#MyHappiness is My Family

Good Info Net’s challenge before is to talk about who/what makes us happy. The first thing that came to my mind is my family.

They were always the ones who’ve been with me through this rollercoaster ride-like life. They’ve been really supportive and loving no matter what. But most importantly, they serve as my reminder that God truly loves me and cares for me.

The best decision I’ve ever had in my life is accepting Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour. Being able to share the same faith as a family is such a huge blessing. Sunday is actually the best day of the week for me. We get to have family devotions through Zoom. IIt feels good how even with physical distance we are still able to meet and talk about life’s struggles and blessings

My family is #MyHappiness. Time spent with them is worth every second. I will always be grateful for having them. ❤️

I came from a family of musicians. We’ve shared a lot of intimate moments and bonding times by listening to our favorite songs, karaoke singing, and serving God through the Music Ministry.

Singing has always been my greatest passion and one of my lifelong dreams is to become a vocalist of a band. I’ve struggled with discouragements a lot of times. I grew up with no confidence. I felt that my voice wasn’t good enough and that I’d never deserve to reach that dream.

The undying support of my family and friends is what boosted my faith on my God-given talent.

My musical journey started when I sang with Koro del Pilar. It was then that I learned about the different vocal types and ranges. Our “Musikahan sa Tagum“ competition was one of the best experiences of my life. Fortunately, we won awards that made us all cry tears of joy.

My first time singing solo in public was when I was already serving in CCF’s Music Ministry. It always felt amazing whenever I sang for Him. I also learned more about music technicalities. I also met two of my bandmates in church.

Yes, I now belong to a band! I am the vocalist of Feeka. We listen to 60s pop, soul rock, 70s manila sound, pop jazz, 80s music new wave pop rock, and 90s alternative indie pop. Our goal is to make feel good music, to make more of a positive outlook in life and of course, to make people smile. We create our own music with a 60s pop, Manila sound and indie pop feel.

When You're Not Ready Yet

It was only recent when I felt life’s pressures regarding my career and my love life. I guess this is one of the triggering factors of my depression. I was utterly confused and it felt like I was slowly becoming worthless.

CAREER

I have a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and I am a registered Psychometrician. I quit work to start a business along with my cousin, with the financial help of both of our parents. Words could never describe how difficult it was, but we were sure that we were learning along the way. It was when the pandemic struck that everything felt apart. We had to close our business to save us from further losses and also to keep us and our staff safe. In conclusion, I have been unemployed for almost 7 months already. Everyday felt like a struggle to wake up as I felt like I was wasting my time but to be honest, I don’t have the motivation to do something about it.

LOVE LIFE

I’ve been praying for my “God’s best” ever since I was in elementary. I prayed for a love story beautifully written by God, a love story in His own time. The problem is, the world is full of temptations and deceit and so I had several failed relationships. When my heart has gotten tired and weary, I decided to take a rest and grow as an individual. But then in the middle of 2019, I had a chance to talk to an acquaintance again. It was an innocent friendship until romantic feelings came and grew. Everything was going well: we talk about God everyday, my family has approved of him, and he was all-in-all a very nice man. A day came when I asked myself, “Am I really ready for this?” I knew in my heart that I wasn’t.

I am currently in a season of waiting. I know full well that this is the time when God will mold me into a better version of myself. While I’m waiting, God is working.

To my dear readers who feel that they’re lost in the maze of this world, take your time. Don’t rush yourself. You’ll get to your destination. But a gentle reminder: do not be complacent. Pray that God will guide you all the way.

Pets Are Health And Mood Boosters

Owning and taking care of a puppy is actually such a huge step for me. I’ve never really taken cared of one as I was really scared I won’t be able to properly do so. When I was diagnosed with depression, my fear grew but I already said yes to my sister that I was going to adopt one of her dog’s puppies. And so the magic began… ✨

There are a lot of studies saying that pets are health and mood boosters and I’m just here to share some of them, which I also experienced firsthand.

1. ”Pets help you cope with depression, anxiety, and stress.”

Ever since my baby Night arrived home, my mental state has gotten better. It was like I was given a new purpose in life. I knew I had to take care of myself in order to take care of him well too.

2. “Pets improve your mood.”

He sometimes does lift my mood even in simple things. I really love it when he goes beside me when he has to sleep. I also like it when he licks my hand. Pets can really provide companionship.

3. “Pets add structure and routine to your day.”

Because of my insomnia, my daily routine has become totally messed up. Knowing that I have to feed him at a certain time, I get the motivation to jump out of bed and do it.

4. “Pets increase exercise.”

To be honest, playing around with him really helps me exercise. It’s really fun when he’s chasing me! It makes me want to run more and more.

5. “Pets boost vitality.”

Pets encourage playfulness, laughter, and exercise, which increases my energy and boost my immune system.

