“Ah, sucking up to the birthday girl? What’s your secret?” she asked, a playful grin appearing on her face as a small part of her body was truly wondering what secrets he could be keeping. Yet, she silenced that part as she felt his kiss on her forehead, putting a pin on that thought and coming back to it later. Seeing the look of discomfort on Jamie’s face caused her to laugh a little and she placed a comforting hand on his cheek, kissing the tip of his nose as she looked into his eyes. “She may not love you, but that doesn’t matter; I love you. You’re my husband, not hers. No matter what she says or tries to do, it’ll never work. She knows that nothing will ever tear us apart; She just doesn’t want to admit it. And I’ll let her know that you said that.” Hearing his change the subject was refreshing and she was more than okay with that. She furrowed her eyebrows and her head tilted a little, not sure if she was ready or not yet. “I haven’t, no. Show it to me?”
Jamie didn't think he was sucking up to her. It was more like an informal apology for being such a shitty husband. Even if she was still clueless. As Jamie took Tata’s hand and guided her towards the kitchen, he pondered over the state of their marriage. There was absolutely no doubt in Jamie’s mind that he still loved his wife more than anything. She’d been his first love. Jamie was willing to accept the fact that he was a terrible person, but he wasn’t sure he’d ever be able to accept a life without Tata in it. As Jamie pushed open the kitchen door, a large arrangement of red roses that lined the counters were revealed. “Happy birthday, amor. Te amo.”
