I always thought Nyarlarthotep is a cat person, and not a big fan of dogs-considering how dogs help human beings. His personality kind of reminds me of cat too. I know itās not so accurate (Since in Kadath cats help Carter and as you said, the rats in the walls exist) but you know itās a headcanon we can do whatever we want >:)
I also like to headcanon that he sometimes actually helps human in a good way. Of course, not in good intention. The result WILL cause chaos at the end, but in short term, it seems like itās beneficial to human kind. Plus, he thinks chaos caused by eternal life is boring. I mean, itās still a chaos but people fighting over something to live forever is just too bland to him (since this kind of chaos doesnāt follow with fear or anything like that except greed maybe).

Some Thoughts on Azathoth, Yogsothoth, and Nyarlathotep -- Lovecraft Headcanons
Personally, I am a massive fan of Azathoth as an element of the Cthulhu Mythos Canon. Subversion of mainstream religion can be very effective in establishing the Cosmicism of Cosmic Horror, and the Daemon Sultan is the pinnacle of that: the perfect subversion of a typical monotheistic God.
Instead of being all knowing, all powerful, and all good, the Nuclear Chaos is only the second of these. Which fits the philosophy of the setting! If morality and logic are fragile constructs erected within the broader universe, why would the ultimate force be bound by them? And cosmic indifference is vindicated by having a creator not only incapable of intelligent design but even the awareness that it creates. The cosmos failing to know itself.
To me, Azathoth will always be very abstract and beyond the physical, but there are some comprehensible features to his domain. For example, he has a court, composed of tenebrous ultimate gods. They play the warped music shaping the Blind Idiotās dreams, manifestations of the emergent patterns formed out of the chaos of being, aimless and unthinking but capable of producing intentional seeming structure. Well, most of them play this music. Then thereās the messenger.
Nyarlahotep is interesting among the Outer Gods (among all of Lovecraftās gods, really) because heās so unusually personable. Heās not just a mass of tentacles and incomprehensible whims. He acts like a person; he talks to other characters, he taunts, he gets frustrated about his schemes, he even wears fashionable suits! By all rights, he seems he should be more down to Earth and understandable as an entity, but instead, heās the Soul and Messenger of the Outer Gods. Whatās his deal? What does it mean to be the Soul of God Almighty?
How does one reconcile Nās human-like quirks with his larger eldritch nature? Shouldnāt a Mythos god be beyond petty mortal concerns? As I interpret it, he is beyond them; he just encompasses them. Nyarlahotep is a being with such depth and malleability that he can wear an entire psychology as part of his masks. The God with a Thousand Faces would seem just as Mi-go to a Mi-go, just as Elder Thing to an Elder Thing, just as Moon Beast to a Moon Beast as he seems anthropic to a human. More than just a body can shapeshift different forms.
Relating this back to Azathoth we can start to make some assumptions about his relationship to his master. Even if things like consciousness and sapient thought arenāt inherent to Azathothās larger being, they exist within the universe, and therefore are present in Godās mind. The players are a manifestation of emergent order. N, perhaps, emergent thought? The universe succeeding in perceiving itself.
Nyarlahotep is, of course, rather pitiable for the mind of an omnipotent god. He also clearly doesnāt like the master he is an extension of (āand in contempt, he struck his masterās headā ā Fungi from Yuggoth), and lacks much control over his action. There is an analytical framework I think could be enlightening to glance at here, but it will require a third player.
Yogsothoth is often manifested as a congeries of nine-dimensional globes, but to describe him as truly possessing any dimensions at all would be inaccurate. Instead, Yogsothoth encompasses all dimensions, coterminous with both time and space, omniscient and omnipresent (while Azathoth is only the latter). Many people like to consider Through the Gates of the Silver Key non-canon (which is understandable) but it further presents interesting notions of all conscious experience being essentially pinched off fragments of Yogsothoth, all thought encompassed in this being. The universeās perception itself.
If willing to indulge a dated psychological model as a literary tool, one might also suggest considering the Ego, Superego, and Id. Azathoth, the Id, is the basis of the mind, and lacks apprehension of reality or any self restraint. To call it a lizard brain is charitable. As the Ego, Yogsothoth perceives the self and reality, and mediates to some degree the interaction between the emotional and the pragmatic (by being the gate, the way, and the key). Finally, Nyarlahotep is the Superego, internalizing morality as a concept to interact with and attempting to exert his will and control over chaos.
In a healthy mind, the Id is managed by the realism of the Ego and the propriety of the Superego. Were the Mythos an ordered cosmos, this would be the case, with a rational Godhead led by Nyarlahotep steering some divine plan. But the Mythos is not ordered; it is chaotic and random. Yogsothoth barely makes an effort to interact with reality, and Nyarlahotep is impotent to restrain the Id. He may raise weedy spires of gold, but Azathoth will only crush what he chanced to mold in play. Unmanaged by perception or rationality, God reminds a blind idiot.
If youāre the universal mind, Cosmic Horror is still Psychological.
-Sleeps all the freaking time, as we know, and can fall asleep anywhere, anytime, even standing up. You kinda envy him for that.
-Makes you cuddle with him (unless something important is happening or others are around) because it apparently makes him relaxed.
-His favorite nicknames for you are "my dream" and "darling".
-Lets you do his hair and makeup, though this is mostly because he's too tired and/or lazy to do it himself.
-It's actually better if you do it because one time, he fell asleep while putting on his lipstick and almost swallowed it.
-Whenever he's not committing crimes, he likes following you all over the place, even if he isn't awake most of the time. Just don't take him to any overcrowded areas or you might lose him.
-He has the prettiest eyes and knows it, so when you guys are relaxing together, you'll often catch him staring at you.
-You're very likely to get used as a pillow, which is nice, especially in cold weather, but can also get really hot, stuffy, and generally uncomfortable depending on the temperature.
-Occasionally gets nightmares and wakes up sobbing, so you'll need to comfort him. Poor thing will be a shaking, whimpering mess, it's enough to make you sad just looking at him.
-Actually has great taste in music and movies, and enjoys binge watching TV with you whenever you both have the time.
-Is very weak to jumpscares, as ridiculous as that sounds. If you do something as simple as hiding in the closet and jumping out when he walks in, he'll freak the hell out and refuse to speak to you for the rest of the night.
-Has a skincare routine. Yes, he gatekeeps, but he might let you in on it if you ask.

