Gem helps bring Pearl her pain meds and snacks and heats up her heating pad when her period comes and hurts like hell(endometriosis). Cleo takes care of Gem when her antlers are shedding painfully. Pearl cooks Cleo dinner when they’re too tired to do it themself and haven’t eat all day. Cleo keeps Pearl from overworking herself and makes her finally rest. Gem keeps Cleo company when her EDS and POTS flare up and she can’t get out of bed. Pearl cuddles Gem for hours when her back is hurting from scoliosis. Gem helps stitch Cleo back together when they fall apart once again. Cleo is there to hold Pearl when she is soso lost and scared and guilty. Pearl and Gem makes bracelets for eachother and Cleo when they are having a flare uo and need a little gift from her lovers to cheer them up. They all brush each others’ hair and do their nails over gossip at their little weekly sleepovers so they can all feel pretty and cared for. They all know each others’ favorite snacks and meals, warm and cold, so during any season, if someone needs a good meal, their lovers can make their favorite.

So of my headcanons is that when Cleo was alive they were a fairy (not a fae like Pearl, who is a changeling, they were more like a Disney fairy, connected to nature and nice magic and not really at all to the fae realm, which is considered a bit scarier or more morally dubious/evil as compared to fairies) and they had very delicate and insect-like wings. When they were resurrected as a rotted body, there were parts of them that were just already gone. There's of course the obvious gap in their abdomen and the lack of organs there, but their wings were also long gone. Not because they had actually rotted, but because they were fragile and brittle and whatever amount of time they spent in their grave had actually made them snap off. Theres just little nubs on their shoulder blades where they used to be. Cleo doesn't really remember being alive, so they don't actually remember that they were a fairy. As far as they know, the nubs are some consequence of being a zombie. They don't feel like anything so it doesn't bother her. They have a vague idea of how long they were alive, and sometimes stuff like "Oh yeah I think I've seen that before" but not actual fully fledged memories. The only reason she even knows her name is because it was on her grave stone.

Oo fun, I wonder if they ever have an instinctual draw to flying to some degree then. Like obviously they don’t remember being a fairy and therefore don’t remember flying but I wonder if it’s strangely familiar. A hazy connection that’s easier to shrug off than look closer at.

What if when they use their elytra, the muscles that used to connect to their wings tense on instinct? Some part of her remembers flight even if her brain doesn't.

Ooo yes, I would say it could almost feel like phantom limb but in this case it don’t think that’s true.

But bug/insect wings certainly work very differently from elytra (I imagine them more bird like) so the actual movement of flying feels odd to her. Dis-jointed.

I headcannon that Cleo doesn’t like flying with elytra all that much because their zombie-rottingness damages the elytra much faster than a non undead player would

Like once an elytra connects with a player it can take on features embedded in Alsace players code ans since Cleo is dead/decomposing the elytra does this too.
