(( Just a quick update while I sit here in the hospital. Sorry for the replies/starters I owe. Mom had a few complications from surgery and I haven't been able or had the right mindset to do them. She's doing okay now and should be going home tomorrow, and I'm hoping to get to everything this weekend. Again, I apologize for the wait. This isn't how I wanted to start my comeback, as it were. "Indie?!" Wash heard the medic had returned and to say the least was ecstatic, he'd dropped everything that moment and rushed to the medbay looking around for the Grecian.
All of her senses were being assaulted at once; the lights were too bright, the reassuring hum of the medbay too loud and foreign, even the feel of sheets against her bruised and cut skin felt like one more onslaught.
The medic hadn’t said more than one or two words the entire time the other medics looked her over, nor could she look them in the eyes as they took sharp, startled breaths in with the discovery of each new injury. And while she knew it was because they cared about their colleague, how do you admit it was your own damn fault you were in this state? She’d fucked up big time and she’d have to live with the knowledge the rest of her life.
Then the steel freelancer bounded into the room with that boyish grin she knew was there, even though she couldn’t see it just yet, because she’d returned after what felt like a lifetime away from home. Home? She really was home, right? It wasn’t another trick was it? Oh, they’d tried that one on her towards the end, when they thought they’d broken her, but for once she hadn’t backed down, she’d held on with everything she had to the thought of going home to them, and here she was.
She wanted to jump off the gurney and give the younger man a hug, but just this once, she was thankful for the curtain separating them. Weeks apart wasn’t even close to the gulf Indiana felt on the other side of that thin piece of cloth. Stifling a groan of pain, she slowly put her arms back through the sleeves of the gown they’d given her to wear and asked to be left alone. Like a stubborn child, Indie wiped the saline trails from her dirty cheeks and plastered on a smile.
Don’t let him see how bad it is. If he sees, he’ll know, and if he knows…Goddess give me strength a little while longer.
"Ah, Odysseus, you can come in now," the medic said in a tiny voice.
The familiar nickname was enough to make him sniffle and her smile was as refreshing as a misty breeze on a hot morning. The steel marksman shook his head at her inquiry and reached forwards to take her into a warm, longing embrace him inhaling to keep himself from whimpering. Her long missed scent was heaven to his senses and his arms were gentle but firm around her as one hand carefully reached up to comb thin, trembling fingers through her hair.
There weren’t words to express how he felt knowing she was safe, she was home.. Who knew? Maybe Maine was rubbing off on him even more than just physical quirks? Wash just couldn’t find anything on his tongue worthy and honestly he didn’t trust himself not to cry. So he just buried his face in her neck and savored the feeling of her being.
Out of instinct, the medic flinched at his initial touch, the product of weeks of negative reinforcement, but she quickly relaxed settling herself in the moment, when his fingers ran through her hair.
Seeing him so small and helpless to speak, because of her caused a wave of guilt to swell and threaten to drown her. Indie held onto Wash to keep herself afloat as tightly as he seemed to be doing to her. I can't believe I did this to you and Atlas. How could I’ve been so thoughtless? Her hand slid up his back like a mother comforting a child until she rested it on the back of his head, then soothingly she stroked his hair.
There was so much she wanted to say, the least of which being what had happened, but try as she might, the words wouldn't come. Wash was too kind, too tender to hear the story and it would just end up hurting him more than he already appeared to be. No, if the medic was going to lay this burden at anyone's feet, it would Atlas. It was only right her lover know before another soul.
The warmth of Wash's breath on her neck and the comfort of him cradled in her arms helped calm her disquieted thoughts, and she returned to stroking his hair as a torrent of tears slid down her cheeks.
"INDIE!!!!" Caboose ran over to the other and bounced a bit in front of her, repeatedly. "Indie, Indie, Indie, Indie, Indie, Indie!!! I have MISSED YOU SOOOO MUCH, INDIE!" ((hiii ;u; ))
A wide grin formed on the woman’s face. Indie felt terrible for leaving the Blue soldier for so long, but there were still some ghosts she couldn’t shake and it was better to deal with them away from her family.