"Sorry you had to spend your free day on this," - you still feel awkward when your date unexpectedly turns into work.
"Donāt worry, starlight, we still have a whole night ahead of us."

Racer ā Acts of Service
Heās simply one of those people you donāt need to ask twice - sometimes you donāt even need to ask at all.
"Already done" - this phrase already haunts your nightmares, but convincing him to leave you even a few chores is simply impossible.
Heās clearly used to doing everything quickly and immediately, never putting things off until tomorrowāeven if they arenāt his tasks, but yours.
Rest assured, heāll spoil you.
Angel ā Gift-Giving
The angelic maiden demands a lot of attention for herself but would never deprive you of it.
"Do you like it?" - Her voice was laced with artificial disinterest. - "I just thought this color would suit your eyes, thatās all."
In your hand was a small pendant with a sparkling stone in the center, which you hurried to put around your neck before giving your beloved a kiss.
"Thank you, Sorano, thatās really sweet," - you had no idea this would be the beginning of the end.
Not all gifts will be obvious. Sometimes sheāll just drag you around shops to pick out matching outfits for different occasions, but sheāll rarely let you pay. Sheāll buy you treats or bring you interesting things from missions, handing them over to you "for safekeeping."
But donāt worry - she wonāt let you stay in debt. Sheāll definitely get her share of your love.
Cobra ā Physical Touch
He grew accustomed to it from an early age, when his skin was constantly brushed by smooth snake scales, enveloping him with their steady presence. Losing that sensation hit him, perhaps, too hard. Now itās a long process - he might circle around you for ages, avoiding excessive physical contact even after youāve become a couple.
He needs to weigh all the risks: how much it will hurt to lose this feeling of stable closeness again, how ready he is to trust you and your hands. One day, heāll finally make a decision.
"Is everything okay?" - Your voice sounds uncertain when your touch-averse boyfriend suddenly climbs under your blanket, hurriedly pulling you into an embrace and resting his head on your stomach.
An approving hum doesnāt give you the answers you need, and you just bite your lower lip, not quite sure whatās expected of you in such a situation. Especially since you can still feel how tense his body is, as if heās just waiting for you to push him away.
But instead, you place a hand on the back of his head. A little uncertainly and too carefully, you begin to stroke his hair, testing. Like this? And judging by the relieved sigh that escapes his lips, yesāexactly like this.

