Laurel Castillo preparing to take a bitch to school.
agentholder:
Jamie didn’t think he was sucking up to her. It was more like an informal apology for being such a shitty husband. Even if she was still clueless. As Jamie took Tata’s hand and guided her towards the kitchen, he pondered over the state of their marriage. There was absolutely no doubt in Jamie’s mind that he still loved his wife more than anything. She’d been his first love. Jamie was willing to accept the fact that he was a terrible person, but he wasn’t sure he’d ever be able to accept a life without Tata in it. As Jamie pushed open the kitchen door, a large arrangement of red roses that lined the counters were revealed. “Happy birthday, amor. Te amo.”
A smile appeared on the woman’s face when Jamie took her hand, excitement filling her entire being. Things have changed the past few months; He was home more, they got to talk and see each other more, and the worries of him seeing other women have practically dimmed. True, she still worries that he has seen other women, but it feels like they’re trying harder. It feels like they’re both actually working for their marriage to work and that fills her up with hope. Seeing the beautiful flowers caused the woman to smile as she looked at her husband. “They’re beautiful, thank you! Te amo, mi corazon.” Standing on the tips of her toes, she placed a gentle hand on his cheek and kissed him, a smile finding its way into the kiss.

Jackson had entirely expected for the woman to simply acknowledge that he’d been polite – which was not something he ordinarily did – and they’d go their own separate ways, and he’d forget about it in an hour, so the woman asking if he was okay was… startling, a little bit. “Si, estoy bien. Esa fue mi culpa, debería haber estado viendo a dónde iba.”
He was a little impressed with how well he’d retained his Spanish. There had only been two other guys in his cell block who spoke any Spanish, and any time they tried to communicate in the language, the other guys would get paranoid and agitated, convinced that they were plotting against them. So that had stopped pretty quickly. He’d worried that he would lose the language entirely, but that didn’t appear to be the case, causing him to briefly wonder how much of his high school French he could recall.
Without offering further explanation, he nodded briefly in another unspoken, polite-ish gesture, and started to move past her to take his leave, seeing no more reason to stick around.
Tata smiled at him until she began to remember the time. Looking at her watch, she noticed that she needed to get to work very soon. “Me alegro de saber que estás bien. Odio ser grosero, pero tengo que ir. ¡Tenga un buen día, sin embargo!” The raven-haired beauty gave him one more smile before walking past him, throwing her empty cup away and getting ready to leave the coffee shop.
“Well, you still look as beautiful as when you were eighteen.” Jamie grinned widely, planting a thoughtful kiss on his wife’s forehead. At the mention of his evil mother-in-law, Jamie made a face of discomfort. Any and all visits to his in-laws were terrible, and hearing Tata repeat her mother’s consistent disapproval only made Jamie glad the woman hadn’t decided to fly in and surprise Tata. “Tell her I miss her,” Jamie deadpanned, hoping the conversation would steer away from her mother. “Have you been in the kitchen yet? There’s a surprise for you.” Jamie had ordered an extensive amount of flowers and decorated the kitchen with them. Granted, his decorating skills were sub-par, but it was the thought that counted, right?
“Ah, sucking up to the birthday girl? What’s your secret?” she asked, a playful grin appearing on her face as a small part of her body was truly wondering what secrets he could be keeping. Yet, she silenced that part as she felt his kiss on her forehead, putting a pin on that thought and coming back to it later. Seeing the look of discomfort on Jamie’s face caused her to laugh a little and she placed a comforting hand on his cheek, kissing the tip of his nose as she looked into his eyes. “She may not love you, but that doesn’t matter; I love you. You’re my husband, not hers. No matter what she says or tries to do, it’ll never work. She knows that nothing will ever tear us apart; She just doesn’t want to admit it. And I’ll let her know that you said that.” Hearing his change the subject was refreshing and she was more than okay with that. She furrowed her eyebrows and her head tilted a little, not sure if she was ready or not yet. “I haven’t, no. Show it to me?”
