the difference between western and vedic astrology

hey guys, as someone who has studied both, this is what i have noticed while reading charts the way i have been reading them:

western

tropical (signs begin according to when spring begins)

includes interceptions, houses can start with one sign and have a planet in that same house but a different sign

focuses more on your personality

ascendant is more accurate to your appearance

ic/midheaven has slightly more emphasis

vedic

sidereal (signs begin according to fixed stars in the sky)

whole sign equal house system (no interceptions, at least the way i studied it), planets in that house are in one sign

focuses more on predictions about what has already happened in your life and what is going to happen in the future

ascendant is much more important, it basically controls your whole life

karmic debts are much more heavily emphasized, especially with the addition of the d9 and d10 charts (marriage and career)

past lives are more heavily emphasized

can predict more things around sicknesses*

aspects are much more complicated, most planets have their own special type of aspects and houses have their own aspects as well

gets more specific with nakshatras - not only will it tell you you’re an aries but also what type of aries you are (helps a lot when looking at venus and mars with matchmaking/love advice)
