Daily Rothko followers would be aghast at how many hours I spend pouring over the dark Rothko paintings, trying, probably in vain, to detect small differences in the scans. When we get into the last two years of Rothko’s life, he has some very dense and dark paintings which for me are often hard to distinguish from one another. Since we see flipped Rothkos and upside down Rothkos and a wide variety of colors. These black paints can be lightened to look blue or purple and it really can fool you into posting the same painting without realizing it. My latest batch of scans have been particularly trying in this dept, and many of these I believe we have rarely if ever seen online, so if any sharp-eyed Rothko lover sees something I don’t, please let me know!
As for this particular work, if you love the dark Rothko period as I do, this is pretty fine.

When a man falls in love with and marries a small bug, it is fated the bug never love him back. Or at least, is fated to remain unclear. The man can delude himself, and that's all that matters. He can treat the bug well, or treat it poorly, it will be a service regardless. The bug will eventually die, the man may or may not find a new bug. None of it matters to you, or even to me
