5 - Favourite relativeHis maternal grandma and grandpa (Nana and Pops). Pop's told him stories about Captain America and bought him his first comics. Nana taught him how to bake, something he still does on occasion when stressed.

Not in any more significant way than most kids. He had a dog that died, he lost his grandparents, but nothing ever happened in front of him.

Phil Coulson was never supposed to join SHIELD. He left the Rangers and Fury was content to let him have a normal life, then Phil, in his epic nerdery decided to make use of that federal aid for vets and went to college for history. Through his studies he managed to uncover the existence of SHIELD. Nick was not happy and vowed to never do anything nice for the man again.

Phil is kind of disappointed that the whole Kree blood transfusion that kept him alive didn't have any cool effects (super power type cool, not ''map to a secret city that drives you insane' cool).

Phil's nickname "Cheese" was given to him by Nick Fury because of the awful motivational speeches he gave his men in the Rangers. Learning not to blush with embarrassment at that nickname was the first step towards his signature "Bland Face".

He also has a soft spot for Dog Cops. An old friend was a fan.

Running his hand down his face, he couldnāt very well refute what Agent had said because it had been SHIELD whoād pulled their collective asses out of the fire. And the smug prick knew it.
āYeah, well, thanks for that,ā he said and this time his voice was level and even and that would be the only acknowledgement heād give to SHIELD for their help. āBut forgive me if I donāt have confidence in an organization that had Hydra at its core. Once bitten, twice shy.ā
Agent-agent-coulson:
āAnd how am I supposed to pay for my crimes? Right now all I have at my disposal is āsorryā so you can take it or leave it. But Iām not here for me. Iām not asking for thanks, or even forgiveness. Hell, Iām not even asking to be friends. I only came on behalf of SHIELD.ā
Coulson gave a considering tilt to his head. āHell of a way to live. Refusing to trust anyone. Youād probably make a better director of SHIELD than me at this point.ā
He paused, considering his options, vaguely frustrated by the sheer number of choices his moral compass ruled out. āBut I am in charge for now and as the Director of SHIELD I would like to formally say that regardless of the relations between our organizations, should the Avengers ever need our help, we will bring every resource in our power to bear.ā He rapped a knuckle on the glass in an approximation of a salute and turned to leave. āGood day, Mr. Stark.ā

This mortal might have lost much but he still had his life.

This mortal wasnāt special, he had merely been in wrong place in wrong time. A coincidence, but still at least this one was alive.

āÆ: What do they think of 'good' and 'evil'?
Phil thinks that good and evil are words we usually use to define something's value by how much it is like ourselves. If something acts in a way we approve of it is good, if not, it's evil. We rarely use them for their real purpose. We don't often notice the things that are truly good, and while pain and sadness are common, true evil is rare.