Hoteye ā Words of Affirmation
Rest assured, he wonāt miss a single opportunity to tell you how wonderful and loved you are. A constant stream of compliments and admiration will be as much a part of your relationship as his frequent musings about love.
"Darling, you look absolutely irresistible today!" - and it doesnāt matter at all that youāve just been helping him repot plants and all your clothes are stained with dusty soil.
"Oh, my love, Iām so grateful to you! Youāre the best thing thatās ever happened to me!" - and thatās just for making him tea.
"I love you" - something you hear very often and still cherish, because Richard always pours all his feelings into these words: just as loud and slightly annoying, but warming you up every time.
He wonāt demand a response from you, but his lovesick smile in return for your attention is worth it.

ā Does it to distract you from something he doesnāt want you to see, making it obvious. Also, does it playfully when he wants to get your attention. He would enjoy stealing kisses from you and running off like an idiot. He would be delighted if you steal a kiss back when you can, even better if you catch him off guard.
Gray
ā Does it to tease you/catch you off guard. He just swoops in and catches your lips in a kiss before walking away like nothing happened. He takes some pride in making you flustered when he gives you kisses, and then making you melt for him. Heās hard to catch off guard sometimes but when heās focused on somethingāitās very easy. You either make him confused and embarrassed or confused and flustered, but also pretending to not like it.
Gajeel
āOnly to tease you. He enjoys teasing his lover endlessly and wouldnāt shut up about how embarrassed you get when he steals some kisses from you. Instead of walking away, he does it again and again. Making each kiss gradually deeper and then pulls away to leave you a blushing mess. Stealing kisses from him arenāt easy, he can feel it. He immediately snaps his head toward you every time you attempt it. But, you did manage to catch him off guard, at least twice. He blushes but looks away from your face just in time.
Laxus
āSteals kisses to tease you as well, but also a way to tell you that he loves you without having to say it. He doesnāt say it often and feels as if this is a good way to get his point across by just catching you off guard. Kisses you roughly before pulling away to go do something. He just goes back to neutral, knowing that he just rocked your world. He doesnāt react when you steal a kiss, but just know that in the inside heās fan-girling over a kiss.
Macbeth
āSteals a kiss when youāre still awake for him. He feels as if this is the best time because you are usually in a drowsy state at that time and if notāhe still manages to catch you off guard. He smirks when you become flustered and stutter over your words/shyly look away. Just admits how vulnerable you get over kisses for him. Itās a bit hard to steal a kiss from him, he immediately turns his head to your direction when you try to do it, and he gives you what you desire. Try it when heās distracted and heāll be surprised that you managed to catch him in that state.
Freed
āFreed does it when youāre deep in your thoughts, in order to catch your undivided attention. He finds it cute when you shyly turn away from him and try to continue thinking. Freed knows you canāt after he stole a kiss but he enjoyed it so he doesnāt feel anywhere near bad. Heās focused, and he always attentive to his surroundingsā¦ itās impossible to catch him off guard. He does become relaxed when in your shared bedroom, so itās easier to steal a kiss from him that way.
Sting
āSting most likely does it for attention, but he also wants to tease you about it. He kisses your cheek and then when you turn your head to him, he steals a kiss. He nuzzles into your cheek after said action as well and asks you how your day went. He does find it adorable how embarrassed you get over a simple kiss and would try to make you even more flustered as he teases you over it. When you try to steal a kiss, it isnāt as difficult as you think. Catching Sting off guard is pretty easy when heās deep in thought, eating, or just relaxing. He smiles when you steal a kiss though.
Erik
āCalls you a cutie after he steals a kiss. He only does it when he knows heās done something wrong and knows youāre mad at him or to simply bother you. He likes to see you get worked up and then he calms you down with a simple kiss. The way he affects your body is amazing to him. If he catches you in the act of trying to steal a kiss, he makes you beg for it. However, if you do itās successfullyāexpect an annoyed-flustered Erik.