Jackson did not make it a habit to listen in on other peoples’ conversations. For starters, he was incredibly disinterested in the lives of strangers, because they were all boring at best and irritating at worst. Also, it was just flat out rude. He only vaguely paid attention to the woman behind him, enough to gather that she was 31 today, instead more preoccupied with his own phone and a rather intense round of Really Bad Chess. The barista called his name, and he grabbed his coffee with little more than a nod of thanks, before he turned to leave, and ran straight into the woman, who’d just hung up.
“Shit.” He stopped short, almost losing his balance. He managed to keep most of his coffee from spilling, which was the real achievement “Lo siento.” The apology left his mouth before he had a moment to think about it, visibly catching him off guard. For starters, he didn’t apologize that often anymore, particularly not on instinct, and secondly, he hadn’t realized that just hearing – not even paying attention to – the woman’s conversation had flipped the language switch in his brain.
Tata had put her phone away in her purse, finishing up her coffee as her thoughts ran wild. She knows how most of her family hates Jamie, and it’s not just because of her being married to him, but couldn’t they at least try to be civil and tolerant to him and when they’re speaking about him? It was tiring hearing threats being made about her husband every time she’s in contact with her family. Groaning a little, she got out of her seat and was getting ready to throw her empty cup away when she absentmindedly ran into someone.
“¡Mierda!” she said, filled with shock at the moment. Tatiana made sure that he wouldn’t fall backwards and she noticed that he didn’t spill much coffee, thank goodness. “Lo siento mucho por eso. Supongo que mi mente en un lugar diferente en este momento. ¿Estás bien?”
Jamie sat on the couch, patiently waiting for his wife to finish her phone call. He could tell it was her mother. Jamie wasn’t a fan of Tata’s family, but he had to respect them, nonetheless. The feeling was mutual, anyway. Jamie knew that they didn’t like him. Sighing, he waited until she finally hung up before standing. “Happy birthday, amor,” Jamie said, wrapping an arm around her. “How’s your mom?”
Feeling Jamie’s arms wrapped around her helped her feel calm, despite her mother’s dislike towards him and her continuous plan to split them up. “Thanks, mi corazon. I honestly don’t feel any more different from being thirty; Though, I’ve always said that on my birthdays.” Tata shrugged and her heard shook a little, giving him a small smile. “Oh, the usual: I am very good, Tatiana! How is Jamie? Good, isn’t he? Or has he done something that proves that you should divorce his ass and move back home? Oh, alright, fine. But do not say I didn’t warn you. Give him my love and wishes for his head to-... And that’s where I stopped her. As always, she obviously adores you.”
“¿Hola?” Tata hadn’t recognize the number when she first saw it, but she knew that the caller was from Mexico. Perhaps it was her mother or one of her other relatives? “Oh Dios mío, mamá! Es tan maravilloso saber de usted … Estoy bien, estoy bien! Gracias por preguntar. Espero que lo estás haciendo bien, así … Vaya, gracias! … Lo sé, todavía no puedo creer. Pero bueno, no lo entrega treinta y un días … Lo está haciendo muy bien … Mamá, no es necesario que preocuparse. Todo con Jamie está bien … Sí, le voy a enviar su amor … No, no he sabido nada de ellos todavía. Sin embargo, estoy bastante seguro de que pronto voy a … Muy bien, era maravillosa audiencia de usted! Por favor trate de venir a visitar pronto; Te extraño … Te quiero, mamá. Adiós.”
A huge smile was on Tata’s face and she hung up her cell, smiling down at it from her previous conversation. She missed her mother so much; She’s so happy to have heard from her.
“I’m fine,” Mila snapped, swatting off the concerned hand of her newest bodyguard. Her arm was still casted, though the bruises that had left her face swollen had receded, leaving her once-flawless skin stained with shades of purple, blue, and green. She looked to the nearest onlooker and shot daggers at them with her eyes. “Didn’t your mother teach you that it’s rude to stare?”
