post 80's breakup DM. Daniel doesn't remember where this heartache is coming from so he falls back into drugs hard. Armand mourns their relationship, spending hours and hours in the little bathtub from the flat where everything began on divisadero street.
things to look for : they have matching ashtrays. Daniel has the remnants of a vampire bite but Armand also sports a human-shaped bitemark where he was letting Daniel mock-bite him. Hard so see because of the angle but Armand is sporting a black bindi (symbol of mourning) but his hands and feet are still adorning joyful mehndi from when he was with his beloved. The tapes around Armand are all recordings of Daniel's voice. They are both crying.

The comic depicts Danielās internalized ableism. Rothkoās suicide is acknowledged but not discussed in detail. Thereās angst, talk about kink and lots of fluff.
Louis is mentioned as well as Danielās daughters. Marius is not named but is hinted at. The comic is set up in post-Dubai-interview time and based on my knowledge about s1 of AMCās IWTV with sprinkles of book canon.

The Rothko retrospective can be visited until 2nd of April of 2024 in Louis Vuitton Foundation. I visited the place in January, so the comicās surroundings are a mix of memories and some image searches, but in no way fully accurate. Since visiting Paris next week is probably not an option for most people, the foundation has a very cool free app, where you can listen to an audio guide about Rothko and paintings in the exhibition. Since I am Finnish and I found out that one of LVFās first exhibition had some Finnish painterās work, ofc I had to include themā¦ Page 14 hasĀ Schjerfbeckās āDancing ShoesāĀ Ā andĀ Gallen-Kallelaās āKullervo Cursingā.
Ok finally some headcanon stuff:Ā in my head, while writing this comic, I imagined Daniel having accepted the dark gift from Armand, but both of them wanting him to live as a human as long as possible to enjoy the benefits of aā¦ mortal body. :āD Since, you know, vampirism is forever anyway, so why not enjoy the variety of bodily fluids, body heat, aches and weirdness of aging? While having a chronic illness is shitty, his life is not, and while his disability marginalizes him, thereās a perspective there, a person living and enjoying things, allowed to take space and feel his thoughts develop from these changes (that also affect over 6 million people around the world with Parkinsonās).
After finishing the comic I am not so sure if Daniel is going to be turned into a vampire after all. So your guesses are as good as mine, would love to hear your suggestions, hehe!
I wish we knew more about Danielās daughters! I just came up with something here because I wanted to draw them and wanted to see their dynamics as a family.
I have now read the Devilās Minion part from Queen of the Damned as a separate short story and appreciate the TV showās changes to Daniel even more. I canāt wait for S2ā¦..

Okay jfc I just saw episode 5 of TVL with the Daniel-Rothko mention. I made this comic over 2 years ago. There was no connection before that with Rothko and vampires, I just had visited a Rothko exhibition and had fun. It's probably a coincidence, but I am still very much (positively) losing it.
Daniel, open your eyes! I need your assistance, posthaste! I need to acquire a Face Card! A huge number of people on the internet believe me to have one. They are very impressed, but I only have an Amex Black, Daniel. I must get one before they learn the truth!