ā Lets out a dramatic scream of pain. Even though, you know it did not hurt that much. āIt was an accident, Sorry, Natsu.ā He says heāll forgive you if you give him cuddles and kisses. Reject him and heāll pout for a good while, heāll soon forget about it but remember it later for some unknown reason.
[Erza]
ā you were talking to her about something and making hand movements to describe it. Erza is very aware of every movement so she caught your hand as soon as you moved it close to her face. Almost accidentally slapping her, you quickly apologized. Erza kisses you, and says itās all right. Comment on her good reflexes though.
[Freed]
ā you turned around very quickly and ended up slapping your boyfriend in the process. Surprisingly, heās isnāt stunned. You do quickly apologize which he does accept but Freed doesnāt have much of a reaction. He says he originally came to ask you what your plans were for the day? He wasnāt expecting to get slapped.
[Macbeth]
ā You were moving around in your sleep at night and he was watching you. You turned over and slapped him. Your hand slid down his face as wellāmaking this moment a little more dramatic. Macbeth wakes you up of course with little to no hesitation. You apologize when he explains to you what you have done. After that, he makes you cuddle him in your sleep.
[Sting]
ā You slapped him while talking. He was very engaged in the conversation and you just slapped him. Gives you the pouty face because that actually hurt but goes back to normal when you apologize and offer cuddles. It doesn't take much effort to make it up to him.
[Rouge]
ā You slapped him when you yanked something too hard - he was in the way. He doesn't say anything when you immediately apologize but he does accept it with a nod of his head. He continues with his day like nothing happened.
[Laxus]
ā BABE! He told you to slap him. Shocker. Despite that he makes you apologize to him and you refuse. He asked for it, he got it.

ā Was about to snatch his hand away until he realized how invested you looked while doing this. Youāll catch him staring and heāll look away quick. He oddly finds himself staring at your hands all day after it. Makes an excuse on why you two should hold hands, just so he can compare yours with his.

ā Secretly gushes over how cute you look as you compare how big Ezraās hands are to your small ones. When she get caught gushing, she doesnāt make any excuse for it. Instead, she admits how small your hands are to everyone elseās and even pointing at Natsuās hands as an example. She does enjoy this sweet gesture though.
Lucy
ā Started it. Itās somewhat of a ritual between you two and you canāt help but compare your hands out of complete interest. You normally run your fingers over her tattoo and she laughs as you do, āit ticklesā. Lucy compares your hands as a sign of comfort. It shows that you two will always stick together in times of need.
Lyon
ā Watches in complete interest most of time when you do it. He usually just thinks that you want to hold his hand but when he sees you putting your hand against his, he certainly wants to know what youāre doing. At first thinks itās some sort of magic, but when he realizes that youāre comparing. He just canāt take his eyes off your actions from then on.
Freed
ā Fascination. He even measured how much shorter/taller your hand is than his. He also takes note that you admire his hands for some reason such as when heās doing magic or just making hand gestures. He does compare your hands from time to time and youāll find him completely focused on only that and nothing else.
Macbeth
ā Somewhat mean about it. He doesnāt really like being touched and he already knows that he is a lot bigger than you. He finds a bit weird but then eventually warms up to it as he canāt help but do it sometimes too. Especially while you are asleep. Itās something that crosses his mind often during late nights. He becomes more open to it and stops swatting your hands away after some time.

macbeth walks beside you in silence, his hands behind his back, his purple cloak swaying with the breeze.
he stops near an old tree and sits on the grass, crossing his legs with an almost dramatic calm.
he makes a subtle gesture with his hand, a silent invitation for you to sit beside him.
without saying anything, you share the moment: the gentle wind, the whisper of the leaves, the small distance between you. macbeth closes his eyes, tilting his head slightly as if listening to something secret.
when you finally relax your body against the tree trunk, you feel his gaze settle on you; calm, deep, studying your expressions with that quiet curiosity of his.
then, in a soft murmur, he breaks the silence:

he extends his hand, slowly, palm facing up, offering without any pressure. when you place your hand on his, macbeth smilesā almost imperceptible, but soft as silk.

