[CW: Neglectful parenting, implied violence]
Maybe it was Tori’s inherited memories that shaped her into the person she was today, witnessing her dad cheat on her mom with his ex. Or maybe it was just the freedom that came with being the younger sibling—saved from having the weight of the world on her shoulders. Tori was always a bit of a wild card, after all.
For Tori, Trex was the only real constant in her life and more of a parent than either her actual parents ever were. Their dad left before she was even born, and their mom seemed to believe that parenting meant doing the bare minimum, but otherwise she let her kids be. It was Trex who fed her, got her ready for school, and helped her with her homework, and Tori repaid him by making raising her as difficult as possible.
At first, it was just innocent childish antics. Tori didn’t know how to settle; she was always restless and got bored too easily. She’d complain if Trex made the same dinner twice in a row, read under the covers after he put her to bed, and made messes around the home after he just cleaned up. It turned out that Trex would end up cleaning up her messes for her entire life.
Tori knew that Trex was up to something when he stopped taking her to work. Whenever he picked up odd jobs, like cleaning or walking someone’s belliballi, he usually brought Tori along with him, but then he suddenly stopped. He wasn’t around after school and didn’t come home until well into the night. For someone always so attentive to Tori’s needs, Trex absence was telling. Their neighborhood was known for their gang problem, a few of Tori’s classmates were roped into it, but she never suspected Trex would get involved.
When Tori was fed up with Trex being gone so often, she decided to follow him to see where he was going every day, and to her shock, she found him running errands for the local gang. At the time, she didn’t understand why she couldn’t join. The jobs seemed pretty harmless—sweeping storerooms and keeping lookout, but Trex absolutely refused to let her help. Her brother went as far to tell the rest of the members to turn Tori away if she ever asked for jobs. Being told no over and over again pissed Tori off, and she grew to resent Trex and his hypocritical rules. It made no sense to her when they would be so much better off if they were both making money for their family. So one day when Trex wasn’t working, Tori went to the gang and smooth-talked her way into finally getting a job. It was surprisingly easy to convince them, and they were willing to lie for her and to put her on a different schedule than Trex.
It felt a little like vindication when it was Tori’s turn to lie about her whereabouts and stay out suspiciously late. She told Trex she had a part-time job as a dish cleaner at a local restaurant or that she was spending the night at her friends’. Her brother seemed none the wiser, still believing that the gang stuck to their word and kept Tori away. The more she worked for the gang, the more she grew to genuinely like it. Not only was the money good, but she got to carry cool blasters and guns, which was more than she could say about a regular part-time job. When it was time for her to graduate, Tori knew she wanted to keep doing it instead of looking for a legitimate job, so she decided to come clean to Trex in the clearest way possible—by showing up to the same job as him with a blaster on her hip.
It would be safe to say that Trex wasn’t happy, and he tried to sever ties with their gang for good by moving them to a different part of Different City. What Trex didn’t seem to account for, though, was Tori was an adult now and could make her own decisions. Different City had their own local gang, The Returners, and Tori had enough experience under her belt for them to agree to let her join without any hesitation. Despite how much Trex disagreed with her choices, Tori thrived in that environment. It was high-stakes, high reward, and she never got bored with her assignments. The thought of working in an office made her want to crawl out of her own skin, so she continued to risk her safety and her relationship with her brother to work for The Returners.
In the end, Trex decided that he had enough of her antics and he moved to Rungung. Tori couldn’t help but feel betrayed, like he was giving up on her after he stood by her side her entire life. Despite her growing resentment and her secret hurt feelings, she still kept in touch with her brother. But without Trex around to keep her in check, Tori ended up getting deeper into illicit jobs with her gang and into more dangerous triads of Different City.
Tori’s lack of impulse control came to bite her in the ass in September 2025 when she got the bright idea to sell goods that she stole on behalf of The Returners to the highest bidder and collect the money for herself. However, the gang caught wind of her plan and intercepted her as she was meeting with her buyer, and they threatened not only her life, but Trex’s as well. With little time to get them to safety, Tori was lucky enough to find them jobs on the Prosperity. She called Trex and told him to leave his apartment as soon as possible, and sent him the coordinates of where to meet her. It all happened so fast that Tori didn’t have time to wrap her head around the consequences of her actions, but she knew The Returners would have a lot of trouble tracking them down while they were traveling through space. Her new job kind of fell into her lap, but becoming a pirate seemed just as good, if not better, as working for a gang. And, most importantly, Tori still got to carry a cool gun.
Marksmanship - Tory has excellent shooting skills and hopes to one day be promoted to Master Gunner.
Close Combat - Through her gang, Tori learned how to hold her own during a fight. Since she was still young and scrawny when she first joined, it was important for her to learn how to defend herself.
Electromagnetism - Whenever possible, Tori uses her electromagnetic abilities to her advantage. She’s pretty well-versed in them, but she doesn’t have much patience to teach herself anything too advanced.
