Lost in the Labs// Jay+Ride
codenamejay:
“Okay, good.” I have seen enough sci-fi movies to tell you, if I see a clone of myself walking around the Bunker, I will kill it before it kills me.”
Jay takes another sip of coffee, checking his watch. It’s quickly approaching four in the morning and he’s still not tired. Tomorrow’s going to be a long day on such little sleep, but there’s no point laying in bed and staring at the ceiling when he can be out and about, bothering people.
“Hmmm, so like a field installer for agents on the fly? I like that.” Jay tries to peek over her shoulder at the schematics and design, but the code may as well be written in another language to him. Technically, it is, and that thought gives him a little solace. Jay just doesn’t have the mind for advanced tech. He’s too hands on, too focused on what he has instead of what could be. It’s a fault of his that’s too ingrained in him to change, but that’s why the Agent hires people like him to fight, and people like Ride to do the important stuff.
“So, you got anything I could test now?” Jay’s like a dog begging at the kitchen table for scraps. Despite his lack of innovation for technology, he loves to be the first agent to try out a new prototype or design.
“Sounds fair enough to me,” Ride replies, shaking her head in laughter, “I don’t think I’d want a clone of myself walking around either.”
“Exactly,” Ride nods, “It would be especially valuable for agents in the middle of missions who can’t exactly get back to The Bunker for a simple coms update.” Her current problem was that the wireless coding had a restricted range and for agents deep undercover, with perhaps little technology resources available to them, updates were practically impossible.
Ride had always admired the field agents, for she wasn’t half as physically inclined as they were, barely passing the physical tests that had been required for her to become an agent in the first place. EMT training, however, had given her a new challenge to explore, but the many of physical requirements were still far from her strong suit.
Eyes scanning the room, Ride’s eyes landed on a pair of guns which had been completely redesigned for improved speed and accuracy, as well as improved concealment capabilities. “Well, if your looking for a new toy, I’ve been working on those,” she said motioning to the guns, “I’ve yet to have someone take them to the range and try them in action.”
