization. Stop expecting public transport to turn a profit that's not what it exists for.
The profit transit turns is in what it avoids (car driven development, the ponzi scheme of the suburbs) and in the economic and human opportunity that it creates in the areas it serves. It's a circulatory system. Imagine saying your lungs weren't turning a profit because all they do is move air around. They make everything else in your body possible.
i think a lot of people are unhappy because they thing happiness is something that people find or consume rather than something they have to be an active participant in
a lot of being happy/feeling better is just like. not doomscrolling and making yourself miserable. communicating directly with people who have hurt you to prevent further misunderstandings rather than staying silent and growing resentful. dont jump into arguements with randos. assume good intentions in others and act (albeit cautiously) as though thats true.
its not easy, but it feels better. its like brushing your teeth, youll be happy you did it and regret it if you dont.
“death to america!!!!!!” okay anyway have you considered running for local government or supporting a nonprofit that combats homelessness or volunteering at a community garden or driving old people who need a ride to the grocery store or doing anything to better your community instead of circle jerking on the internet abt the Glorious Revolution that’s not going to happen.
The Pokemon Company: Okay we just need a few simple card illustrations for our upcoming set. they don't have to be anything complex