Taking a step closer, she rested her hand on Caboose’s shoulder to try to calm him down a little. “Hi Caboose. It’s good to see you as well. Have you been staying out of trouble, I hope?”
Caboose’s arms were quickly around Indie in seconds, hugging her tightly. (but not…too tight. Everyone always complained that he gave really tight hugs so maybe he’d take it easy on Indie.) He grinned widely and nodded as he pulled away. “Oh you will like it here, Indie, it is sooo great and and and Tucker, Grif, Simmons and I!! We are captains! But it doesn’t make sense because I thought Captains were the uhh…the people in charge of a pirate ship, just like Sergeant!”
Indie braced herself for the exuberant hug she was about to get, but she was pleasantly surprised at the restraint the blue soldier used with her. She listened with great intent as he told her, wait, did he just say he was a captain along with Tucker, okay, she could totally see that, but Grif?
"Captains aren't...seriously, someone thought it was a good idea to have Grif in charge of anything other than the rations? Hell, even then he's more likely to eat everything."
The Return
Before Tucker ever had a chance to see her, guards around the perimeter of the base spotted Indie. Two guards quickly rushed over to her, stopping her in her place as they pointed their guns at her. “Who are you?” “Yeah, state your business!” The guards spoke towards her. It was natural for them to be extremely wary of anyone not familiar to them, of course.
They were also causing a bit of a commotion. Some of Tucker’s troops paused their drills to look over to the scene. “What in the…” Tucker commented to himself as he saw them stop, looking over towards the guards and their intruder. He looked past them, saw the familiar color of the armor, saw the black hair…wait a minute…his heart about stopped up in his throat, quickly dropping everything he was doing to rush over to the guards. “Stop, stop, I know her! I know her…” Tucker said towards the guards, the two soldiers looking surprised but lowering their weapons a bit.
Tucker didn’t say any more than that, just moving between the soldiers to wrap his arms tightly around the girl in front of him. “Psyche, oh my god, you’re okay…” He said gently to her, looking to her face, taking in as much of her as he could. “You’re okay, right? How did you find me? You always manage to find me…” He grinned a bit, unable to keep in his excitement as he pressed an eager kiss to her lips, so grateful to those gods of hers for bringing her back to him.
Like a high speed atom colliding into another, the instant heat and rage that filled the raven haired woman almost exploded out threatening to engulf the soldiers who dared to stop her progress to the man she loved. Eyes narrowed accessing the men, feet shifted position, and slowly she raised her hands to make it appear she was no threat to them.
Make them feel at ease, and I'll close the distance with two steps and disarm them before they even know what's happening. I can't kill them-
Her train of thought ended there, because a voice she hadn't heard in forever drew her attention to the cyan soldier. The speed and grace with which he quickly had her in his arms shocked the woman. What had changed in him, since she was gone?
All that could wait, because right now everything else faded away to the background as she returned his embrace. The joy and excitement had her hand shaking as she reached to caress his cheek. "Eros...I'm, I'm fine. How're you? How'd-"
The questioning would have to wait, his lips having covered her own. She needed to feel more of him against her, and she wrapped her arms around his neck pulling him closer. Kissing and breathing were the only two requirements Indie needed to live, and there was so much of both for a long time. Finally, the two parted, and the medic couldn't tell when the tears had started to fall, but they were steadily flowing and she wouldn't let them cease.
"What happened to you guys? I thought...I'd lost you for good this time."

I have missed you so much!” He couldn’t help but grin and nod at the other. “Yes. I have been out of trouble and very good and I have only broken the sink four times while you have been gone….and my helmet three times. But it is fixed now. All better!”
"I missed you too, buddy. Sorry I got separated from you guys like that. I'll try not to let it happen again," she said matter of factly.
She put her other hand on his other shoulder and stopped him from swaying for a moment. Intently she looked the younger man in the eyes. "Those are all improvements over the norm. I'm proud of you. Now, why don't you give me a hug and walk me around the new place, okay?"