Tata had been talking to another nurse when she notice her little seven year old patient had left her side and was staring at the young woman. She had excused herself and went to the young boy, gently placing her hand on his good shoulder (his other arm has in a cast and sling) and spoke to him when he looked up at her. “Patrick, you know that it’s not polite to stare at other people. Please, apologize to her.” The boy looked back at Mila and said his apologies earnestly. “Thank you, sweetheart. Now, why don’t you go over to Lydia and she’ll take you back inside to the cafeteria?”
She watched the boy run back to the other nurse and head back inside before turning her attention to the young socialite. “I’m really sorry about him. He probably saw your cast and got excited, since he’s never seen an adult with one before and felt like he had something in common with you.”
“How cute,” said Gabriel frowning in a way that was almost playful. “Considering their obsession with me, you would think they would remember which angles flatter and which ones don’t.”
“... Why were you in my husband’s office?”
“Paris was incredible, as always. I brought presents. A couple of handbags and some watches. Would you like to see?”
“Uh... I’m sure that it was quite lovely and I hoped that you had a wonderful time, but I don’t know you? Not trying to be rude or anything.”
Shit. Her fingers desperately rummaged through her pockets and deep into her bag. “Hey uh…” despite Caroline being a functioning adult, asking someone for money was never something she enjoyed doing. “I don’t usually do this but, do you have any change? I thought I had enough money for the bus and…”
Tata was so excited to get home and to see Jamie. She had some very exciting news, which had left her in a good mood ever since she discovered it. When she heard the other woman’s question, she turned to look at her and smiled. “Sure, absolutely! Let me get it...” She looked in her bag and found an extra fifteen dollars before grabbing it and handing it out to the other woman. “Here you go. You can keep the rest of it.”
Reina giggled as her bubble popped, pulling her gum back into her mouth she turned to the nearest person, carefully poking them. “Sorry to bother you, but did you just see the most circular and perfect bubble that’s ever been created via gum?”
“I did, yeah! That was quite impressive. I’ll be quite frank with you, but I have no idea how to create gum bubbles. Never have been able to achiece it, and I’m turning thirty-one soon. Sad, isn’t it?”
Mimi looked up as she heard someone approach her, slowly turning her body towards the person, “My daughter is out of school in two hours and I’m going to pick her up. I’m not saying that I can’t talk to you or… Whatever you’re looking for, I’m just saying that there’s a timeline.”
“Oh, I was just wondering if that spot was taken or not,” Tata said, pointing at the empty spot on the bench. “I should only be here for a few minutes or so. I'm meeting someone soon.”
Nikita grinned as she sat outside The Black Cat, mindlessly patting her dog as she watched the people entering and exiting the club. Caspar growled as a man exited the club, causing the man to shoot her a glare. Nikita only smiled in return, carefully reaching out and placing two small pats on the dog’s head while she watched the man leave. “Good boy, do you want a flower?” She reached behind her, plucking a flower off one of her mother’s plants before holding it out to the dog, “Here, for y-” The young girl blinked rapidly as her dog ate the flower, not seeming to appreciate the gift as anything more than a snack. “Okay then…”
Tata had been sitting on a bus bench near the Black Cat when she noticed the young girl and her pup. She chuckled a little at the silliness of the little creature before saying, “He sure is a playful one. What breed is he? I’ve never seen a dog like him before.”

Luis: I had a good time last night.
Luis: Tonight?
Tata: ... I'm sorry, who is this??
I never saw you, not this person you’ve become. I see her now.
“I’m fine, honestly! I was just trapped in a lift for four hours, nothing as scary as a fire or something”
“But still, four hours? Might just be me, but that sounds a bit frightening. I hope that you had something with you to help keep you busy or some people to keep you company.”
