//I’ve been neglecting this blog. How is everyone?
//I’ve been getting more and more into various horror and monster fandoms and I am thinking of making a side blog just for spoopy stuff. Help.
one of the best tropes ever is older siblings going off the rails to protect their younger siblings. maybe im just an eldest brother but it makes me feel things

"You are no longer licensed to use the software," Adobe told them.
Friendly reminder that GIMP does pretty much everything Photoshop does, and it’s 100% free. Fuck DRM and the license culture, we have plenty of open source options available to us as a consumer.
Lightworks is a freeware video editor on par with Premiere
Blender is an excellent freeware 3D renderer, possibly better than After Effects
Lightzone to replace Lightroom
Inkscape to replace Illustratr
Audacity to replace Audition (I also received a free version of Pro Tools with my Scarlett Solo audio interface)
If Adobe is going to be greedy shitheads, then fuck ‘em. Don’t use their stuff. Freeware can be just as good, if not better, than Adobe CC.
reblog to save a digital arts major
Reblog to save an artist.
oh jEEZ
I will keep saying this: GIMP sucks butts.
- Medibang Paint and Fire Alpaca for more cartoon style illustration
- Krita for painting
- Clip Studio Paint (not free, but often on sale and cheap even at full price) is better than PS for art and I’m about to cut adobe entirely. Even does some photo editing.
- Paint Tool SAI (again, not free but cheap) old but good, there’s a ton of hacked copies around too. Not hard to get for free.
- Open Tunez for animation.
I’m currently using Affinity Photo and it’s a great Photoshop alternative. One time fee only and it’s not really expensive, plus supports PSD formats. Free trial available too! Davinci Resolve for video editing is amazing as well! :)
Another great art program to include in the list is the completely free, no download, browser recreation of photoshop, Photopea! It has the potential/customizability to be as robust as a full copy of photoshop while also being perfectly accessible to anyone looking to just do some quick edits with no strings attached.
Also, heads up to anyone using it,
As of July 5th 2021, Audacity is now considered a potential spyware security risk,
so please approach it with caution and do some research on the situation as things progress.
HUGE list of free (!!) books by black authors and revolutionaries. includes writings by toni morrison, james baldwin, assata shakur, angela davis, malcolm x, audre lorde and frantz fanon.
If u want to write a story about a character that's just you but hotter with a dark twisted backstory and magical powers and a pet falcon or something, I think u should just go ahead and do that. Who's gonna stop you? The government?? Fuck the police.
What if someone barges in, points at said character and scream, “Mary Sue!”
Tell them to come back with a warrant
talk to me about physical affection alongside injury–like kisses on bruises, or hands gently running over new marks that are going to leave a scar.
“What happened, darling?” Silvano tensed visibly at the sight of a bandage peeking out from the edge of a striped knee sock.
“Oh, that?” Dara shrugged nonchalantly, “it’s nothing. Just hurt myself a bit”
Gently, Silvano ran the pad of his thumb around the edge of the bandage “But the nannites are supposed to protect you, from such harm, are they not?”
Dara flinched beneath his touch but forced a smile all the same “it’s not that kind of thing. It’s…you’re going to laugh at me…”
“Laugh? You’ve been injured, Dara, despite having assured me that your cybernetic implants provide protection. I see nothing funny about that. Perhaps we should discuss this with the technology department to make sure the implants haven’t malfunctioned.”
“They work fine, it’s just…” Dara laughed despite herself, “gosh, it’s so stupid. I literally just tripped over my own feet and fell. On Earth. With normal gravity and everything. I wasn’t even wearing heels.”
Silvano’s eyes widened, “you fell hard enough to draw blood…and you’re laughing?”
Dara scrunched her nose raising an eyebrow. “wow, you’re really worried about this?” she sighed, “babe, we’ve had this conversation. Modern science is a thing. Normal humans generally have better immune systems these days, at least most of us do. Even if it did get infected, a little pus and swelling wouldn’t kill me. Absolute worst case scenario, I could get antibiotics from medical, but I promise I it’s not that big a deal, okay? My pride was hurt more than anything else.”
Silvano’s brow furrowed a moment, as he considered this. Finally, he replied “I will do my utmost not to overreact, but I cannot cease worrying about you for all my promises. I love you.”
“You sound like my mom,” Dara giggled, resting her head in the crook of Silvano’s shoulder
“I should be so lucky,” Silvano laughed, kissing the top of Dara’s head and finally offering a smile, “as for your pride…”
Dara returned his kiss and his smile, “I’m sure I can think of something you can do…”
Some of my fav shirts/masks/hoodies/shorts from the last couple of weeks
/What happens when I try to write these days is it almost always ends up hitting too close to home.
Like, I’ll try to develop character stories and everything becomes an outlet for my existential angst
Like I write shit like this for Erik as he becomes more of an eldritch abomination as he gets older: “Things that make stuff easier make me too big. Getting harder to fit inside anywhere anymore. I don’t know how to be myself without taking up too much space. This is what I am: All-consuming. Infinite. Getting bigger and bigger, taking up more and more space. Now that I’ve been myself, I can’t go back to not being myself anymore.”
And I’ve just articulated my fears about how I interact with people re:my autism on accident. And this is the more mild personal shit I’m accidentally using my writing to deal with. It’s probably a good thing in the long run, but it makes it hard to just write for fun.
Is there a Roanoke character with Bruce Campbell as an FC yet? Because if there is, he should be the brother of @roanoke-etc ‘s Henry Rollins FC character.
What if Lancelot had an uncle who fought in WWI? And what if that uncle was named Elliot? What if the King’s Man was a Hellraiser prequel is what I’m saying.
Honey I accidentally detached my soul from my body and became a formless edlritch creature again
//*Casually using Damiano and Victoria from Maneskin as alternate FCs for my disaster goth sibling OCs*
“When we think of haunted spaces, we think of structures or defined areas with clear borders. Can the sea be haunted? How does a ghost inhabit that which has no borders, something formless that ebbs and flows?”
- Leila Taylor, American Gothic.