I know there are a lot of good reasons to own a pet but take note that it’s also a responsibility. If you think you are capable of owning one, what are you waiting for? 🐶

Connecting with Loved Ones During Covid-19 Through Games

Not being able to meet with some of our loved ones is one of the downsides of the pandemic. This tough time made it harder to connect and communicate with them.

I never thought I’d be thankful for games! My close friends asked me to download Call of Duty Mobile. I was hesitant at first because I’m the type of person who gets addicted to games easily but they insisted so we could play together. It was really fun! I even play with my siblings every once in a while. I also got the chance to reconnect with my college friends because of this game.

I also always saw Among Us memes on Facebook. The same friends asked me to download this and it’s really funny. I also play with my siblings and cousins every night. Wow, may paschedule pa kami. 😂

I know gaming has been put in a bad light and is discouraged by most of the parents, but if it helps you connect with your family and friends then, why not? We just have to be cautious and have proper time management.

Diagnosis: Depression

“Ang hirap umahon. Tulungan niyo ako…”

I guess Twitter has become my outlet. Again, that was one of my recent tweets.

I have been posting articles in Good Info Net for a few months already and if you’ve been reading them, you’d know that I haven’t been feeling okay for quite some time already.

To be completely honest, I have been concealing my sadness and dismay ever since this pandemic started. After all the hardships and struggles, our business eventually closed because of Covid-19. I kept on thinking of what I should do next, “Which career path should I take?” “Should I continue to pursue my blogging career?” “Do I have to study again?” I had a lot of questions in my mind and I was constantly pressuring myself and didn’t plan to stop until I find some answers.

After a series of more unfortunate events and anxiety attacks, I suddenly snapped. There came those days when waking up is already a struggle itself. Sometimes I wanted to binge-eat, sometimes I didn’t want to eat at all. My overthinking became worse and I started to doubt everything I believed in. There would also be days that I had no motivation and I would just stare into blank space without any content ideas entering my mind.

It was already a few weeks of feeling empty when my mom suggested that I seek the help of a psychiatrist. A few days before my birthday, I was finally diagnosed with Depression. It wasn’t much of a surprise but I was thankful to really confirm what I was really experiencing. I had to know in order to find solutions anyway. I have been taking meds ever since and I guess they’re helpful at some point.

If you were to ask me how I am today, I’d say, “I’m still not okay but I’ll get there.” For me, this is good news worth sharing here. I’d like to encourage everyone to seek professional help in times like this. Consult with a psychiatrist as soon as you can. Your mental health is important, it’s a priority to take care of it. We’re all in this together! You are not alone.

Rest

“Invest in rest.”

Because of the pandemic, everyone feels that they have to be productive all the time. There is that expectation to be constantly busy and that rest is something to be guilty of.

Because of the need to work in order to feed our families and pay our bills, there is always that question that lingers through our minds: “How do you expect me to rest?” Little did we know that resting can actually help in our productivity because it can recharge our ability to deal with everything. When you are rested, you will have the energy to enjoy the things that you have to do.

A Few Ways To Incorporate Rest Into Your Life: * Walk. Studies show that walking increases creative thinking by 40-60%, as compared to just sitting down. However, you must not forget to wear your mask and follow the curfew! * Talk to your friends. Whether it be in person or just over a video call, talking to our friends relieves stress. Socialization helps us shift into a restful state. * Take some time in the shower. Sometimes we may feel that taking a long bath is a waste of time, but just the feel of the flowing water can calm your nerves. * Have proper sleep. Fix your sleeping pattern and have enough hours of sleep.(I’m guilty of not following this! I really should.) * Do the things that you love. Never forget this part! If you love to draw even if your work is not related to it, draw. If you love singing or playing the guitar, take some time to do that, too. Just relax and find time to enjoy life.

Do not feel guilty, nervous, or uncomfortable in taking proper rest.

You need it. We all need it. Put rest in your list of priorities. Take a deep breath every once in a while. Learn to love yourself, too.

Real Friends Stay

Having an intimate and long-lasting friendship is now a rare find. People tend to have difficulties in finding real friends and when they do, it’s just right that they cherish them in their hearts.

When I was younger, I focused more on quantity than quality. I used to think that popularity is important and you are “cool” when you have a lot of so-called “friends”. With this mindset, I had a hard time differentiating my true friends from the fake ones.

When I was struggling with depression and anxiety, I was very hard to deal with. I was in my worst state as I witnessed my “friends” leaving one by one. It was really heartbreaking. I was in the verge of killing myself that I had the clearest vision of who really stayed in my life - my real friends. I truly felt their care and concern for me. They let me know that I am worth loving and staying for. They loved me for who I am but also helped me grow to become a better version of myself. 🥰

Real friends will stay. We all have our differences and when you learn to accept each other’s flaws, that’s where true friendship starts.

When you have already found your “small circle”, keep them. Appreciate them and never take them for granted. Be real and true as well. Be there for them through the good and the bad times as they also make time for you. Love and be loved. ❤️