The Return
It was just another normal day for Tucker, really. At least nowadays. Get up, get breakfast in the mess hall, get to training. Warm ups, laps, training drills, directing the squad…those were the normal days when he wasn’t going out on reconnaissance with Felix. He had already finished his own drills for the day, and now he was standing to the side of his squad, yelling towards them to move faster, dodge quicker…all those things that Wash had done with him before. He even had a fancy little whistle in case he really needed to get their attention.
"Palomo! These are push ups, not nap time!" Tucker called out to the Lieutenant, watching Palomo grumble a bit as he pushed himself back off of the ground. Yep, these were his troops. Tucker hadn’t changed too much. Maybe he was just a tad bit more serious. More determination in his eyes. He kept his hair tied back and let stubble grow out occasionally since a lot of the times he went to bed too tired to care about shaving. A normal day.

The words repeated themselves over and over in the ex-freelancers mind as she watched the cyan soldier through the scope of her rifle. She'd wanted to jump into the man's arms the second she'd found him, but she couldn't. Once again she'd broken her word and to the man she was going to marry no less. But it hadn't started out that way.
Indie thought this would be the perfect thing for her and Tucker and Junior. All she had to do was go along with the authorities, give them anything they asked of her, and she'd be well and truly free of the project for good. They could go back to Earth or anywhere they wanted without the threat of imprisonment looming over them. They could finally have the happy ending; the home by the sea and the local clinic.
And then the distress call came over the comms and Indie's heart skipped a beat. It was happening again; someone she loved was in trouble and she wasn't by their side. It took three men to keep her out of the cockpit to have them turn around. But what she couldn't do with force she managed to do with guile and a silver tongue. They'd let her go after the Sim soldiers on the condition she still turned herself in when it was all over.
With nothing more than the other ship's last known coordinates, luck, and a gut feeling, the former freelancer had been searching for three weeks. Every dead end and cold lead was another rock placed on the mountain of guilt she was burdened with. And then one day she'd received an encoded message she couldn't trace telling her exactly where to find them.
Now she was here with Tucker right there in front of her, and she couldn't find the courage to walk up to him. He's going to be disappointed in me. After the last time, we said we'd never be apart again, but it had still happened. What am I...? This is fucking stupid. The crash was a fluke thing. Bad luck in a string of unfortunate events. Eros couldn't possibly be mad at me, but he should and will, if I don't get my ass over there right now.

Like an overjoyed child, Wash peered around the curtain when he was summoned before stepping in and standing aside as the other.. worried looking medics left. As disconcerting as their expressions were, the young marksman couldn’t think on it too hard as a foremost thought. Indie was home! Not much else had even registered to him that day for the pure excitement and happiness that had bubbled up in such a childish manner.
"Hey," he greeted, trying in vain to hide his smile. She looked weary and beaten up just judging by what he could see but she was alive. Stepping over and sitting down by her bed the younger individual nearly teared up, she was home. She was here.. "I missed you.."
The excitement radiated from Wash's head to his toes the second he moved closer to her, and when he sat next to her bed, Indie's smile transformed into a heart felt one.
"Odysseus, I missed you more than words can convey," she answered feeling completely relieved. Moving closer to the edge of the bed, the medic carefully extended her arms to the younger man.
It was Indie's turn to almost tear up, but she blinked them away not wanting to make the sight of herself seem that much more pitiful than it must already be. "What's a girl gotta do to get a hug from her best friend around here?"

(( Story time. There are people Indie loves because of being vulnerable and needing someone in the moment and love growing from there. There's ones she loves, because it feels right. And then there's Wash. It started out as affection for someone she saw as a younger brother, and then they became deep friends. It's like you always hear, the best lovers start as friends. But here's the kicker, she knows in her heart of hearts there's someone perfect for him out there who isn't her. She knows she's too flawed, too cynical, and too fickle to be right for him, and part of her is alright with that but a larger part that's heart broken it's true. ))