When heās Jealous, he tends to give you the pouty face. Hoping that youāll pay more attention to him. He also tends to be more touchy freely towards you and would do it in front of whoever he was jealous of. When you poke him and try to make him admit that he was jealous, he outright refuses before blurting it out.
Gray
When heās jealous, he looks away hoping to get the thought out of his head. But heāll wear the most annoyed face all day long. Until you get the hint, heāll look more annoyed by the second. When you poke him saying that he was jealous, heāll never admit to that.
Lucy
When sheās jealous, sheāll grow hotheaded not at you exactly. She probably wonāt speak to you for hours or diss every conversation. She doesnāt want to take anything out on you. When you poke her and say that sheās jealous, sheāll deny the truth for a while and admit it later.
Erza
When sheās jealous, sheāll clench her jaw and look away in slight embarrassment. Although, Erza trusts you enough - she doesnāt trust that person. Sheāll act like everything is normal though, probably gives the person a look. If you find out, sheās slightly embarrassed. When you poke her about it, sheāll admit it rather quickly.
Wendy
When sheās jealous, she tends to be more anxious or rushy with people. Just to talk to you or to get your attention. You can tell from the way that sheās talking or from the way she bounces on the toes of her feet thatās she jealous or anxious. When you poke her about it, she blurts it out and then turns a crimson color.
Juvia
When sheās jealous, itās pretty obvious fo her part. Itās pretty cute too because she makes her jealous known for you. And makes it clear that she wants that person to stay away from you. When you poke her about it, sheās pretty open to it but also blushing like crazy.
Lyon
When heās jealous, he tends to be more quiet. Slowly studying the situation, he wonāt say anything to you about it though. He wouldnāt want you to find out for that matter. When you do find out though, he wonāt answer your question about him being jealous. Nor will he admit to it.
Gajeel
When heās jealous, heās more observing than ever. He folds his arms across his chest and looks the other direction. Or heāll stare the person down until you recognize him. When you poke him about being jealous, heās quick to snap back with a remark.
Macbeth
When heās jealous, he doesnāt seem to care. Heāll just give the person a nightmare so theyāll stay away. Though, he does seem a little more annoyed with people. When you poke him about being jealous, heāll just ignore you.
Laxus
When heās jealous, he tends to be a little colder towards everyone especially you. No, he doesnāt mean it but he canāt help but come off that way. Heāll end conversations pretty quickly with you until you figure out why heās acting this way. When you find out and poke him about it, he becomes annoyed, wishing you didnāt find out.
Freed
When heās jealous, heās just really calm about it on the outside but in the inside heās more annoyed than ever. He wonāt say anything to you or make himself sound off or weird in any sort of way. No, he does not want you to find out..ever. Heāll give the person though the coldest look before looking away. When you do find out, he wonāt deny it but wonāt answer.
Mirajane
When sheās jealous, sheāll typically frown a lot. Sheāll try to hide it but it usually doesnāt work because sheās doing it so often around you. So when you do find out, sheās more embarrassed than ever. Sheāll try to apologize for feeling that way though but she couldnāt help it.

She can easily admit her wrong doings, but would expect you to do the same. When you start talking to her again, sheās excited to have you back.
Lucy
ā Her smile fades when she realizes that you arenāt talking to her. Sheāll constantly think about you during missions or even afternoons by herself. Even though you arenāt talking to her, she continues to talk to you. When you did start talking to her once again, she was so happy to fill you in on her daily activities.
Gajeel
ā Another stubborn one, and he wonāt give in unless it is for a good reason. His pettiness knows no bounds even when it comes to his lover. But, fortunately, he has that soft side to him. He apologizes and hopes the problem can be resolved. When you start talking to him again, heās happy to hear your voice again and forgets all about the problem.
Sting
ā Thinks this is a joke when you stop talking to him, but when he realizes that you are really mad, he begins to backtrack with his recent actions. Once he finds out the problem, he immediately apologizes, hoping this would be over as soon as possible. When you start talking to him again, heās ecstatic to hear that pretty voice directed at him.
Rogue
ā Gives you space and plenty of time. You might have to confront him on this one. He doesnāt know how to react when you stop talking to him. Though, once you confront him in a head-on conversation, he apologizes for whatever he said or did that has made you upset. Wants to cuddle as a celebration.
Laxus
ā refuses to apologize because he believes he wasnāt in the wrong. He tries to give you the silent treatment before you could do it to him, but you win in that race. Weeks later, he accepts that he was wrong and insists on making up with you.
